It will be coming to Viu. It was originally going to come out on Paramount+ but CJ ENM did not renew their licensing deal with Paramount+ and they said they would decide on a case-by-case basis if any more shows would be released on Paramount+ or if they would go to a different platform. Since they've already licensed to Viu, I doubt it's going to Netflix. So I'm hoping it will go to Viki, because even if Paramount+ releases it, they won't do so until 2 months after the show finishes airing in Korea (like they did with Pyramid Game).
Breaking a 13 episode season into two seasons. 👀 I bet that S3 will be released after June 1, 2025 so that Squid Game S2 will qualify for the 2025 Emmy Awards and Squid Game S3 will qualify for the 2026 Emmy Awards. Netflix will be milking this for all the publicity they can get.
Also, I was chuckling to myself watching the date reveal teaser trailer featuring running because of course Im Siwan would absolutely sign up for yet another drama with running in it! 😆
Hmm. The screen shot only says "August Release" (8월 공개) but their tweets say "August 30" (8월 30일) and "August 29" (8월 29일). I have no idea where they got the 29/30 dates from because it's not in the text. I even looked for the numbers written out in Korean.
This is the future for all shows. In Korea, they call it The Netflix Effect. More money is being spent for the production value (cameras, lighting, set design, costumes, locations, etc) but the shows are all becoming miniseries.

It was going to be released on Paramount+ but due to some licensing issues it's uncertain if it will still go to that platform or end up going to a different major platform. However, I do expect it to be released on Viu.
Any news if this is gonna be beginning of Sept or end of it?
They only said it will now air in the Fall so anytime from September through November. The "Sep, 2024 - ?" date in the Airs section in the Details is just a placeholder until we have a start date.
