Questions for those who have seen Taiwanese version of this drama before watching the Korean remake and enjoyed…
The main difference for me is that the Korean version puts a very tight focus on the main couple and underdevelops the second leads which means major plot developments that take place later in the story don't have the same emotional impact. Plotwise there aren't major differences but there are very big differences in character development. Also the male leads are very different. For example, in SD1D the ML is failing all his classes and he's goofy but loveable. But in ATCY he's at the head of his class and basically perfect. IMO this kind of messes with his character arc because part of what makes the original poignant is that the ML suffers a lot of losses and ends up scarred and grieving and the contrast between the boy and the man is a gut punch.
I'm not someone who thinks the original is perfect but there's definitely something missing in this adaptation.…
A lot of the charm of the original isn't just the romance, it's watching the friendship develop between the trio and that's missing from this adaptation. You really feel it in the 2ML's arc because we don't get attached enough to him for later plot developments to have an emotional impact
Hmm... I get the impression that many of you guys think TopMew is boring and has no plot but I can't be the only…
Mew has his fingers crossed on the cast poster so I'm still hoping there's something shady going on there but otherwise I think their scenes are boring. They are the weakest cast members by a lot.
I enjoyed this one but one thing I don't like about this is the song. Last Dance was so impactful in the og version…
I loved Last Dance but I think Gather my Tears is memorable for people in Korea because the singer, Seo Ji Won, killed himself shortly before the song was released when he was only 19 years old. So thematically it's quite significant to the plot. I think it's a good choice even though musically it's not as strong as Last Dance.
It's excellent, top notch production values as well.
I've seen the original and I'm rewatching it side-by-side with the remake. There are some changes to the plot that make the time travel easier to understand in the Korean version but otherwise I don't think it matches the original. Jeon Yeo Been is miscast in my opinion. She doesn't do a good job of portraying the grief of the present day FL or the despair/desperation of the 90s FL. The Korean version is also three hours shorter and because of that we don't get enough time developing the friendship between the three leads before the tragedies start. The production values are higher but the OST is nowhere near as good. I think if you aren't familiar with the original you'd enjoy this version but if you love the original this one won't hit your emotions in the same way.
gay yeonjun finally holding his crush’s hand and then immediately getting into a car crash is a hate crime….they…
I wish we had at least a brief glimpse of them together after the time loop is broken so we can see them happy together. The whole storyline is creepy anyway because of a straight man taking over a gay man's body.
1. Does this version follow the Original Version side-by-side based on plotline?and I'm thinking of seeing this…
I'm watching side-by-side and it's a very interesting experience. The remake is 3 hours shorter than the original and they made some changes to the plot to make the time travel easier to follow. But they also cut down on the time you spend with the FL when she's grieving and the development of the trio of friends in the 90s and I think that's not a good thing. It makes you less emotionally invested in the leads. Also IMO the actors were stronger in the original, especially the FL. Anyway, yes to side-by-side viewing if you have the time.
i saw some ppl being xenophobic and calling og actors ugly 💀💀that's their reason for remake being supreme.…
If Alice was Korean she'd be forced to have a nose job when that's one of the things that makes her face uniquely beautiful. Korean beauty standards are oppressive.
I tried to give the Korean version a fair chance but I think the three main leads are miscast so I started rewatching the original and I was reminded of how good Alice Ko, Greg Hsu and Patrick Shih are. Alice does a phenomenal job of making you feel Huang Yu Xuan's grief and Chen Yun Ru's despair. She also has wonderful chemistry with both ML's. Greg captures his character's journey from an immature boy to a scarred man desperate to prevent two tragedies. And Patrick's Mo Jun Jie is quietly heartbreaking as the boy who finds a kindred spirit in a girl who is hard to love.
In the Korean version, Jeon Yeo Been is just too harsh and cold to make you feel anything. Ahn Bo Young is fine but I dislike the 2ML who plays the character as someone who is shy and insecure, which was not true of the 2ML in the original.
This version lacks the charm of the original one, and frankly most of the actors don't suite their roles very…
"The Kdrama is nice, but it's like a pretty person after so many plastic surgeries, while the original is more like a beautiful stunning natural beauty who mesmerize others easily." << Excellent analogy and I agree.
Boston said Mew and Ray screwed and Ray didn't deny it so what is the deal? I'm surprised more people here aren't talking about that. It would mean Mew was lying to Top about giving up his virginity to him.
I am with you. It's not just flashbacks but flashbacks within flashback with constant timeskips in eps 12 and…
I miss the kids too but I hate saying it because people swoop in to say WELL WHY DON'T YOU GO WATCH A TEEN ROMANCE which isn't the point. Eps 1-7 were about two people who are blessed and cursed to be special and who find friendship and acceptance in each other while facing existential threats to themselves and their families. Then we got yanked away from those people for 6 episodes which honestly could've been condensed into half the length without losing anything important.
Same here and I saw a production still of Bongseok and he's going to lose weight which makes me really sad. A huge part of his charm was his size, he was a big cuddly loving teddy bear who could fly.
I CANNNNT BELIEVE HOW LONG THIS FLASHBACK IS -___- I'm not really that invested in their history because we viewers…
I am with you. It's not just flashbacks but flashbacks within flashback with constant timeskips in eps 12 and 13 in particular. And we didn't need things repeated over and over, especially when it takes time away from developing the friendship between the MLs and explaining more about the agency and the missions and how people got identified and recruited.
In the Korean version, Jeon Yeo Been is just too harsh and cold to make you feel anything. Ahn Bo Young is fine but I dislike the 2ML who plays the character as someone who is shy and insecure, which was not true of the 2ML in the original.
