In the show she is drugged to where she can't speak and starts hallucinating. In her drugged state of mind she stabs the ML and thinks that she killed him in front of the 10000 soldiers and that's where her hair turns white. I honestly don't know why people love the general so much. I didn't like him or the ML, I only liked Rong Qi.

This is my favorite youth rom com of 2019, I liked it much better than PYHOMS and Le Coup de Foudre. I really recommend it. Especially if you've seen With You and My Huckleberry Friends, finally being able to see Luo Zhi and Sheng Huai Nan's full love story was so heartwarming. The friendships were really beautiful too, I loved it.

I went back on my word and read the novel. It was rad. I liked it a lot more than the drama actually. The characters are so well fleshed out. I especially loved the friendship between Xiao Ce (Li Ce in the novel) and Chu Qiao. Their parts were my favorite. The novel's wayyy more gritty and dark than the show but I loved it, highly recommend if you guys want to find out what happens after the show ends.

I totally see where you're coming from. Young actors have been dominating the scene lately. Especially with the sheer amount of idol dramas coming out of China most faces we see are the young ones. I really appreciate your response, happy watching to you as well! :)

I definitely agree. A lot of people are complaining about Chang Chen's age and I am not about it. People also gave Mark Chao a lot of shit about how he wasn't handsome enough for his role in Eternal Love before it blew up. Liu Tao, Zhou Xun, and Joe Chen have all been heavily scrutinized for roles they've taken on purely based on their ages despite the fact that they're wonderful actresses. Drama audiences are just way too superficial.

Peng Xiao Ran, Zhao Li Ying, Yang Mi, Tang Yan, Ariel Lin, Angelababy, Liu Shi Shi are all 30 or close to it. Chen Kun, Feng Shao Feng, Wallace Chung, Wu Vaness, Huo Jian Hua are all 40 or close to it. Lol it's super common for people these ages to play these types of characters

I always recommend the Story of Ming Lan. It's much lighter than a lot of other historicals as it's not centered around a royal family but a normal scholarly family during the Song dynasty. It's super realistic and the most well made drama I've seen thus far.

Princess Agents and Eternal Love are also good starter historicals. Princess Agents for a more physically badass heroine and Eternal Love/Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms if you want a fluffier fantasy romance tale. (Eternal Love that I'm recommending is a different series though than the one the comment above mentioned, it just has the same name).

I'd say keep going. I was drawn in right away but other people I know it took a while for them to warm up to it before they fell in love with it. Both of the leads change a lot throughout the course of the show and don't reveal things about themselves on purpose until later on. I personally really liked that this show was darker and wasn't super heavily filtered like all of the idol dramas we keep seeing, it made it look more real and like the people were people instead of dolls with translucent skin.

I would not recommend skipping through any parts, you'll miss crucial information as I felt not a scene of this show was filler. I also wouldn't go into it expecting any heavy romance until about the halfway point. This show is a realistic slow-burn story but the payoff is so satisfying, stick with it at least until Ming Lan starts to show how intelligent she is. If you still don't like it by then it just may not be your cup of tea. I know 73 episodes seems super daunting when you're at the beginning but it really does keep getting better as it goes on.

Same here, I feel like there really isn't another show out there that comes close to Ming Lan. I didn't hate Flame's Daughter but I wished Ru Ge was more headstrong, also I definitely got on the wrong ship haha.

I loved Ming Lan, it's my favorite drama I've seen so far. Wasn't so much a fan of Flame's Daughter.

It's not really like those other shows at all other than the fact that it's a historical with a smart FL. I don't personally recommend it. I started watching it about four months ago and I'm just now on episode 32 and it's been a struggle with quite a bit of skipping. The chemistry isn't there for me and the plot's just kind of...dumb lol. The FL is adorable and really likable but she's pretty much the only reason I'm going to finish it. Others do like it though, it has an 8.2 rating so you may too. But from what I've seen so far I'd probably give it like a 6.

You cannot say with absolute certainty that it isn't natural. Some people's bodies change over time. If she has an eating disorder, you commenting about how skeletal she looks, how the male lead has to work harder because of her appearance, and how unattractive she is is not constructive whatsoever. I hate when people are clearly just trying to be dicks in their original comment and then try to turn it around into "concern".

Wow. Hateful much? Hers could be an eating disorder or it could be natural but no matter what it's not your place to judge. If your criticism of her is her acting, I won't fault you. But to go off on the poor girl's appearance is so low. Does it make you feel better about yourself to put down others? Tell me that is attractive.

Her thinness could be a health issue but it could also be natural. Either way it's no one's place to judge. It's so fucked up to say she's not allowed to work because of her body. It's not her responsibility to make sure young women don't try to look like her. I understand you not liking her acting (though to say she ruined Love 020 is a stretch. The show's writing ruined that show) but your first point you're trying to make is ridiculous.

Omg you should definitely give c dramas a try! I started with k dramas originally but now I pretty much only watch chinese dramas.

He's really great in the Battle of Changsha. The character is a stark contrast to the one in The Brightest Star in the Sky.

I think it is definitely worth watching. It's a realistic slow burn story so if you need everything to be fast paced and have a lot of action this won't be for you. But if you want a historical drama with talented veteran actors, witty dialogue, and realistic sets and storyline then you'll love it. One of the few dramas I think that actually deserves its 8.9 rating.
