Then don't watch it. We're not in the 2000s anymore, rom-coms with 1-dimensional FLs characters aren't a trend…
So one-dimensional FLs are a k-drama thing? K-dramas SHOULDN'T have fleshed out female characters, you admit? Even c-dramas, j-dramas, and anime have better written female characters from the 90s, and those certainly aren't Western, unless I missed something. Old American shows had 1-dimensional female characters, and that also changed.
There are also plenty of older k-dramas with non 1-dimensional FLs (villainous protagonists, grey/complex protagonists, strong ones, smart ones, etc...)
Solid daily so far. It's more like a slice-of-life drama, which I don't mind. Yes the characters are kinda basic, but it's an easy watch so far. Eun-Ae is painfully naive, but I'm wondering who her real parents are? And screw that scummy "boyfriend" of hers! I hope the grandfather survives, but I doubt it (especially with his terminal cancer.) This is pretty serious for a KBS1 daily lol
The acting is fine, but I worry that Uhm Hyun-Kyung is being typecasted...
YJH has almost never played goofy best friends lol (at least not in recent years...)
Yeah, he used to play supporting roles in the past, also, what does his appearance have to do with his performance? Weird thing to point out, but okay... π Return, Penthouse, Shooting Stars, and Escape of the Seven all had him in lead roles. Penthouse and Return especially, which he won awards for (from my memory.)
I like Uhm Hyun-Kyung too but a lot of her roles feel similar nowadays. I hope she's not being typecasted, she's very talented. Mostly KBS1 daily dramas are romance-centered these days, but MBC's First Man has a lot of romance in it. So far I like Our Happy Days. Something easy to watch. It's not ridiculously goofy like most KBS1 dailies are, it's... balanced? Like a slice-of-life drama?
No no she's not the villain in Empress ki but it's a brilliant from poor weak slave to queen in power story. She…
I absolutely love Lee Yu-Ri and her dramas! I haven't watched Twinkle Twinkle or Spring Turns To Spring, but I've watched the others. The Promise is one of my favorite daily dramas ever.
I highly recommend Shin Eun-Kyung and Jang Seo-Hee. Jang Seo-Hee mostly does makjang/revenge dramas, but she can be so intense. She's done some comedy too, though. Shin Eun-Kyung is extremely versatile, and if you like Go Hyun-Jung, you'd love her too. Eun-Kyung has done so many dramas: comedy, melodrama, thriller, romance, action (she was the MC in the movie My Wife Is A Gangster), historical... you name it.
Eugene might be a little hard to get used to, since she was an idol (a member of SES) before she became an actress, but she's proved her talent and grown a lot. Played her first villain role in First Lady. Soo-Ae is... atypical? She doesn't act often, but when she does, she plays the hell out of her role. Ju Da-Hae from Queen of Ambition still gives me the chills.
Other favorites of mine: Choi Myung-Gil, Lee Il-Hwa, Chae Shi-Ra, Na Young-Hee, Lee Seung-Yeon, Lee So-Yeon, Park Ha-Na (she was in The Promise, plus Empress Ki apparently) and MANY more...
I'm very confused and I don't watch c-dramas, but I do think that harmful beauty standards in the entertainment industry need to be phased out (especially when it comes to women.) Don't jump me for saying this... π
Something's telling me that the tone might shift halfway through the drama, maybe I'll come back if it does. Say, if the writer changes... π
I hope they don't turn Hyun-Jun into a villain. Too cliche. Dan-Hee MIGHT find out that Chloe is Jin-Ju but work with her anyway, since they have the same goal. They're supposed to be partners, right? Kudos to the writer for subverting that forced marriage for business shares trope, at least. π
Would have wished people would give their attention to dramas like this and bring about some change in the real…
Laziest shit ever. If they're not creative, they could just admit that instead of using AI to write for them. Or come up with ideas on their own. Goodness... -_-

Ha Ji-Won and Go Hyun-Jung are becoming my new favorite actresses so far. I also love Eugene, Shin Eun-Kyung, Lee Yu-Ri, Jang Seo-Hee, and Soo-Ae... and more (especially veteran actresses!)
There are also plenty of older k-dramas with non 1-dimensional FLs (villainous protagonists, grey/complex protagonists, strong ones, smart ones, etc...)
