From Tteokbokki is Terrible to devouring huge servings of it,Confession of "liking Tteokbokki" Romance is Romancing - and it was worth the wait! It was always there, just needed in our faces and sealed with a 😘 So, Can't Wait for the Finale Week for it all to unfold. While I can't wait for it I will also miss this drama - these past weeks it has become such a comfort watch!
Off Topic: Also now that Rowoon and Cha Eun Woo announced their military enlistment + given how 2025 has been crazy busy for Lee Jun Young, I am getting a feeling he might announce his own soon??
P.S. Also still wondering why is this drama rated 7.8 😑😑😑😑😑 WHAT THE ERROR? Should be at least 8, if not 10 - please give this drama a chance!
I am still debating on whether to watch it or not. The summary was not that attractive to me, but I wanted to give it a try for the ML - cause cmon, Kang Haneul - and the rating being 8+.
I was skeptical of the FL cause while I have seen her only in the Frog, I was not convinced with her acting as such. And now reading all the comments - I am doubtful again.
Given it is 10 eps, is it worth starting/watching?

Ep 9 - Damn this is how you do wonderful stories, use age-old formula of ex-GF in a new fresh way! Anyone wondering…
Many are wondering why the ex-girlfriend Kang Sol was introduced so briefly only to be killed off - as we understood in end of Ep 9 and by Ep 10 preview.
I personally thought it was a good angle - like they did not stretch it out and make Kang Sol a mean, conniving ex coming back to be a thorn for our main couple. She in a way is perhaps a catalyst for the love story and also more.
1) Her role in bringing the main couple close: ➥ She made Mi Ran feel jealous, then overcome it. We get to know that she is rooting for Mi Ran, and in fact her presence makes Mi Ran be a bit more bold and take action. ➥ Director Do also has feelings for Mi Ran: I mean it was obvious from the start when he gave the jacket, then followed her to the other gym in secret, then also shoved her ex at the bus stop and now running barefoot with her on the back. Just need them to seal it with a kiss, for these fools to realise that they are in love.
2) Kang Sol's second part of comeback reason: ➥ This will be more evident in coming episode. ➥ Her death would be blamed on Director Do. She was an influencer and so people will look for targets to blame her death on and given the preview looks like its falling on Director Do. ➥ Maybe the 24-Hour Club will be in danger of shutting down, but Director Do will have unwavering support from Mi Ran, bringing them closer ➥ Further, looks like Lee Roy might help out in some way; making amends to their otherwise banter/rivalry ➥ Ultimately something from Kang Sol's archive posts/or future scheduled posts will be revealed and people will realise Director Do is innocent OR Mi Ran and Director Do will clear the latter's name bringing them closer
Hence, I loved the way they used the ex-girlfriend formula in a very refreshing way. It all fits quite well, and till now we don't hate any character or so. Its all still in good fun, emotional bits, and hopefully NEVER A SAD ENDING!

Yes, acting no doubt was top-notch, I mean with fine actors and actresses, we expected nothing less. But that itself is a double-edged sword you can say - cause with such caliber of talent - I would have preferred another form of ending. It felt too underwhelming the more I think about it. Like the makers just did not know what to do and had a very overly used formula played out.
Ep 9 - Our ML finds expensive books from a public (?) library (scene with his master, MGM) and then goes to Zhen Tower. The books are in the hands of the attendant, and after meeting with FL - ML is returning empty-handed 😅 books totally forgotten
I know the whole point was not books but meeting with Master in secret and the FL But still as a man who is supposed to be clever and resourceful, this was a character oversight Minor but there 😂😂😂

Ahhh - MGM is complex. So am starting Ep 9 and so far while MGM has been great, I have my suspicions too. Especially given that he is a person who would do anything not to drown in the proverbial sinking boat - like he himself mentioned and advises Zang Hai.
I really like his character - he reminds me of Sensei's like Yoda, Shifu, Miyagi etc. So I really hope he is a good character through and through. But I am still a little sus with the whole masked man, and the 2 masters - like could there be another motive they trained this young boy....!

Wait Wait - he was not taught martial arts, right?
Like as soon as he is brought to the 2 masters - as a child Zhinu, he asks that he be taught martial arts but then the master refuses outright saying he is too weak (I think he meant physically and some lines about weak bones).
He goes on to explain that Martial Arts/Physical Power is not the only way to get revenge and which is why he was taught the other arts - strategy, geomancy etc. Basically he was raised to use his wits and "silver tongue" to turn the tides in his favor - by turning the enemy on themselves - which is what he is doing.
I have not reached this episode that you are talking about (I am on Ep 9) but just thought that he was never taught martial arts in the first place - like he may know the basics but that is not his forte and maybe that is why he can't fight in the scene you mentioned?

1. 2 episodes per day is so good especially for a revenge/suspense show which you cannot keep down.
2. So far it is good although starting out (am on Ep 9), so I wanted to know how others are feeling it. Usually romance as a plot is not needed in a revenge drama, unless it is the main driver. Which is why it usually done badly than good - at least that's what my experience had been. Given the drama is going so well RN, I was scared that something will go wrong and it will break my good experience. Good to set the expectation accordingly then, but looks like I wont need to do that here.
3. I am hoping you watch C-dramas usually, can you share what could be the reference in general? Like Ming Dynasty is too wide - they mention some years 9th year in <....> Era. Any idea what it could be. Its okay - if you don't - just was curious as I got too deep into this show 😅
I love that kind of genre - where the hero is able to use tricks/mind games/strategy to win over the enemies. And if there is revenge and emotion added, that's a bonus for sure. Which is why I was drawn to this drama even with my less and in-experience with historical C-dramas and I am glad I did.

and yes - I think in recent times, LJY is the most versatile actor I have seen. Makes it even better to know that he is an idol-turned-actor. I just love that he is getting the recognition he deserves and hoping it also results in more projects/main roles and awards in future. 2025 first half literally belonged to him and I hope the rest does too. Maybe it is deliberate too - given military enlistment is coming soon, so I hope to see loads of him before there is a break - just don't want the projects to end anytime soon, he is too good of an artist.

I really want to know what is their beef - Director Do and Lee Roy's ? Why are they not seeing eye-to-eye? I guess would have to do with Do Hyeon's past - and am assuming maybe even Kang Sol, since she seems to be a common factor. Excited to see how the next 4 episodes roll out.

For him I will especially remember - 49 Days, Childe, Legend of the Blue Sea, Juvenile Justice as some of the works where I recall him most fondly 💔
