What a fun article.

It's surprising what a change in hair style and a good character role can do to change your mind about an actor. Or to even just wow you. Even if you liked an actor in one drama/movie, if he can look so different as to make you go "that's HIM?!" then he has done his job. And you know, a really good actor can get into character so well that you won't always recognize him (like your example, Gary Oldman). Even a mediocre actor can surprise you if given the right script and given proper direction.

The Pratchett movies were fantastic. Of course, since they're adaptations they're not as good as the books, but in both Terry Pratchett was on the set. He even did cameos in all the movies :). So he definitely was able to provide input for the filming. Which is a good thing. I saw the live adaptation of Going Postal, but haven't purchased it yet. It stars Richard Coyle (from Coupling!) as Moist, so I got double the goodness - adorable Richard playing my beloved Moist <3

Well I'm still slowly organizing. What started out as a small project is now turning into a furniture and room move around. I don't move furniture well by myself so I have to wait for either my husband or my son to be around to help. So this may take me through the weekend and possibly into early next week. @.@

I understand being busy. I've been busying myself the last few days with some home organizing.

I've yet to read all of Pratchett's books myself, but I've read most of them. I even have a 2 of the mini-series based on his books - Hogfather & Colour of Magic. I also have the Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music animated shows. if it weren't for lack of funds I'd probably buy all sorts of Discworld merchandise. I'm a Pratchett nut :D. I love Granny & I'm in love with Moist Von Lipwig (from Going Postal & Making Money)

Alice is my other love. Every film and TV adaptation I've seen so far I love.

Yeah, I haven't even got all of the books I've read on my Shelfari account. I can't remember them all. Ha. I haven't added to it for awhile though -- since drama invaded my life I've been unable to bring myself to read. OTL

Loved loved loved White Christmas <3! I still need to finish What's Up Fox... it's on hold for now - I don't know, I just couldn't get into it. I Need Romance took me forever to finish - it isn't one of my favorites. The others I have yet to watch or check out - especially the last 3.

When I need to get out of a slump I generally turn to j-dramas because their series are usually pretty short. Or I watch a special or a movie. A few quick shots will usually lift me out of a slump. :)

thanks for the part 2 article :) I enjoyed your first one too.

Terry Pratchett is my absolute favorite author. Though his worlds would be considered fantasy, he's more of a satirist really.
I also have a fondness for Kate Elliott, Ray Bradbury, Neil Gaiman, Clive Barker, Garth Nix, and - to go into the classics - L. Frank Baum (the Oz books) and Lewis Carroll

Do you have a Shelfari or Goodreads account? I don't use goodreads, but most of the books I've read I've put on my shelfari profile: http://www.shelfari.com/faerydae/shelf

I've read a whole lot more than what's listed there... I just can't remember all the books I read in my teen and pre-teen years. @.@

I did the brain training games for fun too (a different one from what you mentioned). Maybe they helped a little bit. I don't know.

Apparently there are ways to improve your memory. I haven't tried any of the ways though. I regularly do crosswords and sudoku puzzles and that's supposed to help sharpen your mental faculties. I'm not sure if it does anything for memory retention though.

I had to look up Minette Walters. I haven't read her work. With the exception of the classics, I really don't read much crime fiction. It's not that I don't like the genre. My preferences just lean me toward the classics and fantasy/sci-fi so I don't get around to reading other genres too often :P

I thought you'd like that pic. I saw that today and literally laughed out loud. Was just too perfect. :D

I don't know if you've seen this, but as a fellow Muse fan I think you'll appreciate this picture of Chris with his fortune from a fortune cookie -- http://i.imgur.com/OdVJcUI.jpg

Part of it must just be that I have a lot on my mind. If you have a busy mind too then it's understandable if you forget things as well. Don't be too alarmed. My forgetfulness has been the same for the past 10 years.

Love the discount books! I have a pile of classics I bought at a thrift store that I still need to read. Just have to get a round to it I guess...

Well, the way my mind works lately if I don't put Galileo 2 on my PTW list I'll forget about it - not that I plan on forgetting about it. The older I get the more I forget. SO I have to write everything down.

Don't be sorry, I agree with you about Afro Tanaka. I didn't really care too much for the movie, but Matsuda Shota's character was great. If he didn't do such a great job I doubt I would've given it such a high score of 6 on MDL. I go to youtube on occasion just to watch certain clips of him, but I don't think I could watch the whole movie again.

I really haven't been up to watching movies lately. So Gantz is still on hold for me. Maybe... this weekend...? We'll see ^.^

Oh, and I see you have 'Afro Tanaka' on your watching list. Have you seen it yet? I thought it a little weird, but I did love how Matsuda Shota portrayed his character. He plays the awkward character so well.

an older Czech movie from the 90s called "Kolja", Finnish "Mother of Mine" (Aideista parhain), Russian comedy "We Are Family" (Moya bezumnaya semya), and I'm debating whether or not to watch "The Hairdresser" (Die Friseuse). There's another movie I plan on watching, it's an old silent film from 1919 called "The Doll" (Die Puppe). Actually those last 2 films wouldn't be foreign for you because they're both Deutsch. :)

Right now I'm focusing on Southeast Asia. But I have a few movies on my European PTW list - though they're mostly family or "feel-good" movies.

that's really cool! You and her would probably get along as she likes musicals and stuff like that as well.

I've watched movies from all over. Initially from Britain, all over Continental Europe, Scandinavia, then down to India (Bollywood!), Australia/New Zealand, until I eventually made my way to Southeast Asia... Dramaland! I actually haven't watched a ton of foreign movies, but I've seen enough to say that I'm a fan of them.

They're mostly listeners. My oldest daughter sings though (classical/opera style), and my son plays the clarinet. Otherwise it's listen listen listen. My husband has been into music since he was about 12 or 13. He even occasionally provides DJ services for weddings and small events.
Music: in general I can take it or leave it. I'm more into watching things: movies, anime, drama, etc... I think foreign and independent films led me on the path toward Asian drama. If I wasn't into foreign movies & anime I might not have started with Asian drama in the first place.

The only one I'm not interested in is Kind Words. I'm not into Desperate Housewives either - Those kinds of shows are just not my cup of tea. But the other 3 look interesting. So I'll keep my eyes open for them.

Article The Dramatic Disease Spoiler
Summer Snow (not on this list) is a good one involving a life-threatening illness. The only ones I've seen from this list are Scent of a Woman, Millionaire's First Love, and First Time, My Rainy Days. I loved all 4. Except I was a bit disappointed by the ending of Scent of a Woman. They shouldn't have left it open. I expected her to die. That may sound mean, but you know... when I see a show about someone with an incurable terminal illness I expect some sort of death. I want to see how the loved ones come to terms with it afterwards.

Anyway, terminal illnesses are a common theme all over the world. I don't expect that to change. And, of course, I can't resist them.

That's okay. Everyone in my family (except me) is pretty much obsessed with music so they're always listening to something. That's the only reason I know about Pandora and Spotify. I still like music just not to the point they do... Anyway, you can still use the internet with Pandora, it's just one less tab to have open :).

I had a ton of cassettes in my teen years. They were less of a hassle than vinyl albums. I wasn't very careful with the delicate albums - warping and scratching was the norm. ha. Most of our 45's from my very young years belonged to my mom or my older sisters.

Spotify's less complicated than they make it out to be. Unlike Pandora (another music streaming site), you don't play the music in your browser. It's a program that can play in the background leaving your internet browser free for browsing.
