I really can't compare fairly because I haven't seen The Notebook yet. I'm not a big fan of Nicholas Sparks' books so I generally don't watch the movies based on his books. But I really really loved Queen In Hyun's Man. It was one of the few dramas that I really bawled (both for happiness and sadness). So I have the feeling that QIHM would still win if I ever saw Notebook. (and yes Ryan Gosling is nice looking, but he's not my cup of tea.)

That's too funny. I thought we were already added as friends too :D I'm glad you caught that.

That would be cool to see them together in a drama! I haven't seen either of them in a drama lately. I got distracted by other dramas so haven't had a chance to see much of their work this autumn (I'm talking about their older dramas -- not sure if they're in newer dramas or not).

Well, I won't say anything else about QIHM... I don't want to spoil anything. I'll just say I was very pleased with the ending. ^.^

Loved Chilling Romance so much I had to have my husband and daughter watch it with me again. It was really sweet and funny. I loved when she got drunk and ripped his shirt. Those 2 just went really well together. <3

Well, I think that Queen In Hyun's story is well-known in Korea (much like Mary Queen of Scots' story is well-known in Britain) so they didn't feel the need to delve into her story too much. Her story was just the historical backdrop. Also, I don't know what went through that boy's head. Ahhh... His duty to the queen vs his love for Hee Jin.^.^

I'm a middle child too so I felt no protective instincts toward my younger brothers. One of my older sisters did over-mother my younger brother though. So I dunno. I've observed other families in my life and have seen enough scenarios in movies and TV to get an idea of what happens in these obsessively protective relationships.

Yeah, in QIHM the history isn't the exact focus of the story. It's just a place where Boong Do comes from. So I looked up the history on Wikipedia (not the best source I know, but I didn't feel like looking up "official" sources) and it explains a bit about the history of the battle of the consorts (as I like to call it): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Inhyeon

In many families, older siblings have the responsibility of helping to take care of young siblings. So I can see where some siblings might feel a sense of responsibility toward the youngsters. I think overprotective brothers might also be a norm where there are many brothers and the last child is a girl - she becomes the "princess" of the family. i.e. "Look a precious daughter is finally born!". That's pretty much what happened in MoMo. Puts a damper on dating life that's for sure.

To tell the truth I was a bit confused as to the reasons behind the Q1 and Q2 story. Apparently it's mostly due to jealousy. The concubine Lady Jang just wanted to be queen. But it seems the king realized his error? I'm not sure why Boong Do supports the Queen In Hyun - they never get into the why ... they just point out that he's one of those on her side. His family was massacred so maybe Q1 had something to do with his safety or maybe Q2 supporters had something to do with his family's death? I don't know... I was too involved with the romance to care about the details of court intrigue (?_?;)

As a parent I understand their wanting to protect little sister, but family needs to allow their sibling or child to grow up and that requires letting go and letting them make their own mistakes (difficult as that may be).

good idea! though it didn't work for me this time - I didn't even feel like watching a Hollywood movie :O. Usually a J- or K-movie will help bring me out of a slump. A couple of hours is a nice fix. and then eventually I'll want more than a couple of hours. ^.^

Glad you found some dramas to get out of your slump! :D
I've sort of been in a slump myself. Not just Asian drama, but all tv shows and movies in general. But I'm slowly getting out of it. :)

I've only seen Spirited Away in this list. OMG! Spirited Away would have to have a MASSIVE special effects budget! The CGI and costuming could only be done by the masters of cinema. Seriously any thing less than masterful would not be worth the watch because the animated version was just too well done. Though I agree with you -- I preferred Howl's Moving Castle ;). I'd have mixed feelings about Howl being turned into live action. I read the book and the anime is a bit different from the book soooo... I don't know.

Live adaptations of transformations do seem to be a bit corny(Sailor Moon), but perhaps, like you said, they could pull it off without the transformation if they did a Pretear live action (now I want to see the anime)

hey there. and thank you for the friend request. Just finished an awesome police action drama called Black & White. I'm now working on MoMo Love -- not sure if this is interesting or not yet.
Yourself?

I really love QIHM and I'm glad you like it so far. It truly is a light drama. Even though it does have it's sad moments, overall it's not too melo and when I watched it was just what the doctor ordered.

Yes, MoMo is a very light drama and very cute. Her brothers are very obsessive about protecting her - *face palm* - If I were their parents I wouldn't leave them in charge of her at all! Anyway, I haven't gotten to the love rivals yet so I hope their appearance doesn't change the lightness too much.

Too bad I hate cooking .. these look great. But I'm a good cook, so maybe when I'm actually in the mood I'll give one of these a try. Despite not liking the kitchen, once in a blue moon I do have the urge to be culinary. Thanks for sharing the recipes. I like to keep simple int'l recipes like these on hand.

I know what you mean. I've gotten my own recommendations from others and while I put them on my PTW list I usually have to wait til I'm in the mood or until I finish the ones that have top priority on my list. :)

lol... well I'm used to the tdramas and Smiling Pasta scared me a bit too :D Taiwan is kind of hit and miss when it comes to dramas. Sometimes you get lucky and find a gem and other times you're like "what am I even watching?!?". But, after you get used to their style of acting and humor you start to be more forgiving the more you watch them.

I'm glad you're going to watch B&W eventually. I've even convinced my husband to watch it when he has time. It's just one of those dramas that really needs to be seen by an international audience(not just asian drama fans) because it's just that good.

looks interesting! but I agree with you... when it comes to Tw-dramas you either love it or hate it. :) I've dropped quite a few, but when I find a gem I stick with it til the end. I'll add this to my ptw list.

It was nice. I love teriyaki. ^.^

You finished ITWY as well! Awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's on my eventually will watch list. It sounds like it was a good choice as a first Tdrama! I know what you mean. So many couples in these romantic comedies are so frustrating. Even if you love the drama there are just moments when you want to scream at them in frustration. :)

The opening song for B&W is on youtube. It's about 1 min 30 sec of scenes from throughout the show. So it acts like its own little trailer for the series. That way you can get an idea of what it's like (if you want). Or you can watch the 8 min official trailer. It's definitely a drama that I'd recommend to anyone who watches Asian drama. It's a "must-see".

Thank you very much! ^.^ We actually didn't do much. We got a nice bit of food from our local Teriyaki eatery. We go there a couple times a year. The owner even recognizes us. I meant to try something different, but of course I got the usual. Old habits die hard I guess. We watched a light movie at home and then spent the rest of the day resting.

On a happy note. I finished B&W yesterday morning before hubby came home from work. It was a very awesome drama. It may have taken me awhile to finish, but I really enjoyed every episode while I was watching it. I only didn't give it a 10 because I have such a hard time with police action dramas (police comedies and detective shows I have less trouble with -- weird? o.O)

Thanks! We'll probably just go out for a meal. And maybe window shop.. or shop for real :). Anyway, no big plans. just spending some time together is all.

Enjoy your time watching ITWY!

I'm a total fan of this drama. I've seen it twice. Seriously though, I know it's not for everyone. However, I grew up on classic movies and tv that specialized in schtick and slapstick. Especially silent movies that use exaggerated facial expressions, so they don't bother me. Besides this show is based on a manga and is very cartoonish. It's also targeted toward a young teen girl audience. All fun and innocence! :) They never claimed to be a serious drama. So don't go in expecting something deep and meaningful. Enjoy the weird humor and take it with a grain of salt.

It's one of my favorite dramas and I would gladly watch it again :D.

Wu Chun shirtless <3 - well he was an athlete so it's expected of him to be well built ^.^
