I grew up watching classic films and the screwball comedies are my favorites. So it stands to reason that Asian drama's rom-coms are among my favorites. I'm also more forgiving of dramas that others think are too "over-the-top" because I'm so accustomed to farce and exaggerated facial expressions. This because I'm also a fan of silent movies. So bring on the screwball comedy, the exaggerated acting, and the weird pantomime expressions. It's what I love. If anyone wants to discuss classic films (and weird Asian drama) with me in greater depth feel free to send me a note :)

Thanks for this article. It's a topic I wanted to see mentioned here ^.^

I haven't seen these Japanese movies yet, but The Road Home was fantastic. I saw it years before I got into drama watching (I've always loved foreign movies). It's great to see it on this list <3

When I have burnouts I just avoid the computer screen altogether (as far as for watching anything) and do something creative instead - like for some it would be painting or writing.. For me, it's knitting and crochet. I also sometimes do some hands on jigsaw puzzles. Watching anything at all just makes my feelings of being burnt out worse. Another thing I do? Listen to music. For me, watching variety shows and/or music programs is the equivalent of drama watching. Sometimes it's best to step away from the screen altogether.

To sum it up: for me *Drama burnout = TV burnout*

Uhhhh... not sure what to think of this one. BOF and Pretty Man I thought were just okay. so I'm not putting my hopes on the company making a success of Nodame Cantabile. I'll probably watch just to see how they do, but I don't think it will come close to the Japanese adaptation.

yes.. I get annoyed by 'idiot cops' in dramas too. What are the writers even thinking? Ah well. Yes, SJS is definitely hot in Ghost. He does a fantastic performance. All the actors in that drama do!

Thanks for the cheer! And when I finish I think I'll deserve a "high five!" and a huge sigh of relief *ahhhh*

Even my husband was laughing along with me at some of the scenes of Let's Eat (he sneaked a peak while he was getting ready for work). I'm going to get him to watch the complete episodes and then I have a legitimate reason to watch those episodes again. :D

I thought Ghost was really good. Enjoy the show! I watched it at a time when I was in the mood for that genre so I was able to fully enjoy each episode :) I hope you enjoy it too.
I really liked Master's Sun, but the last few eps bothered me. They felt like they were dragged out just for the sake of having more screen time :/

I'm doing okay. Managing to squeak by with I Do I Do. An average watch - not bad, but not great either. I only have 5 more eps so I'm sticking with it the best I can. In the mean time I started watching "Let's Eat"'. Read the "currently watching" article about it here on MDL & it piqued my interest. I thought I'd watch an ep or 2 each week since it's currently airing & eventually catch up. Curses! It's too good & I caught up in just a couple days. So now I have to wait for each ep to air. -.-

I know. melodrama is fine for a movie or even for a short series. but 16+ eps of melo is too much. I've seen a couple of melos but I can't watch them regularly.

yeah, I'm definitely recovering from my slump.

smiles and laughs... the best things ever :D

Yeah, I feel the same way about JGS - I like him too, but I think there are a number of other actors that are much more beautiful and would've have been more ideally suited for the part. But I watched it because someone suggested it as a light watch that didn't bring lots of gut wrenching frustration. For getting out of a slump I definitely don't want to deal with a majorly melo or makjang storyline.

Dropping dramas is hard for me too, so instead of leaving them all on my currently watching list I moved them to my "on hold" list. I'm not sure when I'll get to them though. -.- I understand that it's easy to get impatient at times though. I get that way myself.

I really can't bring myself to even think about the other dramas LJW is in... many of them are over 70 eps O.O. So I think these will be the only 2 of his dramas I'll watch. His character in Pretty Boy laughed a lot and I really became enamored with his laugh. He has a wonderfully infectious laugh. I get to hear it sometimes in I Do I Do, but not as much as in Pretty Boy. I really do love the sound of a good laugh. :D

Thanks for the article. It's nice to see what's coming up. ^.^

I may or may not watch Emergency Couple. I'm not a real fan of Choi Jin Hyuk. But it does look like an entertaining show... so that's a maybe. Full Sun... looks too melo for my taste. I love supernatural and sci-fi dramas so Ghost Seeing Detective is being added to my PTW list for sure.

If anything Lucky 7 is all about the character interaction which is entertaining. But after the first 2 eps you don't care for it then you can always stop. At least I wasn't ever at a point that I felt like quitting it so that's a good thing.

You have quite a few dramas you're watching! O.O I only do that many, if I'm watching programs that are currently airing (which is rare). But Pretty Boy wasn't too bad. I stuck with it for the 2nd lead rather than for JGS. Lee Jang Woo plays the 2nd male and I fell in love with his character. I hadn't heard of him before watching this though. So I looked him up and noticed he was in I Do, I Do... So that's why I'm now watching that one. So far I don't think I Do I Do is going to be a favorite, but I have no major complaints yet. Will have to see how things go...

Well, to tell the truth for Lucky 7 you could get away with watching the first 1 or 2 episodes for character intro... then skip to the last 2 episodes and then watch the special. The last 2 eps and the special make the show worth watching in the end. I think I would've been happy if they had just made the story a movie... which is why I like the last 2 eps and the special.. they're stories that are good and each is movie length (if all that made sense o.O). Anyway, I wouldn't totally discount it. If you're a true MatsuJun fan it's not a show to dismiss. Because his and Eita's interaction with each other is fantastic.

I know the feeling of being impatient. Sometimes having a variety of genres going on at the same time helps. If I watch the same genre for 4-5 series in a row I sometimes get bored (few exceptions).

The only 2 I watched on this list are Nail Shop Paris and Vampire Heaven. And I couldn't agree with you more on both. Vampire Heaven could've had the potential for a good story, but like you said, the delivery was just awful. As for Nail Shop Paris(*face palm*) that was a big mistake.

The rest of the series on the list I haven't had much interest in other than Just You, despite your comments/reviews on it I'll probably still watch it. I tend to do things like that. Sometimes I actually do like shows that others say are awful ("sometimes" being the key word).

Eureka only has 5 seasons... I didn't even manage to get that far. That's why it's on hold. I hate to drop it completely.
I always feel bad when I stop watching a series, but there's only so much I can take. So I can understand what you're saying about investing the time to watch.

Lucky Seven wasn't bad. The actors had great chemistry together and I really liked the characters. The stories for the show were just a bit average. I feel like I would've liked it better if it was a movie. The last 2 episodes were the best as they were the focal point of the whole series. I did like the special better than the series. But it, too was an average detective special. If the actors got together on another, better, project I would love to see them again because they were awesome together.

Yeah, Eureka is one of those shows that are difficult to stay with. after the 2nd season I started to get bored, but stuck with it on principle... but by season 4 I was like "well, I need to put this one on hold".

It's so seldom I can watch a show with someone so if my husband is awake long enough to watch a show then I take advantage of it. He tends to fall asleep even during shows he likes. So I think it'll be a while before he catches up with me for Supernatural.
But yeah, I highly recommend Supernatural if you're into shows about the ... supernatural (thus the title - haha)... demons and ghosts and monsters, oh my! The first season mostly deals with their job with just a hint of the full story of the 2 brothers... and then it gets really good.

I know.. .creepy!

I can't seem to stick with any American and some British tv shows for long because they go on and on and on. Asian dramas are easier to stick with because the majority of them are short and sweet. Anything more than 20 episodes and I get anxious for it to be over.
I think I've mentioned before that I usually can't stick with American dramas for more than 1 or 2 season.... no matter how much I like it. I did pretty good with the sci-fi cable series "Eureka". I only have 1 1/2 more seasons to go. But I still can't bring myself to finish it yet. -.- Supernatural seems to be the only exception for me... I still haven't caught up yet, but I'm almost current. I'm just waiting for my husband to catch up so we can watch the rest together.

Thanks much :).
Osaka is one of my fav Azumanga character. The thing I like about that anime is that I have a bit of all the characters within me. Lots of people usually relate to 1 or 2 characters from any given anime, but for me it's like all my personalities let loose on one show.

Yeah, I stopped watching Doctor Who (temporarily) near David Tennant's end. Actually I haven't watched his complete last season as the Doctor. Though I did manage to watch the "Blink" episode. I'll eventually get around to catching up, but for now... I'll occupy myself with other things... like Asian drama ;)

I'm much better now ^.^. It always takes a couple days for my eyes to feel well enough to watch things with subtitles (or to read books). Now I'm just back to my normal allergy/itchy eye thing. Eye drops... eye drops ... eye drops. Have you seen AzuManga Daioh? If you have you know what I'm talking about when Osaka applies her drops - I have to do nearly the same thing. If you haven't seen it then here's the link with the clip. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIfARIUQ1KM

I love Star Wars. Like you I prefer the first trilogy. As a kid I had the toys and even collected the bubble gum cards. I think my mom threw out my collection when I got older (I certainly can't remember what happened to them!). I had nearly the complete set. Ah well.

I hate spoilers too. It's difficult to avoid on the internet though :(. I haven't been able to continue Dr. Who either for that reason... OTL
