It's not edited in a bad way. Just like typical hollywood movies many little details from the book are left out. But the important bits are still there. I saw the movie before the book. And even though I loved the movie... A few years after seeing it I read the book and understood the story so much better.

It's been a few years since I've seen xxxHolic anime so I'll have to rewatch. I remember I really liked it though. Once I'm done with the drama I will watch it again... probably not til November though...

The thing about Rebecca the film version is it is edited. I always worry someone won't like something I recommend. It's more of a mystery/romance than a thriller. Kind of the gothic feel to it like a film based on a Bronte book.

I have seen a few Clamp anime. I saw xxxHolic anime many years ago. It's been so long I don't remember it to well. I also saw Cardcaptor Sakura and Chobits. I started watching Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle but haven't finished that yet. Was quite awhile ago so I'd have to restart that one. I haven't read any of their manga though. Just the anime versions.

I really liked Shinigami no Ballad. I'll have to watch the anime now :)

It's tough for me to pick a favorite Hitchcock movie. Psycho, Shadow of a Doubt, and Rebecca are my top favorites I think (yes, it's 'Rebecca' based on the novel!)

Yes, if you like Charade you'll like Wait Until Dark. I've seen Charade numerous times (I own it on DVD!) and Wait Until Dark only on TV a couple times. Yeah, Jean Arthur isn't as well remembered as actresses like Ginger Rogers, Ingrid Bergman, and Katherine Hepburn, etc... I feel like now-a-days she's under-rated.

Do you like Alfred Hitchcock movies? I've always been a fan of suspense thrillers. So I was thinking since you liked Charade you probably like Hitchcock too :)

I don't know my favorite Audrey Hepburn movie. It's tough for me to decide. I loved Tiffany's. But I really loved Charade (with Cary Grant) and Wait Until Dark (both of them are suspense movies).
Jean Arthur - she is in a lot of movies from the 30s & 40s. She was in the original Mr. Deeds Goes To Town with Gary Cooper, and also in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington with Jimmy Stewart. I loved her also in The More the Merrier with Joel McCrea. She's just really adorable. She's also in a lot of other fantastic movies too.

When my kids were little I watched a lot of classic movies on cable while they were in school. In much the same way I watch Asian dramas now :). Of course my favorite is Audrey Hepburn. I also love Cary Grant. I've seen most of their movies. In era before Audrey my favorite is probably Jean Arthur.

Yes, Bad Guy is very melo. I can't believe I watched it. I rarely watch those types. Oh yeah, I watched Mary Stayed Out all Night too. Silly me for forgetting about that. I'm now at the point I've watched so many dramas I can't keep track! Thank goodness for MDL!

Rebecca is very awesome.. Mystery, secrets, romance. It's tough to describe in just a few short words. I actually saw the movie first. To sum up: A woman falls in love and marries a man. In new home there are lots of secrets about 1st wife. She feels threatened by housekeeper who loves 1st wife. you should really look it up!

well to be fair when I'm talking about American actors I'm thinking modern ones. Very few TV actors now-a-days that I know the name. I know their faces but have to do a Google search to recall their names. I do know a ton of actors/actresses by name from the silver screen era (1930s-1960s). I'm a classic movie fan :)
KJW was also in Bad Guy. That and Coffee Prince are the only other 2 dramas I've seen him in other than Who are You. I want to see him in more :)
'Jane Eyre' is one of my favorites. I haven't read any of the poems. Have you read 'Rebecca' by Daphne du Maurier? (Laurence Olivier was in that film too!). It has the same kind of feel as the Bronte Sisters books but it's a classic contemporary - written in the 1930s I think. Rebecca is my favorite romance and barely tops Jane Eyre on my list :)

I always love the female characters that stay tough from start to finish. It bothers me when female characters are wishy-washy around men. I mean, it's okay to love a man, just don't let him push you around. Stand up for yourself!
Thanks for this article. It also gave me a few more dramas I need to add to my PTW list. :D

I like your article but I respectfully disagree in regards to Ha Ji Won's characters-they both start as strong…
I have to agree with you there. I haven't seen King2Hearts yet, but with Secret Garden I loved her tough character at first, and then she progressively became submissive. :(

Oh, and it was so strange to see Kim Jae Wook with a short haircut. I'm too used to his longer hair style. But he still looked good ^.^

Welllll... City Hunter was one of the very first dramas I saw so I wasn't paying much attention to who the actors were at the time. I'm better with actors now. I actually know the names of more Asian actors than American actors :D

To tell the truth, the leads in Master's Sun could've been played by any of the top Korean actors of their generation. No extra special acting ability was needed I think. It was still a great drama, but the leads seemed like pretty easy parts to play for veteran actors. I'm just saying.
Went in not knowing what to expect from Who Are You since I really didn't have it on my PTW list & I didn't read any prior reviews. I think it was worth the watch, just not one of my favorites is all.

I'm a real fan of the Bronte sisters. I did see the Wuthering Heights movie with Laurence Olivier. need to rewatch cuz it's been so long. Can't recall what I thought of it.

There isn't an anime for Yankee-kun that I'm aware of. it's also known as Flunk Punk Rumble in English.

Actually, I forgot that Lee Joon Hyuk was in City Hunter. So that was actually where I saw him first :P. My mind is lost sometimes =.=... I really haven't seen him in anything else other than those 2 and Secret Garden. Oh, I did see him as a supporting character in a movie called Fortune Salon. It was an ok movie... like a "meh" reaction from me.

1st: Yankee-kun - flaws? hmm... maybe the humor may not be everybody's cup of tea. I know the show is mostly about school and friendship, but I would have liked seeing more romance between the 2 because they had really good chemistry. That's kind of a spoiler though huh... haven't read the manga so I can't compare. Have you read it?

2nd: Galileo. Haven't added the 2nd season for no particular reason. I plan on watching it - just haven't gotten around to adding it to my PTW list. :)

3rd: City Hall. There's quite a bit of politics, but it's not real boring. It's more like campaigning/election type stuff. But in general it's a good romantic comedy. I was actually surprised that I liked it because I'm not normally into political stuff myself. It was my first Lee Joon Hyuk drama - actually watched it for Kim Sun Ah.

Last: Loved Master's Sun!

I knew what it meant - it wasn't a language issue (it's the same in English)... I just meant that I wasn't sure how to respond. I didn't want the conversation to end! ^.^

I love this kid (yes I'm old enough to call him a kid). I'm slowly trying to see more of his work. Thanks for this Stalker's Guide. He definitely deserves it <3 I am looking forward to seeing Nou Otoko! Thanks for the heads up on the subtitles being out ^.^

Yes, watching a sad movie is easier than a drama. There's only so much sadness I can take before I have to stop.
I'm not sure how soon I'll see I Hear Your Voice, but I'll let you know.

My moods get unpredictable too. While I normally don't like melodrama occasionally I'll be in the mood for a downer of a show or movie and I'll watch one. Most other times I either want comedy, action, or thriller - Something to get me excited. You know?

I plan to watch I Hear Your Voice eventually (so many shows I need to watch!). I'm glad you like it so far. I don't mind if a show is predictable if the story leading up to the predictability is entertaining.

So far I'm having fun watching the The Master's Sun (see - I didn't ignore your rhyme! it made me smile ^.^)

It was pretty entertaining even if it wasn't an outstanding movie. One of those movies you enjoy, but at the same time can't give it a perfect score. For me the rewatch value is low, but I'm really glad I watched it. :)

How are you liking I Hear You Voice?

and those 2 movies you're watching? Addicted and the other one? I forgot what it was..

I haven't read the Mars manga, so I can't compare, but it is one of the more popular Taiwanese dramas. From my experience so far Taiwan tends to stay close to the story line of the manga and anime they base their dramas on. But like I said, I can't compare as I haven't read it.

Vampire Heaven was mediocre. I think it's something that the preteen crowd would enjoy. The other I saw was Kwaidan which is an old Japanese movie. Very artsy telling of ghost stories - The kind of movie that movie critics like at film festivals... not appreciated by the general public I think. And now my husband and I just finished a Kim Bun movie called "The Gifted Hands" or "Psychometry".
