im always up for trying new dramas but i noticed the rating is gradually going down, is the plot not interesting…
I agree with @reset about the TCM/WM dialogue being overly simplistic. They don't also talk about how they can and should be complimentary. LOL and yes there is also a decent amount of patronizing dialogue. There is also some really awesome quotes here and there. @NF212 very true - some subjects matter is handled very poorly.
My overall thoughts on rating is that I think a lot of people are waiting to rate until the drama is done. And also around the mid point of a drama some people drop it and also haters give it low ratings so that naturally brings the score down (mid point is usually when there is various conflicts being set up so it can be frustrating for people).
Overall I think its a satisfactory drama and very different. The actors are very good (esp the main ones). The plot and storyline maybe can be better at times but overall I've enjoyed the cinematography, music and the strong focus on family. Based on recent developments I am VERY excited to see how the story wraps up.
As a Lusi fan I am glad I got to see it because I think I got to see a side of her acting we haven't seen before. And for those wondering if romance has started - YES it has!!!! I have to admit having a love story always makes dramas more interesting for me haha. I am also now a new fan of Luo Yi Zhou.
Sorry to say this, but my observation is, if the woman chases the man, she runs the risk of always being the โgiverโ…
That's true :( - especially if the man 'compromised' something in order to be with her.
You make some very good observations there and you make an interesting point about his coldness towards his wife spilling over to his son. Maybe some of it also reflected in how one of his expectations in marrying her was to give birth to a prodigy and that hasn't come true (in his opinion).
I loved TT and RTZ story in these two episodes. To me their story and relationship feels so authentic and real and normal. There was so many moments between them that I loved in these two episodes. I loved how he confessed to her in the toilet (that is definitely going to remain unique haha). I love how he took care of her all night, I love how they set boundaries on who gets the final say over big matters vs small matters in their relationship (already so different from the dynamic between the grandparents and parents generation because the woman actually gets to have a say over big matters! lol).
Then watching them provide medical consultations to the village was so heartwarming. I truly think they are so compatible because they understand each other well, looks good together and genuinely care for each other. They also understand each other's work and is complimentary to that. They bring the best out in each other. I also like that TT is higher energy which RTZ is lower energy and calmer. They each need that in their lives. I see a very happy future together for them if they can overcome the obstacles to come.
About the dad... lol. I think the back story that i'm picking up is that he used to like Little Lark, and he ended up marrying his mentors daughter because it was a more prestigious match but I think his first love was Little Lark. LL clearly liked RXZ more than he liked her but they seem to overall have a good marriage, even though there is a bit of coldness there too (I think its RXZ taking LL for granted). I think LL deserves better.
Very sad at the outcome of the whole situation. I still feel like we got a very vague back story and from what I understand MM has depression and her parents putting undue pressure on her and expecting her to live and behave in a way that 'befetted' the mold they had in their mind obviously didn't help her. Mental illness is very serious, and people who are depressed needs proper treatment. I am glad the show put some attention to this topic that I think is very taboo in asian cultures but they handled it messily. What RTZ said was so true, no one could have saved MM but herself. But her parents form of love was also smothering her.
I was literally screaming at the end scene where RTX goes " By what time did you sleep last night" and TT goes…
I was thinking it might be when they both sneaked in last night from going to the skatepark, but I also found it funny how no one asked any questions lmao. They clearly know RTZ likes her and is avoiding the topic ๐ ๐
The grandma and mom both seem to have objections about TT or MM being a serious romantic contender for RTZ. Focusing on TT in particular, what's so bad about her?
She comes from a good lineage from what they say. Plus it's not her fault she's orphaned? .... Is it the lack of formal education?
Also towards the end of the latest episode I got the sense now his whole family kind of guesses he likes her.
I find it ironic that WSD used to like LL. But now he has no problem encouraging RXZ to go see his past crush or gf (little lark) while disrespecting LL....
LL is such a danger to her son. She sees everyoneโs faults but his, she indulges him, covers for him and cleans…
I don't have much issues with his mom, because many Asian moms are VERY lenient with their sons. I think she is overcompensating for how the dad treats RTZ by trying to keep him out of trouble with her husband as much as possible and to protect her son through his immature stage and raise him successfully into an adult.
When I see how tough his dad is on him, I'm actually glad he has his mom who shows him how valued he is. Because it's so hard for kids if they have no self esteem because they feel like they can't rely or depend on either parent. I think the mom and grandpa guides him a lot more gently and honestly he should be allowed to make mistakes and still have his family's love. The only time the mom really disappointed me was when she realized RTZ got TT drunk and she didn't do anything - like didn't even discipline him really (that was unethical).
I do have a lot of issues with the dad and how he treats both his son and wife. Its almost like as long as things are going well they are both in the good, and if either of them makes mistakes he is very tough on them. And if RTZ makes a mistake its always the moms fault, never the dads. He doesn't own up to his own faults or stubbornness. And he doesn't try to get to know his son or value him for all the positive traits RTZ has. He only puts undue pressure on him.
P.s I feel like she's tried to distance MM and RTZ but she didn't get enough support from the rest of her family on that.
I think RTZ has experienced a lot of character growth in a rather short span of time. He used to strike me as…
Yes you are right, I was thinking about this afterwards and I realized his personal growth so far has been a bit more subtle but its definitely there (in all the ways you described). and yes!!!! I felt so sorry for him too when he went looking for her after barely recovering and how he'd run around looking for her didn't get much of her attention.
Not much has happened to bring him and his father closer together yet, but I think maybe in the second half of the show that will come. I have some mixed thoughts about his dad though. He's a good person overall, but his attitude towards both his wife and son feels callous to me at times... even how he kicked out TT for the second time didn't sit right with me.
One other thing I am thinking about the stage RTZ and TT are at is that they are both afraid to ruin what they have by changing their relationship. Sometimes it's really enjoyable to be in a crush stage, whether you are both spending time together, flirting, wondering if the other person likes you, and is on the threshold of what is possible.
The moment you make things real, things can change and you might end up ruining what you already have. Or outside forces can end up ruining what you have. Right now they are spending time together everyday, enjoying each others company - for two people who like each other that is already a great place to be at.
lolโฆoh my gosh. I was literally just going to say that. ๐ I feel like people are gaslighting me into thinking…
I think he didn't deny it because he's teasing her lol, its the first scene where we've gotten to see her show him that she might care if he's dating MM and he's doing the same thing to her that his dad does to the mom lol!๐ฅด
If one day they're dating I hope they should show us when and how do they fall in love? Cause now I'm not convinced…
I don't think we will see that in the usual sense. I think in this drama romance is going to be very subtle and secondary (plus theres so many time jumps). In future episodes I think we will get more direct scenes of them but for those of us who are Lusi fans wanting more romance I think we will have to wait for Hidden Love T.T
