How's this so far? I don't really want to watch another loser by himself ML for the 50th time but a partnership where both characters are just as whipped and downbad for each other.

Yes it is; it rewards the patient and open minded viewer and besides one arc, its superbly well written.
Oh no, I had high hopes from the descriptions and trailers for Ning and Snowy night that they'd give us equal relationships... KMLV sounds great from the book but the trailer makes it seem like they rewrote it to give the exact same thing every romance did in 2024.

I'm excited to watch it, I haven't been able to watch much of anything lately. There's a lot of high profile romance stuff airing/about to air (Snowy night, Ning, KMLM) and I'll wait until it ends as well as your reviews to see if they're well written and if the otps are well balanced (since I know from the discussions we've had you also care about that aspect) or it's the usual nonsense we've been getting this year.

Despite the ending this actually sounds great, a well written drama that respects our intelligence and has complex politics and character dynamics? Yes please. Plus a relationship that's actually equal and devoted from both sides? Sign me up. I so miss intricately written political shows outside and inside the harem.

But, to pass the censorship they improved his character and his story. And we can see this from the synopsis itself. He…
This actually sounds interesting and different from the usual cdrama dynamics but judging from the trailers I think they completely changed it to their usual shtick. He seems to be the one obsessed with her from the start while she seems to barely register him except for wanting to kill him.

Sad
May I ask why or how she dies? Does it have anything to do with the ML or is it the usual "saving the world" stuff?

What a lovely, adorable show. Incredibly wholesome and low stakes but not devoid of substance.

American procedurals also has it. The Castle, female lead tried to find a murder of her mother for many seasons.…
I like Castle but the difference is, for Kate that was slowly tickled out and took seasons to resolve. This is already resolved because they weren't planning/sure they would get a second season so that would mean any mystery relating to YS would just be new and added misery.

Tyvm. If this trend continues, soon I will only watch male centric dramas. 😅😂
It did? Didn't it get an 8 on douban? Or is that just fans of the actors, which the fandom culture in China and the way it functions is so strange to me, they have so much influence and power.

It does, if it was mutual it wouldn't be a problem but they're on completely opposite ends of the spectrum so they both end up looking like dumbasses in different ways and like you said in this review, we don't even understand why these MLs are so infatuated in the first place which reiterates that it's not good or thoughtful writing, it's just something to check off because that's what fans want now or they get backlash.

Yup it's all very superficial like someone who doesn't comprehend feminism or that in fiction it boils down to well written complex and varied female characters and them caring about their love interests and being vulnerable does not diminish them. It's so funny because great ML is now dude who spends his time simping over the FL but a great FL is somehow the opposite...

Lol right? I love female centric dramas, I love romance and I want to watch both but they're making it really hard. They're making it seem as if it's impossible to write a female centric show without these weird insanely imbalanced relationships when it's been done successfully countless times, and most of the time it's such a disservice to the characters as well, because what they think comes off as "strong" is just embarrassing.

Review Go East
Great review, it hits all the points I was wondering about in terms of if I wanted to watch the drama, the leads, the plot, the relationships, the acting...Also this "This is the latest in a disturbing trend of dramas where the female characters get a free pass for toxic behaviour towards male characters who pretty much just roll over and play dead. When did it become so unfashionable to have balanced relationships where men and women just treat each other well?" Perfectly sums up my issue with dramas the last couple of years (2024 especially).

yes i agree with you gurl actually living in the wild for so long and manage to survive but she is too dumb to…
Yeah, I love costume dramas too but the writing quality is a huge problem but it seems a lot of Chinese audiences enjoy these kinds of dynamics maybe? Because anytime a FL does even 1% of what the ML is doing they say she's got love on the brain but the ML needs to be the picture of devotion ( I was discussing love's rebellion with someone and they mentioned the actress was worried they'd say her character had love on the brain when she's just doing the most normal basic stuff , this man literally dies for her twice and does a thousand other things). And unfortunately it's not just costume dramas, modern ones too, Amidst a snowstorm of love, will love in spring, you are my secret, love endures, as beautiful as you, my boss, men in love, our interpreter are just as bad in that department.

Same, I like to see both leads treat each other well or at least for there to be a logical canon reason why one of them is treating the other like sh*t and why the MLs are always SO devoted and obsessed, at least make it both? Most of the time neither side makes any sense and it seems it's "just because" the writers deemed it so and it's kind of getting exhausting when every drama is like this. It's starting to feel like a box they have to tick or a rule they have to follow...

I just came here to see if this would be a good lighthearted watch but reading this, I think it's better to look elsewhere. You can't be both stupid and entitled, pick a struggle. WOL and PR were especially brutal in terms of the FLs and their treatment of the ML but I think this year and most of last year too, that's basically the default for pretty much every FL to varying degrees so this nothing new, it's either she's treating him 10 ranks below something she stepped on or their entire relationship is contingent on him doing literally everything. I don't know why I still get surprised, everytime I watch a drama or read the comments I think surely not this one too but alas...

That was a general commentary on the state of romantic relationships in cdramas nowadays. Also it's called an opinion for a reason and I'm allowed mine as you are allowed yours, and mine is while the difference isn't as pronounced in this drama towards the end, there's still a very significant chasm between what the FL and ML are doing for each other in terms of romance.

Yeah I think expecting a cdrama lately to have an equal relationship where it's not just the male lead doing basically everything and instead they show you that both characters love each other just as much and make the same amount of effort is like looking for a unicorn on earth.

Lmao as is your right, I honestly don't care who's hot and who isn't, it barely registers when I'm watching something but I get that it's a big part of it for a lot people which is great.

Characters like this seem to be this actor's specialty, him and the FL's actress nickname for him is literally "underworld simp" as I saw in one of the comments below so that doesn't bode well.
