I really like her tone. I think she is someone needed in a group. You can't have everyone with high pitched voice, you need some lower tones to make the songs more interesting to listen to. The dancing was a bit awkward and I think she was overwhelmed by the styling and the props. Here's the thing, Sunmi has this awkward charm about her, but it does feel intentional. It's awkward, but not awkward you know. While Juri just... seemed awkward with the moves.
π Yeonhee ππ»
How the shoe string broke on the beat π€£π€£ That aside, it was a smart performance, she showed she can do cute and fancy concept and both will fit her well. Her dancing had no issue and had rather stable vocals. I mean Somi herself does not sing the high, but low during the dance break, but she went for the high. Respect.
πSoeun ππ»
For the main dancer she is not... that great? This is supposed to be the thing she is best in... but it's not that impressive compared to other performances.
πΌSoojin ππ»
This is such a bad choice of a song for a competition. The whole song is rather chill and lacks impact. It's addicting and has simple to follow melody so it's great as a summer hit, but it's not a song that's gonna show anyone's skills in anything since it's not really demanding in any aspect.
π₯² Seoyeon ππ»
Poor child does not even know which camera to look at π€£ But I think she has a lot of potential vocally wise. She was out of breath and cut the notes short, but honestly... she was not bad. Her issues with singing came from her not knowing how to sing while dancing, which she will get with more practice.
π Miru ππ»
I think a lot of Korean idols are used to distracting the audience with backup dancers and fancy props and they take these too much into consideration during the evaluation. A lot of dance moves in kpop are hella fucking awkward if done solo, because they are part of the larger picture. So seeing someone dance solo will always feel a bit awkward. Personally I think Miru has a potential to be a lead vocal (not main, I don';t think she can truly belt the notes, but she has a stable vocals even when moving, she can easily carry the verse).
π΄ Yuki ππ»
Girl... you were so cool, how can you forget the lyrics π₯² Also, honestly she should have rap more and dance less. The dance part kind of lacked energy and some of her moves felt short. Still, compared to some others is was good.
βSang Ah ππ»
I don't think she found her color in rapping yet. Both Yeeun and Soyeon have rather nasal sound to them, but Sang Ah does not really fit it that well. So when she tried to do their rap it just sounded whiny... She seems to have fuller and deeper voice. I actually preferred literally these few singing parts she did compared to her rapping.
π₯ Yeeun ππ»
She is serving looks and dancing but where is the rap π₯² Rappers wise Yuki was easily the best. But I know Yeeun has more to offer than her performance here. Like damn... I am kind of disappointed... She is a good dancer, but dancing is not HER THING, rapping is... so why the performance focused on the dancing...
πΆHaein ππ»
Why the darker color underpants? π₯² this show has so many questionable stylistic choices hahaha Well... she did not really show much. The worst thing is a not memorable performance. Even bad performance is better... I like her attitude tho.
π Chaerin ππ»
Oh you don't do Chungha especially Bicycle if you don't feel like the sexy goddess ready to fuck every dude up. This was just... awkward. Oh so awkward πΆ This child probably thinks this songs is truly about bicycles hahaha
π₯Ellyππ»
She is really strong vocally. I don't think messing up lyrics is that much of a big deal as long as the person continues the performance as nothing happened. Just don't stop singing and it's fine. While i like her signing, her dancing was awkward hahaha
π JooE ππ»
And this is what I call Disney Syndrome - when an entertainer goes to extreme to changed their image that was previously truly funny, happy, bubbly. And it almost never works well. I don't think JooE fits this sexy concept. She could go for something more strong, but not this... Watching this performance, I don't think she herself believes she is this level of sexy π€£ And the song does not even fit her voice. This was just... unfortunate choice.
π€Hwiseo ππ»ππ»ππ»
Well here is your main vocal. Showing she can hit the note while also proving her vocals fit the mainstream sound. Perfection. Not to mention her dancing was great. Best performance in this episode.
β³Kei ππ»
I mean... we knew she will do amazing job. I kind of wish both her and Bora went less musical and more pop tho. Did I enjoy the performances? A LOT. But based just on these performances I do not see them as a part of the group, since their sound is sooooooo different from what mnet usually produces in shows like that. That's why I liked Hwiseo a lot, because she achieved both - showing her skills and fitting current trends.
Both Snap and Charismatic seem like a good song. Snap will have more impact and also has the potential to go viral on tiktok coz of the dance, but I feel like Charismatic will have this addicting vibe to it and at the end might do better long term.
Bora be like: I was pureness and sexiness.
I'm like: bish good luck, these two don't match lol
I get that she did not want many strong vocals to stand out more herself, but she legit went - NO VOCALS, ALL RAP! π€£ I'm curious if that will truly be as beneficial for her after all.
Comparing the performance videos: SNAP
PICK-CAT: All I could see was Yuki and Yeorum π€£ I honestly think Bora's strategy failed. She picked all truly good performance, the song is never really focused on vocals... she just does not stand out at all.
μν λ(Athena): yo... Hwiseo tho. damn. Also Kei's vocals fit the song so much more than Bora's...
Ah... picking one is hard. Performance wise Pick-Cat did better, but if I was picking version to just listen to, I'd go with Athena since they had more variety of sounds in their vocals.
Comparing the performance videos: CHARISMATIC
DROP The Beat: yo they need to train Seoyeon to be a rapper, she has such a fucking good color of the voice for it! I liked it a lot. All of them fitted the concept a lot. This JooE is the right JooE. I know she wants to move on from fun and bubbly but it fits her so well.
PICK on the top: NANA! IS! SO! GOOD! Her line and that dance in 2nd verse is gold! But... overall I did not feel this group. It felt like people who wanted to do Snap were forced to do Charismatic π€£
Walk cool... The way mnet spills the tea themselves how rigged everything is. This is how they make some contestant villains and seem to have "attitude". If the production team tells you to do something, you do. And then they can frame it as shit you did yourself π€£
Just 4 people in, but you can see such a vast difference between the younger ones and the ones with experience.
That tier system is a bit dumb, because it completely ignore the idea of one hit wonder. One can have a lot of no1s and one album top sales, but nothing before and after that. And someone else can have a stay career mostly getting into top10s and be a low tier π€‘ On the other hand this is probably the best for the contestants, coz this tier system has nothing to do with their skill, just pure popularity so they can kind of talk themselves into not caring about it as much.
Poor Taeyeon had to deliver such a bullshit like. We made a whole ass big deal of putting you into tiers and make you feel like shit just to say they are actually mEaNiNgLeSs and we put the past behind us π€‘ Typical mnet clown behavior.
Okay and here is why I have a massive beef with the way they explained when to upvote and when to downvote. They completely shifted focus from evaluating the performance and made it so the participants actually evaluate themselves compared to the person that performs. It's not about whenever the performance was good or bad, it's whenever you have better skill than the person that performs. So upvoting performances literally means you think your skill is worse than said person. When in fact one can enjoy the performance and think it's great while also believing they could do better. These two are not mutually exclusive. Asking contestants of a survival show to upvotes others when it means they are literally admitting they are less skilled is such a dumb idea.
π§π»ββοΈDohwa ππ»
First of all, putting the performance aside, I love the outfit and the whole styling. But GIRL, you cannot say you want to be acknowledged as soloist and make people stop associating you with AOA WHILE ALSO performing AOA song as your evaluation pick π€£ So... the opening bit for Elvis was stiff. Especially awkward head movements. Girl is just walking around the stage omg. I am so sorry, but this ain't it. How she got 3 upvotes before she even started singing, why? The voting should happen after the whole performance is over. Now, why the opening bit was awkward? She was obviously worried about the whole outfit change, hence he failed to actually do it quite a few times. Trying to do too much actually kind of ruined her performance, especially since she just too off small piece of the whole outfit and barely anything changed. Was it smart to risk a mistake for it? The whole performance just... seemed not rehearsed enough.
πΌZoa ππ»
She is 17, debuted 4 years ago. Debuted when she was 13. I hate this industry so much. Why the contestant using awkward taking off skirts, and awkward riding a skateboard instead of focusing on the quality of the performance π Not half of the song being lip-sync. Listen... I am fine with skipping one or two words or even lines, but the whole chorus? When the choreo is not even that demanding? I liked the performance before the chorus, but the fact she just did not sing it at all disappoints big time. Was it cute? Sure. Was it better than Dohwa? Sure. Was it really good? No. I just don't know what her strength is after this performance. The choreo of the song is not that hard, she skipped half of the singing lines, all the hardest ones, there is no rapping. What can she bring to the potential group except from being cute?
π Jiwoo ππ»
This was cute, but she also showed some skill. Yes, slightly awkward with some moves, she keeps looking at the floor ro check her position, but she actually sang the song. I do think the hat was dumb idea tho. Again... one "cool" move, but her face was invisible for the majority of the performance for it. Was it worth it? Especially since it seems like she had far more natural and diverse facial expression during the verses and chorus and not the dance break where she finally showed her face. Also, cannot tell me people don't vote based on the popularity. How was she worse than Dohwa or Zoa who almost did not sing? π€£
π Jiwon ππ»ππ»
This is quality! From the interesting intro, small details that are impactful but not hard to do so she did not get stressed about them, actually singing the song, using the whole stage, letting the dancers use props instead of doing it all herself. Yes.
π§π» Suyun ππ»
Why does it feel like she is more of a mid-to high range, but the song is low-mid and high so it's not exactly comfortable for her to sing? The lower parts were barely there and really breathy, and the high-pitch chorus rather strained. She did hit the knows, it was just not exactly pleasant to hear. Not everyone has to be a high pitch voice, play to your strength. But then, what do I expect from kpop industry that is obsessed with high notes? How often it does not matter if the notes are nice to hear, all that matters is how high can you go π€‘ I did loooooooooooove the intro tho! The dancing was obviously the highlight of the performance. She is extremely talented, she just picked wrong song for her vocals.
π₯ Nana ππ»
not me getting chills during the chorus. This is how you pick a song. Vocally easy both melody and range wise, so she can handle it while also showcasing her amazing dancing skills.
π Chaeyeon ππ»
This styling does not fit this song at all, it's so distracting hahahaha skill wise it's great, but somehow I was bored...
ποΈ Fye ππ»
Why she did that short rap part when she is so clearly not a rapper π She did so well except from that part. Great singing, tho fitting more acoustic sound - the opening hype boy part vocal wise was the best from the whole performance.
π§ Riina ππ»
Who comes up with this styling? Both songs are bore light in sound, but her outfit is just sooooooooooo fucking heavy in colors π€‘ Still, good signing, good dancing, great facial expressions during POP. I honestly think she did better with POP than her own song. Just that one high note... why she tried to hit it, oh why hahaha it was so unnecesary.
πΌ Jihan ππ»ππ»
this is how you style yourself when you do POP! Overall she was so much better than Riina. The arrangement of the song was awesome and refreshing, the outfit was spot on, loved how she stood out with the dancer having more simplistic outfits, her vocals were steady and fitting the tone of the song. She truly got herself to embody the song and I'm here for it.
πWooyeon ππ»
Love me a girl picking a song from an artist that is KNOWN for her amazing vocals and then not singing the hardest parts of the song π€‘ She obviously is a decent singing, and amazing dancer. Girl, I know you like Taeyeon, but you ain't belting like Taeyeon so pick a song that fits you more π I just cannot ignore how dumb of a choice this song was π€£ Dancing wise she did great, but all I could focus on was how she was not singing.
π Yeoreum ππ»ππ»ππ»
Just styling and looks wise she is my fav. Even before her performance I just loved how she looks. Damn that performance was just CLEAN AS FUCK! Probably my favorite so far. She is so cool it should be illegal.
π Bora ππ»ππ»ππ»
Well, that was a whole ass musical and I'm here for it.
π³Kei
lol of course Kei goes after Bora, mnet never changes,
At the end of the day, I don't think it matters. Majority of users on mdl know not to trust rating of shows that still air.
As for the crying, as a sentimental bitch myself, I can tell you crying because you are moved is not that big of a deal for some people and should not be the indication of romantic interest. Being moved by someone's actions and consideration is not the same as being attracted to them. While he might have been really moved by what Ju Mi did, he is still far more attracted to Ji Young.
I like Ji Young, but because she constantly adjusts herself and matches her energy to the person sheβs with, itβs hard to get a sense of her true personality. < this. I wish she would be a bit more relaxed and not try to make everyone feel good around her.
They've been there what 10 days? It's extremely short period of time. It's still the time when the physical attraction plays MAJOR role on who you want to spend time with. I'm not really surprised Ji Young is this popular since she has a lot of traits guys are attracted to at first. She is also good at matching the energy of the person she is with and adjusting.
First of all the casting is both good, but also refreshing and surprising. Oh Jung Se in a serious and stoic role is what we needed. I'm far more used to seeing him in more animated and exaggerated characters, so this is a fun new take.
Hong Kyung going from Oh Beom Seok to Lee Hong Sae is something I thought I will struggle with, but damn I have no issue putting my hate behind me and enjoying his character in Revenant. Park Ji Young as a "weak" character is also so weird, but so good! Kim Tae Ri's role is not surprising since her career is short enough to not be type cast yet, AND she was smart enough to take roles that are rather different from each other since day one.
Them I just love the lack of snapchat possessed demon filter π€£π€£ Like.. I am so done with "black eyes" as the indicator of someone being possessed.
Having a director of Through the Darkness in this shows and I love a lot of Kim Eun Hee's writing. Even Jirisan was well written story, and for me the issue was the fact the writing and directing style did not match well... I think Jirisan needed more slow pace and grounded directing, but Lee Eung Bok goes mainstream high budget eventful style.
The initial case was interesting too. I like how the story of the ghost itself also had layers and was not just a quick, simple and poorly written sideplot to introduce the characters and the supernatural elements.
Anyway, good shit!
For now Lee Hong Sae is my favorite character. I just love how he has exactly zero motivation to deal with unnecessary bullshit π€£
By that logic, all guys except Min Gyu should give up on Ji Young coz all she sees is Min Gyu, All girls should give up in Mingyu too (including Ji Young), because all he sees is Jimin. Literally no one here truly reciprocates each other feelings at this stage of the show. For all the contestants it's mostly one sided.
About the couples and viewers reactions. I find it funny how many people online say Min Gyu should wake up and give up Jimin and notice Ji Young since Jimin does not like him back... Well, same can goes to Ji Young - she should wake up and start seeing all the other guys that like her and give up on Min Gyu π€‘ But in both cases it's easier said than done, it;s not like they can just decide to change their feelings. They both are set on one person and even tho they are "technically" opened for more posibilities, realistically speaking they are not lol
Ju Mi
I feel bad for Ju Mi because her personality does not really shine as a romantic interest in a group setting. She is rather independent and takes care of others well, she is not exactly shy etc. so it makes guys less interested in her. But once she does on a date, they see a different side of her. But that's the issue, since she gives more of a friend vibes in the house, she rarely gets the chance to actually show that other side on dates, coz she is not asked to go on many. That's when I wish the show would step in a bit. Like making them go on dates with someone they did not go on a date with yet. Or more of the random dates like the one with picking gifts. So we can get more opportunities to see different people interacting with each other.
Gyeo Re
He barely exists in last two episodes so it;';s hard to have any thoughts about him right now. He likes Ji Young, that's it.
Ji Won
Same as Gyeo Re π€£ Also their small bromance is cute as fuck.
Hu Shin
I am not obsessed over him and Ji Min. They give me more of a close friends vibes. Like the flirting seems too comfortable, as if they feel ok doing it coz they know it won't lead to anything. Like the reason he sent the message to Jimin was literally not because he is interested in her, but because he was worried she would not get any lol I know that protectiveness can turn into romantic interest, but I just don't feel it here.
Jimin
I think she is moving on from Ji Won, but she is not set on any other guy yet. Simply because she was so focused on one, she did not truly consider others as a potential partner. I'm curious how she will act now. Also, when Ji Won starts to be more present (since he said he has 3 shifts left only).
Yi Su
She knew. No thoughts. She picked Hu Shin for obvious reasons, who the fuck would she pick if not him π€£ but I kind of like their "set up", really kdrama like.
Guys look all the same. Looking great in suits, but there is little to no diversity on their formal clothes π€£ I actually like Hu Shin's semi-formal take more - love suits with t-shirts.
Ju Mi looks STUNNING! I love the simple white dress on her! She legit looks both elegant and cute. Great pick.
Jimin looks amazing, but the dress is so basic. With her body it does look great, but not memorable. Kind of like going clubbing style.
Ji Young looks amazingly cute. While the dress is not my style, it perfectly fits her. The semi-high neckline with her shirt hair is perfect.
Yi Su's dress tho! OMG I LOVE IT. It's both a "tight" fits and flowy! β€οΈ
Also, I love that the guys were mostly chill with Ju Mi, but then all nervous when other girls joined. I feel bad for Ju Mi, but at the same time I prefer watching them just being more natural around each other than all the tense shy stuff π
KAJSGFHJDSFBDS HU SHIN NOT BEING ABLE TO SPEAK PROPERLY COZ OF THE NEW GIRL IS SO ADORABLE π€£π€£
Damn watching how awkward they are when she joined them... I always struggle with the initial group setting scenes in dating shows. Coz I'm more of the person to lead the conversation and make people feel more at ease, so seeing them all tense and awkward and not one person taking the initiative to make it more chill is just PAIN π
I LVOE THE GIRLS THEY ARE SO NICE TO THE NEW ONE OMG YES THANK YOU! π
I like the whole ass story of Hu Shin and Yi Su. From her knowing about him before the show, them meeting in the neighborhood, the phone searching. It's all cute π
I like Jimin and Min Gyu a lot too. She is really bubbly and he is more reserved I think they match well together. That said, the whole "not telling others they are going out that day" was such a fucking dumb idea. Everyone knows what this show is, it's not weird they would hang out after work/school. It made is so much weirder to hide it. Especially when they got caught so they had to their keep lying and making it awkward, or admit they were hiding it which would make it all seem weird as fuck. IT'S FUCKING BOVIOUS THEY WOULD ASK WHERE THEY WERE SINCE THEY GOT BACK SO LATE π€‘
Ju Mi needs to step the game up coz omg she did not exist in this episode and literally no guy is into her right now π₯²
Also... watching preview... she does not exist in it either. I want to see her on a date with Hu Shin. Just out of curiosity how he would behave around her.
I don't think the thought through the benefits tbh. Some benefits were useless and had literally no impact on the rankings. The judges were even surprised how insignificant they were.
I don't think going by luck is fair in terms of competition like that. Coz then they don't measure the skill, they measure how lucky the groups are Β―\_(γ)_/Β― Having so many experienced judges, at least for me it would be more fair if the songs were assigned by them to fit the groups' skillset.
Coco Colada is the best example - personally the pre-chorus part is a bit painful to hear because none of the members is comfortable with that pitch and it all sounds strained af. It's obviously a song that would fit a group that focuses more on vocals, but the team that got it ain't it. So while I loved the performance itself, I don't really listen to the song alone.
The reason is they don't have enough time to creat them. < That's a production mistake. Other survival shows manage to plan their shows in a way they have time to produce good songs.
