I am so angry... like it makes NO FUCKING SENSE FOR THIS CHARACTER. Like what the actual fuck. It was going so well, but this random "we are making a character make a massive mistake for the sake of the plot progression even tho it makes NOFUCKING SENSE" shit they are doing right now... FUCK THIS 😭
HE DID NOT EVEN ASK HER WHAT SHE WILL DO WITH THE RING SO SHE WOULD HAVE TO BULLSHIT HER WAY OUT OF IT SO MAYBE HE WOULD CAUGHT HER IN THE LIE LOL omfg... why are Korean writers like that? Why they always love to drop the writing quality by the end of the drama? 🤡
Also, Mother Sin also kind of pisses me off. I mean when a bitch is literally planning to free supernatural serial killer, there is no place on giving her chances and letting her do her thing coz maybe she will not cross the line. The risk is far too great. Like... Mother Sin is basically as much of a villain as Yeom Hwa is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also... did she steal the baby ghost as her fake deity? But didn't they say you cannot communicate with baby ghost so it would literally not work for her 😅
Bong Su is literally the only one who did something right trying to sent fucking Grim Reaper to Yeom Hwa. At some point the bitch needs to die if she is so fucking against therapy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Well... and this is what happens when YOU DON'T FUCKING COMMUNICATE SHIT 🤣 Just let them all die 🙂
How is he so green in a red drama like that? 😭
💚From previous episode when he stopped himself when he figured out Xiao Shuai was out of it.
💚How he put him into comfy pajamas and prepared clothes for him for the next day
💚The way he was not pushing after what happened, just slightly flirty, but keeping the proper "distance"
💚Bringing him sweets to work coz Docs busy
💚I'm not even mad he followed Doc to the bar, coz it was obviously because he saw how he was in a bad mood and shit might do down bad.
💚 Then when he saw he was drinking WAY too much he stopped him (which I don't give a fuck about "he is a grown ass man so he can decide how much he drinks. If I saw someone I care for and know drink alone that much, I'd step in too).
💚 He took him home and did not try ANYTHING, just took care of him,
💚 HE FUKCING PUT HIS HANDS UP SO DOC CAN PUKE INTO THEM (he did not at the end, but damn he was willing to catch his puke... 😭😭😭 that's love)
💚 again, got him into comfy clean clothes so he can rest.
💚 When Doc was clearly starting to have a bad trip saying he needs to make him apologize, he just hugged him and kept apologizing.
💚 He then prepared him a fucking breakfast for the next day.
💚 He did not tease him like an asshole or belittled him, it was just so fucking domestic.
I AM IN FUCKING LOVE WITH THIS MAN.
AND HE IS SO HOT I WANT TO CRY 🥲
I am so happy you liked it! 🔥 It's one I rewatch every 2 years or so, and it's always as much as as the first time.
Namgoong Min had a number of shitty projects in the past, and then slowly he started to pick better scripts and now I honestly trust his choices and I'd pick a drama just coz he is in it (like Our Movies lol Even tho melodramas are not exactly my genre lol).
Not ever exaggeration and over the top plots are truly makjang. I also differentiate between "low-key fancy makjang" and just makjang. Like The Penthouse is just makjang. SKY Castle is fancy makjang 🤡
especially since it's a common set up for a manga adaptation characters. < yeah this is kind of how I see it and would use the term. Coz with just "cold but actually warm" than it's like 70% of rom-com leads and the term is kind of meaningless 🤡
The definition of makjang google gives me fits my understanding: "a subgenre known for its over-the-top, melodramatic, and often absurd plots, extreme character actions, and high levels of conflict." for me makjang is far end of overdramatization. Like, The Penthouse is a clear case of makjang. I'd say the lack of realism is a big part of it for me - it;s so dramatic, so over the top, shit goes down every few second and each new revelation tops the previous one.
Also, I am pretty sure her dying is not a spoiler. First tag is literally "terminal illness" and the description clearly states the illness in incurable 👍🏻
Namgoong Min’s performance is a masterclass in subtlety and restraint. He imbues Lee Jeha with a stoicism that’s soft and quiet rather than cold < this 💯 Maybe I have a different understanding of "tsundere" - more exaggerated than it should be, but I would not put Je Ha in that category (taking about tags here).
The point is that classic sentiments communicated well can still have a meaningful impact. < this too 💯 I think one of the reasons I stay away from tragic stories now is the fact... they just don't make them the same way. I feel like melodramas now are borderline makjangs - there is no balance, just pain and sometimes it;s just a trauma porn.
because while they had a legitimate purpose, that purpose could have been fulfilled with a bit less focus < again 💯 agree. I also think the romance between the stylist and photography director was unnecessary. They kind of followed the same patterns that leads did, but genres swapped and no illness - she was cynical about love, he was sentimental and believed in it.
this drama does have some annoyingly blatant product placement. > oh god. I was fine with most of it until the fucking hand warmers for the scene between Da Eum and Jae In 🤡 Like damn... I found that scene to be really important and meaningful, but to start it with a fucking PPL? 🙂
thank you for the comment 💖
I mean sure the crushes were there as a consequence of Da Eum, but personally I thought other plotlines were either more important or more interesting and could have used that time instead. And then... one romance is fine. Let the manager and the assistant director be the cute side couple but except for main romance we had 3 relationships going on, and I feel like that's too much.
Also, I agree on the paragraph about Seo Yeong and Jeong U and I would much rather see more of them in depth, by cutting out one of the side romances from the crew. I just don't see how this drama needed 4 separate love lines 🤡
The stylist is to some extent basically a female version of Je Ha in terms of her thoughts on love and how it changes.. her plotline does not really brings anything new to the picture.
I think these two can lead to only one type of an ending.
Tho for me it was more bitter-sweet than tragic
That moment when they were deciding seats and we got a last minute twists was on brand for Mnet tho 🤣
Highlights:
🔥Park Dong Gyu existence
🔥Daegu Chingu - his performance is what we all love about these shows.
🔥Lee Sang Weon's adlib 🤣
🔥Them not really showing the bad performance (except for like 2, but they were also entertaining lol)
🔥How the "kids" aka 15s are ACTUALLY fucking good. Usually the kids are cute and cute only and I want them gone after episode 1. This time it's different.
🔥Yeom Ye Chan/Kim Tae Jo is a comedy goals duet.
Screenshot shows my rankings. Not always matching the judges lol

About why I gave Lee Sang Weon 2 stars... you can REALLY hear they cleaned his voice post production. This like metallic/robotic sound. And here's the thing - it does not even mean he did bad, you cannot fucking tell how he did, you can just hear they fixed whatever imperfections there were. I get they probably did coz they did not want to fuck him over since even if he was good Lee Rion was so fucking great, but now I cannot even judge how well he actually did....
They also did Swi Ching Wi dirty. If it was not for his solo dancing I'd give him 2 stars too. Like they literally showed him only say "oh ah yeah" during the performance - like dude can be tone deaf as far as I know hahaha
Controversial All Star from me: Kang Woo Jin (for the vibes omg love him).
But he was probably one of the most charming and natural on stage. That is his asset. Just as the judges said - it does not matter how much skill you have when you do not have the charm basically to sell it, if you seem too desperate. Kim Geon Wu was that for me - it was a clean and good performance, but damn it was boring because i did not feel like he himsefl even enjoyed performing 🤡
Anyway, cannot wait for the C performances! 🔥
