The drama wasn't about the parents' favoritism. Her childhood sets up Xu Yan's character and who she was. The drama was not about revenge or punishing any characters. It was about making choices and being true to who we are. It shows how the leads grew closer together once they stopped pretending because being true to oneself leads to integrity and happiness. The drama used many scenes to carry this theme which prevailed throughout. Nothing was insignificant in this drama.
