Li Susu's pink dress was my favourite too. She looked so beautiful. I totally understand why that was LYX's favourite.

Novel HE endings mean nothing these days haha.. Both tteotm and the longest promise had happy endings in the novel but open endings in the drama. 😅

So you haven't watched it for yourself and took someone elses word as gospel. Why dont you give it a try and make your own opinion.

I've watched the first four episodes and I think the cast is good

I only say I thought it was temporary because he specifically said "Whenever the Snowy Rosa blooms that means I'm here to visit you" which, I would say indicates that it is only temporary. That he can only come back and visit her when it blooms. (which is once a year?) Which, though bittersweet, actually isn't the worst ending in my opinion.

Is he back for good though? Because he said he'd come back to visit her when the flowers bloom, not that he'd come back for good. I assumed it was temporary? And that it can only happen when in bloom. Still, it's open enough that there are possibilities there I guess.

First four are now available on Youku. I've watched the first episode. Good start. Already liking the leads.

Yeah, it's definitely sad. A lot of us were traumatised by it (still are! haha) Not the ending a lot of us would have preferred. But I do think it was a hopeful open ending if you choose to look at it that way. It hints at the novel's epilogue where he is eventually reborn because part of his immortal essence was saved. In the case of the drama, by the heart-guarding scale.

The original script for the drama actually had Susu and A'Mi meet a reborn TTJ at the banks of the river, but they changed it. Instead going for something more open ended and up for interpretation. But I personally feel the implications are the same.

@Mermaid posted the audio snippet of their reunion which is sweet and might help. There is also a video youku released of LYX and Bai Lu writing letters as their characters. They did them for each era - Ming Ye/Sang Jiu, Tantai Jin/Ye Xiwu, and post final they released the Cang Jiu Min/TTJ and Li Susu one. Li Susu's especially validates the idea that she is still searching for him and waiting for his return. Linking the idea of him being inside the HGS with him possibly returning.

Why do people always have to move into this weird territory.

I think its their daughter and the hope that she'll see him again that keeps her going. The idea that shes searching for him still... waiting. It's the only thing getting her through a very long eternity.

That she always carries a piece of him with her probably helps. 💔😢

I mean, as an actor I'm sure he could pull it off. He's definitely talented enough. It's just not necessarily a role I've ever thought of him in before. Maybe because I've never been a huge Spiderman fan in general haha.

Morpheus/Dream of the Endless (and the entire world of Gaiman's Sandman) is so otherworldly though.... and that kind of style would be perfect for LYX, like @kwanto was saying.

Haha, I'm not sure about Spiderman. But I absolutely agree about Neil Gaimain's The Sandman. After watched the show and reading the books, Luo Yunxi is actually physically perfect for the character of Morpheus. Maybe even more so than Tom Sturridge....

🤣 Well I think it's ridiculous to expect everyone to have the same preferences and opinions over fictional characters. And to say that you have to prefer and root for the ML otherwise it is automatically wrong or forced. You do get how opinions and preferences work right?

How can an opinion or preference be forced if that's how they truly feel? That would be like going up to someone in real life and saying "hey, I know you like and prefer this person but I think your feelings are forced and that you should like this other person instead".

Also ridiculous to assume that those who are feeling second male lead syndrome are just deluded in regards to a ship being endgame. You know you can actually ship something while also knowing it wont end up happening in canon. Not to mention second male lead syndrome doesn't always have anything to do with shipping with the female lead at all. The character doesn't even have to be a good person. It can just be a matter of enjoying and finding the second male lead more interesting to watch than the main lead. Many people had second male lead syndrome with Run Yu in Ashes of Love but didn't ship him with Jinmi. I didn't even know who Luo Yunxi was when I watched that drama and still had major SML Syndrome.

I don't understand why this bothers you. Someone preferring one character over another doesn't change the drama, doesn't take anything away from you nor does it invalidate your opinion or your preference for the ML.

It just sounds like you're salty some people aren't liking the ML.

There have been loads of times I've loved the male lead and my friends have preferred the second male lead and vice versa and that's completely fine. Good even....

You're also still perfectly entitled to prefer the ML over the SML, so again...still not seeing how it's forced.

How is it forcing something that doesn't make sense? As I said in a previous comment. Second Male Lead Syndrome is not some homogenous sensation that everyone feels. It's down to the individual person. Not everyone is going to feel it. It's not even always a matter of shipping, it's often just a matter of liking or being drawn to the second male lead more. You can't say that someone else's opinion or feelings aren't real or are forced just because you don't share them. lol.

Some people are just enjoying Luo Mingxi more than Han Ye atm. There's nothing wrong with that (Just like some people will enjoy Han Ye more) It kind of sounds like you want people to drop the drama just because they're not into the ML. Which seems kind of silly if they're enjoying everything else about it.

How can you say "force feeling sml syndrome when it's not really there".... when second male lead syndrome is a personal feeling that's down to the individual. SML syndrome is not some homogeneous sensation, where every single watcher is going to feel it. Just because you're not feeling it, doesn't mean others aren't. You don't get to decide whether someone's feelings and opinions are real or not just because you don't share them. haha . Some got SML syndrome with Run Yu in Ashes of Love for example, other's absolutely loved Xufeng. Both valid, because it's just personal opinion.

I happen to feel the SML syndrome with this drama. I'm enjoying Luo Mingxi more as a character right now than Han Ye. It's not even about shipping him with the FL either btw. At least not for me. I'm just enjoying the character more. I'm not making myself miserable watching the drama or "forcing" anything. It's just how I feel. and I'm actually enjoying the show for the most part.

You're obviously loving Gong Jun and his character and that's awesome.

It's not even that I necessarily ship him with the FL. I'm just really enjoying that character more than the ML atm. We're all going to be drawn in by different things and that's a good thing. It makes discussion interesting.

I'm enjoying this drama enough that I want to watch more but I'm not feeling anything from the ML.

The second male lead syndrome is strong with this one. I already find him more interesting.

if I'm being honest, I don't think I really believe Immortality will ever come out. But that's just me trying to temper my own expectations so that I don't get disappointed haha.
