While we (hopefully) wait for the drama to be released, is the novel worth reading?
I don’t mind knowing the story in advance but in the past got disappointed with some novels that were adapted into awesome dramas (novels were boring and simplistically written).
I’m also trying to forget that and convince myself of something else… I’d also be happy with some extras that show “oh hey Wei Zhao actually didn’t die” (not a fan of modern life reincarnation second chance though like Goodbye My Princess)
Being a forever Happy Ending fan, I am dropping this drama now until all episodes are aired, if it has a HE and…
I will watch but also reeeeeally feeling worried about the book BE. It actually makes me feel “doomed enemy general of a fallen nation” vibes like Xiang Liu (LYF) 😭😭😭
I suppose the cdrama gods figured I had it easy this year with some of the ultimate green forest MLs and instead…
I have a secret preference for red flag ML because many green flag ML are a bit boring and have an underdeveloped character with little growth… This year however there were some really good ones (Duke Su I’m looking at you).
I actually don’t find Wei Zhao extremely red flag. He wanted to kill the FL multiple times (and also almost did) but I feel it makes sense considering his background story, his responsibilities and his current goal. And - rightly so - the FL does not like him and fears him at first. He is always very straightforward, so far he is hiding things from her and is trying to get her to work for him by blackmailing her but she knows exactly where she stands with him.
On the other hand I find Pei Yan manipulative (pretending to do things for her or care about her feelings but hiding ulterior motives), tricky (gets her to lower her guard on the boat and then we know what happens) and controlling (it becomes really clear in the latest episodes/trailers). So he’s a wolf in sheep clothing, for me definitely more red flag because these types lull you into thinking they are the best but you realize too late how bad for you they are. And then it’s hard to get away.
Ah - of course I’m not saying Wei Zhao is not very violent and cruel at the beginning but I don’t find him cruel just for the sake of cruelty that’s what I‘m saying 😅
Rewatching episode 11, so because she gave you stuff for your wound, you won't release her/give the clay cat back?…
Haha WZ didn’t give the cat back because he heard that she was going to Nanling and he still wanted to take advantage of her (clearly with no success 😅)
Who the hell give it a low rating?are you insane? 😑
Yes the rating as it stands now feels very low for the quality of acting and storyline. I guess the ML and SML behaviors are rubbing people the wrong way. Though I find them more realistic than some other whitewashed characters in these kinds of dramas.
Loved the Empress! Didn’t expect much from her character at the beginning but I really enjoyed seeing her development. Maybe a different kind of strong and cunning from LMT but she still rocks!

With every new episode and the relationship between FL and ML improving, my dread is skyrocketing!
