I agre, it feels very much like a bad ending and a “wishful thinking” of both JL and XH. The extra episode barely made it better but the entire final war was so rushed and nonsensical. Unless they had another 4/5 episodes extra to just focus on the war. Like who was the enemy general and why thy focused so much on his face? It feels as if they had planned for a longer story and just cut it…
