Proof that sincerity beats plot twists
I love going into a drama without reading reviews or forming expectations. Sometimes that gamble pays off. Sometimes it doesn’t. With My Sweet Mobster, it absolutely did. I only wanted something light for a Saturday afternoon; instead, I found myself laughing, giggling, and kicking my feet through all 16 episodes. (˵ ¬ᴗ¬˵)Story
The ML is an ex-mobster with a heart of gold who runs a meat company and hires ex-cons determined to turn over a new leaf. After some misunderstandings, he meets a sweet FL who is a “WeTuber” (read: YouTuber). Through a series of mishaps, she ends up living in his house alongside the sweetest group of thugs you’ll ever meet. They fall in love - and of course, there’s a childhood connection. His past resurfaces, complications follow, and yes, it all works out in the end.
The storyline is undeniably predictable. The childhood connection is obvious early on, the villains rarely surprise you, and the love triangle never truly threatens the main couple. But the predictability works because of the emotional sincerity. The tension doesn’t come from twists; it comes from watching these characters choose kindness, loyalty, and love again and again. Knowing where the story is headed becomes part of its comfort.
At its core, the drama asks: can you really leave your past behind? People talk about rehabilitation, but how many are truly willing to give second chances?
Characters
Seo Ji-hwan and Ko Eun-ha are at the heart of the story. He’s an ex-mobster; she’s a bubbly, optimistic content creator. Reformed bad boys supposedly make the best husbands, and Ji-hwan proves it. He’s selfless to a fault, dropping to his knees for his employees without hesitation. He knows society won’t easily accept him or his brothers, but he keeps trying anyway. All he wants is a decent life for them. His self-awareness makes him push Eun-ha away at first, but eventually he allows himself to want something more.. a family, a future.
Eun-ha is pure ray-of-sunshine energy, the kind of FL you instinctively root for. She apologizes when she’s wrong but never becomes a wilting wallflower. Life knocks her down; she gets back up. This OTP is the drama’s beating heart.
The secondary characters add so much charm. The gang of rough-around-the-edges ex-cons are the kind of brothers every favorite ML deserves. The principled SML, Jang Hyeon-u, is sincere but ultimately never a real threat. Even the secondary romance, though small, adds sweetness. The villains are standard fare - effective, if not groundbreaking.
Performances
This was my first time watching Uhm Tae-goo, and I genuinely don’t know why it took me so long. Ji-hwan isn’t morally grey. In fact, he’s practically shining white, which can sometimes feel boring. But Uhm Tae-goo makes his goodness compelling. He brings out Ji-hwan’s shyness, quiet longing, and uncertainty about whether he deserves Eun-ha. You root for him completely. And yes, I would absolutely wear a T-shirt that says, “I heart Uhm Tae-goo’s raspy voice.” It’s dreamy.
I’ve seen Han Sun-hwa before, but this is the first time I truly loved her performance. She makes Eun-ha bright without being naïve. Even though the character doesn’t have a huge arc, Sun-hwa keeps her from ever feeling one-note.
The supporting cast all deliver solid performances. Not a single scene feels dragged down.
Overall
Yes, it’s predictable. But the execution is warm, sincere, and comforting. I don’t regret spending my Saturday afternoon with these characters. This drama was a hidden delight - and I’m very glad I hit “enter.”

The cycles of history
Set during the latter half of the chaotic Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, Swords into Plowshares endeavors to condense several decades of turmoil into a cohesive story. For the most part, it succeeds as a well-produced historical epic, anchoring the story around a few historical figures - Qian Chu of Wuyue, his wife Sun Taizhen, Zhao Kuangyin of Song and Guo Rong (Chai Rong) of Later Zhou. The first 12 episodes or so are some of my favorite - bold, devastating and moving in its depiction of the wanton slaughter and abuse of the common people as the Central Plains exchanged one ruler for another. There are also moments of human triumph some to arise out of that destruction and usher in a semblance of peace and order. But mankind is fickle, and human nature is not easily overcome. Until the final frame, our main characters face struggle after another in order to bring about a "year of peace."
A few historical figures are unfortunately whitewashed to fit an overall narrative of unifying the lands for peace, but the drama is overall still a respectable attempt to faithfully depict an often overlooked period of Chinese history. The script at its best waxes philosophical regarding varying viewpoints regarding human governance, and its strong use of classical Chinese is a much needed breath of fresh air in this age of idol dramas. It may too dense for some, but the cast deftly bring their characters to life, and one can simply follow their emotional journey fairly well even if much of the detail in the dialogue escapes them.
As a longtime enjoyer of historical dramas - from any country or language - I hope to see more in this vein from C drama land.

Enjoyably Interesting, but Somewhat Standard and Predictable
I placed spoilers at the end of this review.Overall, this was a good series. I mostly enjoyed this because I love reborn for revenge storylines. I just wish the execution was better. The script had a great start, but lost steam towards the end. Although the script is not perfect, it still did a great job setting up the characters and storyline. It started to perfectly weave the different stories together, but this slowly unraveled. Although it was a minor storyline, I felt the romantic storylines was a little weird. However, I liked that many of the characters were complex and not purely good or bad. Many of them had multiple levels and reasonings for their actions. What really saved this series was the entire cast which is a good example why casting is very important. If this had different actors, I probably would have dropped it. This had some other minor negative aspects. This had some very odd background music choices that don’t really fit the scenes. They also didn’t do a great job switching between time differences with the current scene and Lee Han Yeong’s future memories and/or or flashback events.
The last negative aspect is the ending.
******Potential Spoiler Alert******
It took me awhile to warmup to the romantic storyline between Lee Han Yeong and You Se Hui. Even though it seemed out of place, it was actually well written and was not the main focal point of the series. I also like how they used this to give Yoo Se Hui a chance to redeem herself. This is a rare case that I liked a redemption story arc.
This has an ambiguous ending and was a bit of a letdown. They give hints of a possible second season which I’m not sure I would watch.

Be Yourself; Outer Appearances Don't Change the Inner Self
My first impression was the drama was too silly, but I grew to enjoy the nonsense. Later, I was uncomfortable with the FL as it was repeatedly said how kind she was, but her actions were particularly cruel and thoughtless to one person. As the story progressed, I began to appreciate the friendships and ensuing humor, especially of the supporting cast. The message that everyone is uniquely beautiful, though true, was hammered at a bit too hard. Although I appreciated the sentiment, a lighter touch would have been more effective.
The FL had low self-esteem initially, but she sabotaged herself with her attitude, poor grooming, lack of makeup on a face with acne, and wearing a hoodie to a job interview with a company that dealt in fashion. Her "transformation" at the end of the drama was more about confidence and self-love which resulted in proper hygiene and maintenance.
A bouncy OST complemented the drama, and some nice writing delivered well by the actors distinguished this from run of the mill romcoms.
Filter finished well with no long time skips or a loved one leaving the country for a few years to improve themselves. That's a rarity for current romances, it seems! The visuals were a treat. Favorite scenes were the Rainbow Stairway (located in Meijingyuan Town, China: https://www.reddit.com/r/cdramasfans/comments/1j7upwv/behind_the_scenes_the_making_of_the_iconic/), and the ML and FL hiding in a school archive room with thousands of books stacked behind them. I also love when a drama teaches me something new and fantastic. The ML gave the FL a box of Prince Rupert's Drops, a group of tadpole shaped colored glass. PRDs are harder than steel and practically impervious at their bead end, but they are incredibly fragile at the tail-shaped tip. The entire thing can shatter with mere finger pressure. It was a fitting metaphor concerning relationships. For incorporating unique aspects into the drama, my appreciation is given to the creators. As a result, my viewing afterglow reflects a higher rating.

This drama is indeed a piece of art
Well, as the title itself suggests, this story is about a woman, most well known as Sarah Kim and how she has managed to create everything (her persona(s), a very bougie brand and very convincing stories/lies) from nothing in her very own way, which definitely can be described as art.The more you try to dig into her story and past, the more you realize that you know nothing about Sarah Kim. The detective (ML) found that out the hard way!
The story was captivating. It left the viewer questioning everything and everyone every single episode. But towards the very end everything finally started to connect, we finally got the full story of how FL managed to fool us and all the people in the drama. It was genius.
It's worth noting that we actually never find out who she really is or why she doesn't have an identity, but honestly, while it initially left me confused, it didn't take away the charm of this drama for me. I was instead so taken aback by how smart the FL is, how she managed to manipulate so many people at once and used them at perfect times.
Shin Hye Sun once again absolutely killed her role :)

Even I, who don't usually like crime dramas, enjoyed this one
Rest assured that if I enjoyed police dramas, the rating would be much higher, but unfortunately I have a lot of difficulty connecting with investigative plots. What would happen if you were forced to join the police force to escape a criminal? The series is about that, a policewoman and a pastry chef who meet in a police training course for VIP secret service. It's been quite funny seeing Vicky among several trained policewomen, developing her skills. Let's wait and see the next episodes. In addition, the production is very good and the effects are very good too, including the action scenes.

Found it boring.
i dont know if it was just me who thought it was quite boring. also, i liked farm and van’s story better than jerome and jinn’s story. it was quite basic, but i felt jerome & jinn got together too fast. farm & van had better pacing, and also they were just more interesting in my opinion. i know you’re thinking “how can they be more interesting, jerome literally had powers!” i full honesty just found it kinda boring, romance wise. i kinda liked the way some things backfired on him when trying to protect jinn though. but that’s kinda it. i liked the end, and found it kinda interesting. but if im being even more honest, i wasnt a big fan of their acting either. dont know if its just me who doesn’t really like it. i thought surfjava’s acting was good, but theres just something about seakeen’s acting that throws me off. even though its kinda boring its still quite good. Was this review helpful to you?

Correct [6.5/10]
The series is decent but lacks polish. There's a foundation there, certainly, but it's not explored enough, especially in terms of the story and the music. It could be greatly improved!Regarding the story, it's somewhat subjective; the main couple are two brothers, and the secondary character is someone with mental health issues. Ultimately, it comes down to the director's skill and the audience's appreciation of the genre. The story isn't absurd, but it lacks originality (even if it is based on familiar tropes).

A lot of money invested in a very bad story.
The actresses' performances are good, and you can tell a lot of money was invested in the production, as the camera work, colors, costumes, etc., are very good... but the story, which is the most important thing, is very weak. Too much happened in just one episode. Right at the beginning, we were introduced very quickly to Z, and we don't even know what the other protagonist's daily life is like! How did she lose her job? Where are her parents? How did the app come about? How are the points calculated? What did she do to get enough points to have a wish granted? Why isn't everyone talking about this app? After all, it's an app that could prove to humanity that angels exist and that you can make wishes to them. How come nobody is talking about this in the media? Furthermore, who owns this app? Do you understand? So much was ignored to get straight to the main story. Was this review helpful to you?

Great, but slightly boring.
I found this series to be quite boring at first. it didnt really catch my eye and i stopped watching at episode 2. a few days later, i decided to pick it up again, and it turned out to be great! this was also at the time when it was still airing. after the first few episodes, it became quite catchy and good, and i managed to keep up with the episodes that were releasing every week. i liked the way the main couple took their time getting together. i liked their chemistry and acting! especially the chemistry! also love the genres. i dont usually see many scary ghost bls, which was quite fun, but i didnt find it that scary. anyways great bl would recommend! Was this review helpful to you?
One of the worst thing I've ever watched... but that makes it hilarious
You may find odd I gave such a high rating when this drama obviously sucked in every way possible, but let me tell you: it's a masterpiece, but an unintentional one. It was soooo bad it became good, and it kept me laughing every second lmaoooo 😭 The story made 0 sense. I gave up on trying to understand at ep 1. They kept going back and forth between the family and the mafia and fake weddings and vegeance of some sort without elaborating, which ended up feeling really empty. Like I understood globally, but why would you try to make a complex plotline when your total watchtime is around 10 minutes ?Another thing is that they obviously had no budget. It doesn't necessarily make a drama bad if it's well executed but come on, they didn't even have enough money to use a pointy knife ? How can you kill someone with a butter knife ??? They also didn't have money for cheap fake blood either apparently. The cleanest murder on Earth.
Then the acting... which was... interesting. I'm just gonna say it was coherent with the budget and the story that they had 👍
The ending credits were as long if not longer than the whole episodes. Not because they had a lot of names to put, I think they were maybe 15 people max working on this seeing the awful organisation, but because they decided to write the OST's translated lyrics for a whole 3 min. They wanted to hide the fact that the episodes were so short by adding a long OST sequence. It really feels like we're pigeons being given crumbs instead of the whole baguette.
Anyway, this is a true gem and absolute cinema, go watch it if you're having a bad day, it'll immediatly cheer you up and make you laugh until you can't breath. I know that's what it was like for me XD

Great!!! but a little excessive nc scenes?
it was a really good bl, but i personally thought there was a bit excessive nc scenes. it was quite a bit of time ago since i watched it, but if im right, the main leads were cousins? idk i find that a bit weird.although i thought it was a good and catchy series! who doesn’t love a catchy bl. actors were great, although kinn’s eyebrows kinda threw me off (sorry) but his acting was good anyways. also, i thought vegaspete was a bit strange. i didn’t really get why pete went back to the guy that kidnapped and tortured(?) him. anyways its a good series✌️👍

this drama is hot mess!!
it's really hard to rate this drama. even thou it isn't bad the drama itself makes it hard to like it.the pacing is all wrong, the main plot gets lost in the sauce, some characters actions don't make any sense.
basic plot: the entire world inhabited by humans, demon and immortal deyates are after the Yuli springs which grants immortality. in other to access the spring water, one must look for the 8 pieces of a magical mirror.
that's were the story starts and where it ends , but the middle part is a whole mess.
we quickly put aside this mission and get lost in endless "quest focused" episodes.
main observations
The dynamic between characters are forced. The start of this love story doesn't make any sense. The 2 main leads are at best acquaintances but the plot wants to see us they falling in love. If you just skip this step, you'll enjoy the drama even though the actors don't have "couple vibes" but "friends vibes".
Same thing for the soldier guy. His only encounter with Xiao Yao is at the military office where he sees her as scammer. Later in the episodes she just flees away and later we are supposed to believe is respects her as a " kind person".. sorry...but when did this happen?😅
Adding to the strange dynamics between characters, Dali revolting against Xiao Yao doesn't make any sense. The was no foreshadowing of this conflict..it just appeared.
She was the one who volunteer to save the demonic Lord with Xiao Yao...
Ep 20: we are halfway through the drama and the main mission, finding the mirror pieces is on hold... They managed to obtain 2 pieces... Until now there is a lot of side quests but a main fil Rouge is missing. Where is this drama going?
Ep 28: the drama has lost the plot. We make 2 steps forward with the main plot and waste episodes on episodes on side quests. Xiao Yao went back in time to collect the primordial spirit of the demon King... Was are they doing? Solving crimes around town. Side stories no one cares about.
This drama started out with endless people looking for the immortality spring and 3/4 into the stories no one is really talking about it, they collect 2 pieces of the mirror so far. 2 pieces...
Hong he is such a boring character.
Pace is uneven. Everything happens at once or nothing happens at all.
The more the drama progreses the more I dislike the main FL. I get that you love Hong he but she treats everyone else like shit when Hong he is involved.
This drama is basically them falling In love because of "kindness" towards one another and eating noodles.
episode 40:
I am finally done with this drama. man, what a mess.
if would have been better to watch to first 10 episode and the last 10. everything in between is basically filler .
the last 5ish episodes cointain all the important information about this drama and we're still hard to swallow.
the only completely positive thing for me is the cat character. he is just too lovable.
watch this drama only if you have endless patience and don't care about coherence.
