amazing first half just to get dissapointed later
I am genuinely so mad. This show had an amazing start, captivating story, beautiful cinematography, overall was just something completely fresh and new. The first episodes made me so invested, with amazing acting, beautiful scenery and interesting characters - not a single character in this show was a “good character” or so called a “green flag”. A lot of lies, toxicity, while also talking and showing how beautiful and meaningful art is, and talking about a bond between art and an artist. Things started ti get worse in the 2nd half - Jira being a two timer, choosing Koh but still not letting go of Pheem, Pheem needing theraphy, and Koh being an asshole. Later we found out that Koh has been using Jira’s art to train ai - if you find any value in art, you would be disgusted seeing it, as Jira and I were. I thought that the story would end with them parting ways, as they broke up at the end, with everyone going their way. no. Jira went crying to Pheem (again giving him false hope, give this man a break) to help him delete his art feeded to ai, Pheem was unable to do that. At the end, Jira and Koh didn’t talk, didn’t resolve anything, Koh still being a shit person, a capitalist who doesn’t really value art, while Jira despise being a shit person, being the exact opposite - a recipe for a disaster. The show hust ended with them nit resolving anything after a long time of not seeing each other after a breakup, but just having sex. Horrible way to end a show. I know that this show was not the sweetest healthiest show, and was not supposed to be, but I still can’t believe that Jira later just decided to not care about being with someone who doesn’t value art and instead values ai, while being an artist. Was this review helpful to you?
go in without judgement
i rarely write reviews but felt like i had to support this drama a little for the amount of negative reviews i've seen.saw this drama back in 2024 upon release but never felt drawn to it. fast forward to jan 2026, perhaps because i'm getting closer to 30 – which is the average age of the main cast – i was immediately engaged with the story from episode 1. what initially started as a random watch to pass time made me stay up till 4am to watch it. personally, i don't see what other reviews have mentioned about the lack of chemistry between the main male and female leads because i enjoyed watching them together. this drama is a great balance of love, misunderstandings, courage, (mis)communication, comedy and understanding.
without spoiling anything, here are some overarching observations i gathered:
(+)
one thing i enjoyed about all the characters is they are flawed and there is beauty in their flaws. the relationship between the men showed what a healthy friendship rooted in reality could look like. they were quick to acknowledge their mistakes and apologise when necessary, open to communication and being there for one another. overall, the relationship dynamics between all characters just made sense when i think about their respective situations and tried thinking from their pov, whether i personally agree or not. most importantly, i love xiao xiao and ye han together!! they are so cute and perhaps i'm not seeing what others see (the lack of chemistry) because hu yi tian portrayed his love-at-first-sight look very well! i'm not ashamed to say that i have rewatched this (mostly the main couple's scenes) 2-3 times over since i finished the entire 40 eps for the first time.
(-)
on to the not so good, some parts of the script were great, mostly things said by ye han, whereas there were multiple occasions that made me go ??, breaking the mood of the scene by the dialogue. i felt confused because one moment the script seems to be going well and the next, a character says something that doesn't make sense on that situation or conversation topic. i do agree with some critiques that this drama was too long. it could have been better if it was condensed in 24/28/32 eps max! a lot of back and forth, breaking up for the same reasons (especially by the second couple), and with the amount of episodes there were, i did feel that the writing could be better and friction points could be more layered and delved deeper into.
overall, it is a nice, realistic drama (that said, i typically don't gravitate towards realistic dramas unless i'm in THE mood for it so this says a lot), the actors and actresses all did well given the scripting and i personally hope to see hu yi tian and liang jie together in another modern drama.
p.s. i may have had my expectations lowered because i read the negative reviews halfway watching this drama which could have made it a better experience for me. so i'd suggest doing so and forming your own opinion about it instead of being swayed by both the positive and negative reviews!

This deserves a better MDL rating
I'm not sure why this has such a low (7.5 at this time) rating when this is a well-crafted, well-acted, well-produced drama. Maybe people don't like the intertwining of genres (romance and thriller)? But from beginning to end this drama had me enveloped in its eerie world and on the edge of my seat with its suspense.Every facet of the drama contributed to the immersive atmosphere that perfectly supported a supernatural story. The directing cuts and angles during suspenseful parts had me biting my nails. The characters had depth, understandable motives, and believable tension among themselves. The romance was one thread through the story but it had spark and a well-paced build. The styling of characters, the sets--gritty or lavish as the scene required, even the supporting CGI, all work together to make the world addictive. Perhaps to some the pace felt slow, but I felt it was deliberate--mimicking the pace of the characters who have to move warily because the next step could be perilous.
Yes the ending left a few things hanging, perhaps in hopes for a Season Two, and some of the characters we became invested in didn't receive as much time as they should have at the end, but overall it was a satisfying ending that wasn't too abrupt. And the highest praise I can give is to say that--unlike so many cdramas--it didn't lag in the middle but kept its pace throughout all 32 episodes.

Acting Chops!!!
It truly was the acting and tje complex wanna-be artsy story, showing extremely intricate characters, that reeled me in. I wanted to watch their acting as I love Gun's acting beyond anything. He is a marvellous actor and super cute to look at too. That cutie really did play some truly antagonising characters, but his character, Jira, in this show, was so complex and so less understood. The show becomes one of the more mature storylines for me. Not as reckoning as Shine but still, not a fluffy cute drama, and actual story. Dew's acting was too good as well. Plus, I was constantly rooting for PheemJira because Dew's chemistry with Gun was on fire. Shows how great actors they are! I think it deserves a watch. Was this review helpful to you?

Humbled by this tale of hardworking single mother and wheelchair bound military vet
I have always liked Zhen Ni's acting. My friend undead bug aka AuthorAEM told me about this drama. So I decided to watch it on iQIYI. Wow, I enjoyed this drama immensely. What I liked:
1. FL characterisation - I loved her tenacity and resilience. She was a hard worker. I also liked that she was entrepreneurial - she can negotiate.
2. ML characterisation - Full of empathy. A quick thinker.
3. Styling - Loved FL's outfits especially the floral top she wore to the hospital.
4. Supporting character - Loved the aunties when they went against Li family and backed Jiang Nan.
5. Romance - He was smitten from the first sight. Great push and pull dynamics. I could sense the tension and change of dynamics when she gave massages to ML's injured leg.
6. Music - I loved that these songs were featured in the drama: Amelie OST and the instrumental version of The Sound of Silence.
7. Battle of in laws - That battle between ML's mother and grandmother was entertaining.
What I liked:
1. Antagonists - FL's ex Yu Cheng and his family were despicable. The way they treated FL and their daughter were atrocious. Xu Min was pathetic and vicious for her scheming. ML's grandmother & aunty were horrible people.
Favourite scene
When FL realised that she had romantic feelings for ML

Ignore the hate… hear me out
Not every story needs a happy ending. The point of this series was to display different types of love, different ways people love, different endings and truly, the IMPERFECTIONS of love. There were so many different lessons in this series and though series are meant to entertain, I feel that the writers, directors, and actors did a great job communicating through their art the lessons/messages they wanted to while still keeping the audience engaged, entertained, feeling all the feels, and routing for each character.
Many wanted to, and did, drop the series after the tragedy out of protest for not getting the happy ending for that couple. (I get it. Bee and Year deserve thier own series and STAT. Thier acting is incredible.)
But, if you keep watching, the lesson/message is the point. Everyone involved did a wonderful job conveying exactly what was meant to be communicated to the viewers. The mix of happy and unhappy endings proved the imperfections of love, of life, relationships, and choices. It pulls you out of the delulu world of always needing a happy ending and into the reality of our messy world where our choices influence those around us. And sometimes, a wake up call, isn’t always a good one. It took Don’s death to wake Than up and finally communicate.
As the viewer, we “see” every side. When you’re actually living through something like that, it truly does take a wake up call sometimes to snap you out of your own mind and question the conclusions you’ve come to.
This series is clearly aimed at mature minds in the way that BLs are migrating past the typical university setting to explore life in the real where it is messy and imperfect. Every character felt real with thier own story that was explored enough in such a short time and that alone is so rare these days.
You’ll laugh, cry, and your stomach will do the thing, then you’ll laugh and cry again, scream at the screen, cry again, then finally, smile because you got the message. Watch it. You won’t regret it.

No rewatch value to me
I didn't like how they didn't talk about how problematic Mingyu acted next to Jia. I would've wished for them to make him rethink his doing (like following her around and ignoring her boundaries). Because of that I will not rewatch it in the near future.Though, the story itself was nice and the fact that the illness was purely psychosomatic and they had Jonny to talk to and alllll that jazz. Aji 3 saving the Santa Maria Team as family was my highlight ngl. I had pee in my eye there 🥹

Not a comfort watch, and that’s the point
This is a psychological thriller that a lot of people clearly misunderstood.Deep Trap starts as a slow burn, but that pacing is deliberate. The film is about vulnerability and manipulation, not jump scares or spectacle. Once the situation turns, it becomes increasingly claustrophobic and cruel, and the tension comes from how believable the escalation feels.
The couple doesn’t go to the island “for some reason,” despite how some reviews describe it. They’re there because of unresolved trauma after a miscarriage. The husband is psychologically unable to perform with his wife anymore, even though he can still sleep with other women, which only deepens the damage. The retreat is a misguided attempt to fix something already broken. The wife has no real understanding of what she’s walking into, emotionally or otherwise, and that lack of agency is intentional. It’s the foundation the entire horror is built on.
And no, the escalation isn’t “random.” The film is inspired by real crime cases involving manipulation and entrapment, which is why the psychological progression matters more than flashy set pieces. The discomfort comes from how plausible the situation is, not from shock-for-shock’s-sake.
Reducing this setup to “ED problems and a hooker” isn’t critique, it’s what happens when someone misses the premise entirely and then blames the movie for not explaining itself in kindergarten-level dialogue.
One thing is absolutely clear to me after watching this: Ma Dong Seok is scary no matter what role he’s playing.
He plays a psychological killer way too well here, and honestly, I really enjoy him in that role. He’s just as effective as a “good bad guy” or a cop, and most of what he does feels like magic. The only time I didn’t care for him was his professor role in Ashfall, but everything else pulls you in without him even trying.
In Deep Trap, the moment the couple arrives and he first appears on screen, you already know they’re not going to have a good time. He doesn’t need to do anything obvious. His presence alone tells you something is very wrong.
The sexual assault scene is unsettling, not because it’s graphic, but because of how calmly he carries on afterward, as if nothing out of the ordinary happened. The expectation that she’ll simply fall in line and become another Minhee is what makes the character terrifying. His performance isn’t loud or theatrical. It’s invasive, controlled, and quietly predatory.
Yes, there are predictable moments. Of course the car won’t start. Of course they try to steal the truck. Of course someone has to go back into the serial killer’s den to get the key. That’s genre mechanics, not bad writing. Complaining about those moments while missing the psychological setup is like criticizing a true-crime story because events don’t unfold conveniently.
What actually works is that you genuinely don’t know how it’s going to end. Is the husband going to die? Is the wife going to survive but become another Minhee? Are they both going to die? The film never settles into anything comfortable.
A lot of negative reactions seem to come from viewers expecting either a conventional horror movie or something morally reassuring. This film offers neither. The violence and sexual tension aren’t random. They’re tools used to strip the characters of control, which is the entire point. If that feels like “things just happening without reason,” the issue isn’t the film.
And somehow, by the end, the couple’s marriage is stronger than ever, which honestly made me laugh. Trauma-bonded, sure, but it fits the bleak logic of the story.
If you need everything explained out loud, or you’re uncomfortable with films that leave a bad taste on purpose, this probably won’t work for you. But if you actually engage with psychological thrillers instead of flattening them into lazy summaries, this is far better than its rating suggests.

Believe it or not, this was my first ever Kdrama
I had no experience with kdrama, reading subtitles was not natural, and yet this hooked me for 100 episodes! The acting is really good, the family dynamics are fun and dramatic, the romance is slowburn and cute♡This was good enough for me to not only finish all 100 episodes (before i was aware that a mere 16 is standard) but then to also pick up a 2nd kdrama and a 3rd and a 4th...🤗

Decent cliché romcon from Chen Zheng Yang and Yue Yu Ting
I watched this drama last year from Dramaworks before it was take down from youtube. The plot is clichéd since i've seen several similar ones. However, the pairing is quite interesting; Chen Zhengyang and Yue Yuting chemistry were amazing even they didn't have many kisses scene. Yue Yuting nailed both sweet and sassy FL, and she's incredibly cute and it quite rare to see me liking Yue Yuting dramas. ML always has unwavering faith in the FL. Although he married her by accident, he takes responsibility for her, protecting and trusting her. SFL impersonates FL and causes trouble, but her scheme helps the ML and FL, providing some laughs.
The only annoying thing is they don't recognize each other.
Still decent drama to watch.

Snail's pace and straight-laced
Looks guys I really tried, ok. On paper, I should've loved Nirvana in Fire. Political intrigue + costume drama + solid acting = yum yum yum. But unfortunately, I never got pulled in the storyline.None of the main characters provided me with an emotional hook. This was further exacerbated by the plot hinging so much around serving justice for a dead guy who we barely see on-screen. While there were little bits of moral ambiguity sprinkled throughout, I think our protagonist and his allies were just too straight-laced for my liking. Lawful good type characters paired with some incredibly slow pacing meant I had well and truly lost interest in events by halfway through.
Consequently, this ended up being a really good show to put on in the background while at the gym. I could do a whole set and watch the TV during my breaks. My biceps have grown a lot bigger in the time it took me to finish off this series lol

Lack of chemistry and problematic characters
Things I loved1 The premise. I wanted to find out more about the discipline and it had a good start. But that's all it had.
Things I liked
1 The FL. She's a good actress there's no doubt, but it felt like something was missing this time.
Things I disliked
1 Too many to waste time write about them in details. Too long, too many characters, lack of chemistry between the ML, the parents, some of the supporting characters.
2 The ML. He didn't work for me for some reason. I was hopeful at first hat he would be great but it didn't deliver.
3 The lack of romance. Although it's not romance, it still could be better if the leads had any chemistry.
4 Some plots and actions were stupid to say the least, not following any logic.
Things I hated
1 The professor. I don't care how well he knew medicine, he still was a person I didn't like. His behavior toward his wife and his family was far from great and no, being good at something doesn't excuse being a bad human.
2 The way they portrayed women. Like the only thing they have to do is being patient and kind and accept whatever BS the husbands put on their way. No thanks.

Typical lacorn-style over-acting bullshit story...
Again... a series which is bearably watchable... I don't find it cute, while the leads are not from a magazine which makes it marginally better their acting is nothing to write home about...Then we have the questionable plot with forced drama around every corner and too much lipstick which doesn't suit the leads, but that's only my opinion. And of course all characters are very one dimensional without any depth at all.
So, nothing much more to say, then this is the cliché trash I expected it to be. You can watch so many better shows than this.

Some great moments and aspects but not a typical legal drama...
PROS:- Interesting and capturing dynamic between the FL and ML. While the story focus is mainly on the FL and her growing as a person and a lawyer, the story does include a romance line for the FL & ML (explored later in the series).
- Great acting from FL (Xin Zhi Lei) in portraying a character whose motives and actions we can understand
- Some cases that really capture your attention (in the first 16 episodes) with the music making it suspenseful.
- Some really "enjoyable to watch" scenes, including the support of FL from PeiLin and Kang Jun's ex-wife (briefly).
CONS:
- Termed as a legal drama but barely any scenes from court, and I believe at least 3 "cases" involved divorce.
- A lot of "cases" are to do with friends of the FL and Xiao Yun (2nd FL). Even the 3rd FL (PeiLin) and 2nd ML (Xiao Yue) have cases they are personally involved in. This aspect is too far-fetched, and the reason I say it's not a typical legal drama.
- Too much screen time given to flash-backs of the clients, when sometimes completely unnecessary. In the later half, you forget you are even watching a series that has anything to do with the leads or the law because of this.
- Sometimes it becomes a bit "preachy" as to what lesson to take from each case, rather than it being a "natural" talk between the characters.
I watched this drama for Xin Zhi Lei and Lin Yu Shen, so my rating is accordingly higher than the average. Would I recommend the drama? If you are a fan of melodramas, then absolutely, as there are a lot of situations that are "unrealistically dramatic". If you are a fan of the main actors, then I'd say sure give it a try. But whether it meets the standard for what a legal drama should entail, I'd say don't expect too much, as the series explores far more relationship dynamics than it does the law.
