不如放下- it's better to let go
Infuriating and captivating! Shaolin Wendao is a character-driven story exploring complex relationships between four childhood friends as their lives change in extreme ways. An angsty tale of grand passions, forsaken desires and philosophical dilemmas, posing questions about revenge, mercy, atonement and fate as well as the endless cycle of retribution spanning generations. This is an old-school drama in the best sense of the word. It’s highly quotable. It has great atmospheric music and martial arts choreography (not many fighting scenes though). It doesn't shy away from tackling hard truths and bringing up uncomfortable emotions, especially when it comes to the limited choices women had at that time and how men judged their worth. There’s a lot of unrestrained acting that helped bring to life the deeply flawed characters. With this type of drama you get transported to the past because as a 21st century person it's hard to understand the choices they make, which can be very frustrating but also fascinating and unpredictable. I feel like this type of immersive storytelling has become increasingly rare in the last decade.
To be fair, there’s a flip side to it as well. I feel like the director let things get a bit out of hand with overacting at times, particularly with Zhou Yiwei in his unhinged stage. Also, watching these characters persistently make their lives a thousand times more complicated than needed was tiring. The main character is a walking disaster who can be very selfish and manipulative. The villain (who's awesome btw) broke him at the beginning, so for two thirds of the drama he’s completely off-his-rocker, becoming obsessed with vengeance to the point of insanity. He chose the most difficult path and dragged everyone who loved him down with him. Honestly, he was so infuriating at times I wanted to kickdrop him myself, fortunately everyone seemed to do it for me so my blood lust was alleviated.
I have a lot of smaller gripes about camera work, silly humour or the weird (lack of) make-up.
The (non)ending was also quite disappointing, which makes me a bit hesitant to recommend the drama. I guess try it if you’re in the right mood. It may not be your cup of tea but you may surprise yourself.

Amazing romantasy.
Writing this review after my second time watching this cause I love this drama.Honestly I'm usually not a fan of fantasy korean dramas cause I never found watched any that I felt are good, however this drama was an exception for me. I loved it from beginning to end, the journey of Park Shin Hye from how she started as Justitia and slowly learned more about emotions is just amazingly good. The action scenes were also so well done.
I genuinely liked this so much overall that I feel like there's nothing bad to say about it for me. I highly recommend watching this.

burnout syndrome was promised to be messy and it was, kind off. i really liked the series and the elements they portray, but at the end i think they rushed a lot of things so it became even messier and tangled. ten whole episodes weren't enough to convey what the story could possibly mean (i'll probably try to read the full novel later). think koh, for example. his whole character and feelings for jira turned a full 180º in such few minutes i still think he's faking it.
acting wise, the whole cast is one of the best ever put out by a gmmtv show. not a single miss in any scene of any of them. it helped me to get really hooked on the series.

Amazing drama, absolutely loved it.
I adore this drama. Cast, acting, story, everything (except their 2 spirit animals’ looks in their animal form) was amazing. It was literally a never ending cycle of sacrifice and it made me tear up so many times. I love how they changed everything and protected everybody. I do think that Situ Ling didn’t have to go down a bad hill (I’m kinda tired of second MlLs turning evil once the Fl rejects, it’s an overused plot line at this point) and Fuyue deserved better, an actual happy ending not one where she’s pining over her dead love.
Either ways, overall, this was genuinely so good, absolutely worth the watch.

Good movie, just kinda overhyped.
I liked this movie, the plot was really touching and beautiful it just was a little disappointing. I usually don't cry at the movies so I didn't expect to cry on this one. And it didn't happen. I don't know about the japanese version, but this one is just not really that sad, because this whole movie is just about life. Something that can happen to everyone. It's quite iluminating to be honest. It teaches you that you should be happy to remember every moment and enjoy it, because not everyone gets to do it. Also it teaches you that no matter how hard you will try some things you just can't change, because in the end Jaewon dies and Saeyoon only remembers him as a character that was in her life."Scars don't disappear. But the pain doesn't last forever. If everyone is forgetting you little by little then I'll try to remember you little by little." This line is so beautiful, it made me think of other lines in songs that really fit their story for example "If the moon went dark tonight and if it all ended tomorrow, would I be the one on your mind, your mind, your mind? And if it all ended tomorrow, would you be the one on mine?", "Sometimes I just can't believe, You happened.", "And God knows that I am the girl I am because of you, You know I'll always think of you, I'll love you 'til the end of time" and "You're just a stranger I know everything about."
I've never watched anything with Shin Shi-ah, that's why her acting was a nice surprise. I'm really excited for her next projects. She really reminds me of Jisoo and Wonhee when I was looking at her face.
GOOD POINTS
- I really liked Jimin's character, she was really a good friend.
- The scenes before Jaewon's death were really beautiful, even if the movie was happening in the past year it felt really nostalgic.
BAD POINTS
- I don't really like Choo Young-woo's acting, it feels like he always plays the same character. He's good at playing this nonchalant, emotionally closed character because this is the only emotion he can show. Other actors had to work for him to make his emotions visible.
- I feel really disappointed by the fact that we never got to see Saeyoon's past before Jaewon and also how Jaewon's dad felt right after his wife's and his son's death.

A Sweet, Comforting Slice of Life Drama
My Calorie Boy is a warm and heartwarming Chinese slice-of-life drama that feels calm, youthful, and very comforting from start to finish. The story may seem simple at first, but it is told with sincerity and emotional depth, focusing on everyday life, personal growth, and gentle relationships. The acting is natural and believable, making the characters feel relatable rather than exaggerated. One of the strongest points of this drama is how smoothly the romance develops—slow, soft, and realistic, without unnecessary misunderstandings or forced drama. The music fits perfectly with the overall mood and enhances the emotional moments beautifully. Overall, this is an easy and relaxing watch that leaves you with a warm feeling. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys light, sweet dramas with a peaceful atmosphere. Was this review helpful to you?

Moody, Sensual, Messy & Thought-Provoking
When this story starts, it presents itself as social commentary with a side of romance. 10 episodes later, and this is, in fact, romance with a side of social commentary. It is a slower type of romance as a large part of the story is spent on Jira trying to pick between the two men, Pheem and Koh.The Characters
🎨Jira - He's indecisive in the romance department, stringing two men along for far longer than it was necessary IMO. On one hand, there's Pheem. The seemingly good guy, who, according to the synopsis, is physically Jira's type to a T. On the other hand, lies Koh. An unapologetically capitalistic arsehole, who, if you listen to Ing, is Jira's type, personality-wise.
Jira is also an artist down on his luck and broke. He wants to keep doing art in a world that is slowly being taken over by AI. And worse, he now works for a tech bro whose world is AI. He hates the tech bro for his values, which clash with his own. He's also attracted to tech bro but tries to deny it
💻Pheem - The seemingly good guy. While he may look like the better option at first, he wasn't the right choice for multiple reasons, the biggest being that he's fake AF. He only pays attention to what Jira likes because it'll increase the likelihood that Jira will sleep with him. He's also in a one-sided beef with Koh, which didn't do him any favours, if we're being honest.
💼Koh - The unapologetic asshole with debilitating social anxiety. He's unlikable, and I think that's the point. I don't quite think that we, as the audience, are meant to really like him. Only Jira is, and so we like him or give him a chance because Jira likes him. And because, as the story progresses, he changes parts of his life to make space for Jira. Does he become the perfect man? No. But parts of him are softer because of Jira.
Ing & Mawin also made rather interesting side characters and friends to both Jira and Pheem
The Relationships, Specifically the Romances
🌹🥀PheemJira - The chemistry between the characters was undeniable, but they'd have never worked for multiple reasons. Noteably,
1. As previously stated, he's fake - From changing his taste in music to getting that new tattoo on him. He never fell inlove with the things Jira liked enough to make them his own. He simply co-opted them to make himself look good in front of his conquest.
2. He's very pushy, especially in the sex department - All he knew how to do was flirt and insinuate that the two should sleep together. A note I wrote in ep 5 stated as follows 'Almost all their interactions end with him suggesting that they go home together. Jira is sometimes willing n other times doesn't seem into it. Like in ep 5, I feel like he took him home coz Pheem asked. Had he not, I don't think he'd have brought it up.'
3. He never made a good muse - Remember when Jira finally asked him to sit so he could paint him, and the man couldn't do that. He kept moving around and once again, resorted to flirting with Jira. I don't paint, but that seemed disrespectful AF to me.
I was never quite convinced that Pheem loved Jira. Even in that emotional and very well done scene in ep 7 in the rage room. Pheem only seemed to care that he won Jira and Koh lost him. Eventually, in all his scheming and jealousy, he fell in love, but it was too late.
🌹🖥️KohJira - I like to refer to love stories like theirs as 'the heart wants what it wants.' They shouldn't work. Actually, they'd probably thrive better if they went their separate ways and never crossed paths ever again. Yet, they choose to remain together. To try and forge ahead even when their circumstances and even values show that they likely will not work long-term.
Something keeps pulling them together. Such love stories always scratch a very special itch in my brain. I love them. They are human in such an interesting way. It's like they scream at you 'Hey, humans and love aren't black and white. They are very much shades of grey.'
They fall for each other partly in the bickering and partly in the silence. I think that Koh made a more interesting love interest because
1. Jira actually liked him. - I found it most interesting and hilarious how Jira was always so physically unresponsive to Pheem. However, with Koh, the man just needed to look at him, and bro would be hard. Jira would try to transfer those horny feelings to Pheem, but it never worked.
He looked like a ragdoll every time Pheem kissed him. So stiff with little emotion across his face. However, with Koh... Refer to the bedroom scene in ep 1, the painting scene in, I believe, ep 8 in Koh's house with the flowers, and the kiss scene on the rooftop.
2. Koh willingly changes to better suit Jira - Not fully, of course. But where Pheem's changes felt manipulative and held an ulterior motive, Koh felt genuine. And the changes were never extravagant.
Simple things like going to get him from his house coz he knows his commute is long, getting breakfast in the morning when Jira slept over, even if he himself said he never liked breakfast, or even braving that club environment to go get Jira.
All these were sincere, and I think they speak to romance better than a tattoo.
3. A clash in values vs attraction - Koh has the personality of a lemon. He's also a ruthless capitalist who only cares about the bottom line. Jira thinks that everything should be above board and humans should care for each other. Koh is also a pro AI fellow, and Jira is an artist at heart. Jira cares about human-made art, and his main source of income is being threatened by the very thing Koh is pushing for. Bruh, when I heard 'input Jira preset' in ep 9, I died. I simply passed away.
However, despite all this, they continue to be attracted to each other. Jira fell 1st, although he tried to deny it, but Koh fell harder. But Koh doesn't seem quite interested in changing. How the hell does such a relationship survive? I like that their relationship ended on a 'happy for now' note, because honestly, I wonder how they'd survive long-term.
🎭🧑🏻🎨The Social Commentary⚙️👨🏻💻
The story posed an interesting question in the AI vs Human debate. I think once on Twitter, I saw Nunchy say that they weren't really looking to answer if AI was good or not. Whether it should be shunned or remain. Rather, they were asking the audience to ask themselves if and how these two things can co-exist side by side. The story doesn't give us a conclusive answer. If you think about Koh as the 'AI' and Jira as the 'Human', you see them work together, clash, diverge, then come together once more.
They end on an uncertain future at the end of the plot. Can the two truly walk and work side-by-side?
I think this is an interesting and real position that reflects where society and technology are today. You cannot escape AI, no matter how much you want to. While people online are loud and angry about AI, the tech bros are still making strides to incorporate it in everything. Job postings are demanding that applicants have the knowledge and willingness to use AI. Many people are also losing jobs to automation. It's maddening, and a lot of fields feel uncertain, especially the creative ones.
Just like Koh and Jira don't know if they can truly work, neither do we, the general population, know what the future holds
💭Random Thoughts💭
a. Some BL ships work incredibly well in darker, moodier stories, and OffFun are squarely on that list. FirstKhao are another. Both excel in grittier plots that make you think, confront feelings and emotions you'd rather not face, and push the envelope in what human relationships are.
b. I find their (OffGun's) fade-to-black NC scenes rather interesting in the BL landscape. I've watched this ship in 3 stories: Not Me, The Trainee & Burnout Syndrome (I dropped Cooking Crush, so we're not counting that). They always have such good chemistry, and their kissing is so good, but their NC scenes are always so short.
I don't quite follow ships outside of TV shows, so I often wonder if this is something they've chosen for themselves. To always go with fade-to-black scenes. I'm not saying they should adopt the scenes in shows like 'Don't Say No', 'My Stubborn', or the currently airing 'Peach Lover', but I'd like more. Unless they don't want to do it, in which case, I'll respect it
c. I'm glad the show introduced me to Dew both as an artist and an actor. I added 'Mr. Kill' to my 'plan to watchlist' because of him. A show I'd originally ignored since bromance is not my jam

A slo-burn worth investing your time into.
This is one of those shows which seems slow in the beginning but you go through the first 2-3 episodes, it finally picks up the pace and you realise that the show is really about the depth and emotions of different people which are being explored only after their deaths after this person who's supposed to having difficulty understanding social and emotional cues so it's an irony in itself. How this guy can understand people better than the people around the decreased. All the major characters including the main character, his uncle and his neighbour. All of them have shown growth throughout the series. The first grew out of his inability to understand emotions (which doesn't sound scientifically accurate though), the second outgrew his past after learning the truth and moved on from being regretful to accepting. The third one become a confident, protective and more expressive towards his friend cum love interest.

Woah.
Everything about this from start to finish was amazing. The cinematography, the acting, the story. You can really tell that every little detail was carefully crafted, the amount of symbolic messaging that I picked up on was crazy! Maybe it's because I haven't watched a lot of kdramas but I seriously have never seen one that pays so much to detail. The topic of abuse is so heavy and sensitive that I was terrified that they'd misrepresent it somehow but they really went above and beyond my expectations. 10/10, would recommend. Was this review helpful to you?

it should've been a movie
Idea is great, exacution not so much. Is it worth 5 hours of watching? NO. So skip this one. There are sooo many "empty walk" in it. ex. Who needs to watch 3 minutes of female walking thru classroms? Nobody.
It's good that it's not predictable about who's culpit. If it was the movie it would be better cuz they would have to remove all of that empty walk.
Mostly boring.
my review should be longer so .. _________________________________________________________________________________ here it is

When Loners Meet
Shen Zhiheng is a renowned media tycoon cum vampire in Haidong during the republicans era, while Mi Lan is a blind heiress of the Mi Family who had been her mom’s punching bag for 18years. Sick and tired of life, Mi Lan decided to escape the mansion to end it all in an abandoned temple when she stumbled into the gravely injured Shen Zhiheng. Unable to move due to being run over by a car multiple times and shot by pistols and machine guns all over the body after being ambushed by Mr Li, the right hand of Supt Chi of the Haidong military troop, ML implored the blind girl to postpone her suicide and help to get his best friend, Dr Situ Weilian. She agreed, went back to the mansion and endured another beating by her enraged mother before sneaking out again the next morning to find the doctor at the hospital. Amazed by FL’s resourcefulness and tenacity in carrying out his plea despite her blindness, ML decided to look out for her and stop the abuse. Thus starts the bond between century-old vampire bearing a target on his forehead after offending the Haidong military figure, with a young girl seeking warmth and love that she never had since her birth. It’s a fresh take to see vampire theme in cdrama. I commend the idea of meteor stones granting powers to the wielder which explains why Shen would possess such power. The back-story is back in ancient times, a meteor crashed on earth and its stone shards fell into the hands of 3 families which grants them mysterious powers but with downsides. The Mo family holds the hibiscus tree that has the ability to harness the power of the three stones, the Mu Family holds the Illusion stone which grants them the power to lure people into illusions of their own crafts but suffer short life of 30years, while the Wei Family holds the blood stone that gives them supernatural strength and speed at the expense of needing to drink blood to sustain themselves. Wei Qin, Shen’s step mother, was the wielder of the Blood stone 100years ago. Fast forward to current time in the drama, the Mus had stolen the Mos tree and is in search for the blood stone from the Weis as they believed it would lift their family’s blood curse of living only up to 30years. And as Shen Zhiheng was dabbling between handling the threat of Supt Chi who had joined hands with the Mu, finding his long-lost brother who holds the reason for his transformation and saving FL from the abusive household and protecting her from harm for being around him, he found himself being drawn to Mi Lan who was desperately clinging to him.
Kudos to the screenwriter who managed to make the bond between 18y-age-gap actors look so innocent and beautiful. Although Mi Lan was obviously falling head over heels for Shen Zhiheng as he was doing all he could to protect her from all harm, it was amazing that Shen Zhiheng remained courteous and never crossed any boundaries. When they hug, although Mi Lan was acting like she was hugging a lover, Shen looked like he was hugging a younger sister. There was no french kisses like the typical romance drama except for that only one initiated by Mi Lan when Shen was wrongfully detained in jail, purely to let Shen drink her blood for sustenance. That trick was amazing cuz it happened in front of a crowd as Mi Lan was trying to cover the fact that Shen was drinking her blood. Out of this world.
Whenever Shen and Mi had a conversation about their bond, Shen’s dialogue always revolved around family bond instead of lovers. Although he saw Mi Lan as a kin after being alone for 100years and he won’t stop at anything in order to protect her, it never looked like he was rejecting Mi Lan’s shower of love and devotion either. Gao Weiguang was perfect for this role, and he did it amazingly well. I always get turned off when the age gap between an onscreen couple is too wide, and was disappointed to know that Vengo’s co-star was 18 years his junior, but i was left astonished by both the screenwriter and actors because they were so brilliant to showcase this love to be so beautifully mesmerizing.
And my standing ovation to Ouyang Nana for executing Mi Lan’s role to perfection. This is the first time that I saw her, and she left me in awe. It looked like she was doing method acting, which was outstanding for actresses her age. Her depiction of a blind was flawless. Her devotion to Shen also never look cringy (depite the real life age gap). She managed to make it look innocent and heartfelt. Basically she is a very promising actress, it’s a wonder I havent seen her more in other series.
I had to applaud the one who played Mr Li Yingliang a.k.a Xiao Liang too. He was so irritatingly annoying when he kept coming after ML, but also managed to get my sympathy when the motivation for his relentless pursue was revealed. And then had me hate him again when he reverted to being the villain again (after supposedly repenting and begging for Shen’s forgiveness) and then got me feeling sorry again when he was left with no way out. And the way he went was damnnn too unexpectedly heroic. Mr Screenwriter, you did again! Although i dont understand why he was listed as guest role when his scenes had been as much as Situ Weilian’s (or maybe more).
The one who played Situ Weilian is also very talented. From a carefree and innocent character he turned cunning and ruthless, and then innocent again.
OMG the screenwriter was amazing but these actors had definitely given their top notch performance. It’s a wonder why this drama had such a low rating. Even the plot was really not too bad. The actions were well choreographed and the songs, although they were slow and doesnt meet my standard to be added to my running playlist, they were actually great love songs and kinda get stuck in my head. This production is definitely a well done job. I think im gonna find the novel.

Meta and Nostalgic
The show follows Lin Huan'er, a romance coach from 2025 who gets sucked into a cheesy 1999romance novel she was publicly trashing. It's a brilliant set-up because she knows all the tropes ( the 'cold CEO', the misunderstanding, the 'tragic second lead') and tries to use them to finish her 'quest' so she can go home. Moreover, Chen Xingxu and Wang Yuwen have been friends for 16 years in real life, and it shows. Their banter feels natural, and the 'fake drunk' scenes in the early episodes were comedy gold. The production team nailed the late '90s vibe. The pagers, the 'brick' monitors, the oversized suits, and the constant fear of the 'Millennium Bug' (Y2K) add a great layer of authenticity. It's also hilarious watching a modern influencer trying to navigate a world without Wi-Fi or high-speed data.
However, some episodes in the middle felt like they relied too heavily on the 'miscommunication' trope. Like many transmigration dramas, the 'rules' of the book world can feel a bit inconsistent when the plot needs a specific conflict.
In conclusion, My Page in the 90s is a light-hearted rom-com that shifts its tone to a very emotional core ( the bittersweet nature of time and memory), which was well balanced. Ultimately, the show concludes that while you can't 'edit' your past like a page in a book, the connections you make, even in the most unexpected circumstances, are what define your reality. In my opinion, this is one of the strongest transmigration dramas of 2026 because it respects the 90s setting rather than treating it as a gimmick. It's a rare book-travel story that feels like it has actual stakes.

one of the GEM in kdrama
This is NOT a rom com. So if you want to hear 좋아해e요 or watch ML (most of the times) unexpectedly kiss FL and FL is not even supposed to raise her hands to kiss back (or slap the hell out of him), but just stand there as though receiving the most amazing gift she has ever received by the grace of a man, look elsewhere. If not, read on:
I watched Newtopia when I was on I last drops of kdrama love (After that I ran out and still waiting for refill).
But I LOVED newtopia. The synergy between actors, story writers and director is amazing. Even if it's Ji Soo who is supposed to be one of the most prominent idol at the time (even now?) she does not care about looking good in every single shot or sounding great. In fact whenever her voice became little bit hoarse I enjoyed those scenes most because that was her shot; she owned it.
Story writers were brave enough to concentrate on characters as they would behave in absurd situations. If you look at it, there isn't much different going on compared to other zombie apocalypse movies\tv series. But they made it different. It feels different. And although I think they knew this might become hit but fanboys/girls would never say "좋아해요", they didn't care.
Director focused on characters not on visual appeal. It was uncomfortable for some (many?) to watch it he stayed honest. I think he knew he would not get typical 16 episodes or rather he knew he should not have typical 16 episodes. But he made them count.
Kudos to them!
*Of course* where every kdrama ratings start with 7 on IMDB this one has 6.6 because.. read the first line. But I hope kdrama becomes braver and follow suit.
I hope we can come up with "kdrama for lovesick/looksick" tag so that there is no confusion between work of art and trope filled entertainment.
