I knew I wouldn't like it that much, but I watched it since I hate when I don't complete drama I started - and I watched all GMMTV show.

I'm not a big fan of the acting, I find it cringey and bland.
I don't especially like the character - I don't hate them, I just don't care.

The only think I really likde was the music x)

*Disappointed but not surprised SIGH.

PROS: Mark, Tonkla, and Nakan are nice to look at. I enjoyed Nakan's acting, which is why I even gave the show 2 stars.
*spoilers below*
CONS: UUUUUUMMM. Tong is really, really, annoyingly ridiculous. Rolled my eyes so many times. The dialogue was corny and the I could fit a whole tire in the plot holes. HOW tf does neither Tonkla OR Mark(who I expected to have at least a LICK of sense) not think to pull Tonkla off the pole BEFORE trying to heal him.....ridiculous. Chemistry between the main couple was kinda meh, maybe it's because Tong was so irksome, idk. I shipped Nakan and Tonkla more honestly. Even the intimacy scenes felt forced? Idk how to explain it, but it was not giving passion nor yearning.

I don't know how I managed to finish it

I'm gonna start off by saying that if you liked this, good for you. I didn't. Opinions differ. I also don't hate the actors at all, this is no hate to anyone involved in the show or anything.
This is my brutally honest opinion, so be warned.

That being said, I'm actually surprised I managed to finish it. I tried to give it a chance, but I hated every episode.

The plot is like a corny ripoff Twilight; but hey, I like Twilight, so that shouldn't be a problem right?
Wrong. It was just bad. The story was bad, holy mother of god the cgi was BAD, and I couldn't tell if the acting was bad or the characters were just impossibly annoying. The main character Tong pissed me off the entire time, and Mark was lowkey a weirdo. I really just couldn't get into it. The plot point where Mark only caught feelings for Tong because he tasted his blood also never sat right with me.
The chemistry was also nowhere to be found.

I did like the idea of the plot, it seemed pretty interesting if not just a tad cliché, but it was executed horribly.
I also liked the antagonist plot twist. I didn't really see that coming originally. But that might just be because I really wasn't into it.
Lastly, the ending was quite nice. That final sequence was pretty cool and well done compared to the rest of this show. The standards aren't high.

All that being said, if you want an actual good vampire bl, watch ReVamp or My Secret Vampire. Both aren't the best, but they're much better than this disaster.

This show is just a excuse to show Joss shirtless

Maybe it's a bit of a pickle on my part, since I love vampire stories, but the lack of creativity and originality from whoever wrote, adapted and directed this series is noticeable.

The Golden Blood is unfortunately a generic, poorly produced and extremely repetitive series. The narrative had great potential and it's true that the main couple has excellent chemistry but nothing here works.

It's a fun and easy-to-watch series but it's also a series with an obvious script that follows the same old paths. The performances are mostly pretty bad - I believe due to the script and direction - and at no point does it manage to create that sense of danger, suspense and sensuality that they try so hard to evoke with the countless scenes of Mark in his underwear, which is one of the best aspects of this series.

The photography is, without a doubt, one of the worst parts here. It looks like the series was recorded on a iPhone Pocket in 2019 and they forgot how to colorize the images. Everything is bland, lifeless, with overexposed lighting and a really boring shoots.

There is nothing vampiric about the narrative. If you change the word "vampire" to "immortal being" the story is the same.

None of the symbols and mythologies seen in vampire stories appear here. They don't burn when walking in the sun - they even go to the beach in swim trunks -, they don't sleep in a coffin, they don't need an invitation to enter a house, they are not repelled with crucifixes, garlic or holy water. Silver or a wooden stake through the heart are not even mentioned.

The situation is so critical that you can count on the fingers of one hand how many scenes there are of a vampire drinking blood from a human's neck.

Nothing, absolutely nothing here is suitable for a vampire story. What we have are undefined characters who spend the episodes doing the same thing - Thara grumbling about a danger that doesn't exist and talking about protecting the golden blood; Tonkla being forgettable and Nakan repeating the same lines in every episode and doing nothing manacing.

The whole final revelation just destroys the entire narrative. If Nakan wanted to defeat Thara, why didn't he kill Tong when he kidnapped him? If Thara needs the power of the Golden Blood to destroy other vampires and she's already captured several others in the past, why does she need more? All of this just makes this Golden Blood nonsense ridiculous. In the end, the blood isn't that powerful if she's already taken it before and still need more all the time. And why does she want to defeat other vampires? The series doesn't even talk about other vampires or any conflicts between them.

The ending is pure embarrassment and it seems like they simply gave up trying. It's Nakan dying for "his special someone" that we never even saw. It's Tong giving in and then crying for Thara to free him. It's Thara repeating the same speech about wanting to defeat vampires that we never saw. It's the terrible CGI and fight scenes. It's the fact that these are the weakest and easiest vampires to kill that I've ever seen. It's the serum with the golden blood. It's Tong becoming a vampire at the end and NOTHING changing in his life.

One of the few good things here are the kissing scenes and Tonkla's death, which is really moving.

But it lacks all the magic and enchantment that vampire stories carry and the impossible love between two different beings. It lacks the threat, the fear, the difficulties and limitations of being a vampire. It lacks a more interesting and daring aesthetic, an imagery that suits this vampire narrative. It lacks a world construction that shows the conflicts, how these vampires live, how they organize themselves, the role of the corporation in this society. It lacks interest in creating a narrative that escapes this commonplace.

Unfortunately, it is a very flawed and lazy story.

I'm asking you, what chemistry you talking about???

Joss is super handsome, with a perfect body, and Gawin is also very attractive and a very talented actor. But together? Their chemistry just isn’t there. I’m sorry to say this… but I’m disappointed.

Have you seen KinnPorsche, Not Me, Love in the Air, or Cutie Pie? That’s what real chemistry looks like!

The flirting scenes between Mark and Tong were quite good, but after that, every interaction felt forced—especially the kissing and bed scenes.

I was surprised to see Joss had a solo X scene in the bathtub. I actually felt the emotions there, which shows they’re both good actors—but it also made it clear they don’t seem to feel very comfortable with each other.

Can’t, Just Can’t

I placed spoilers at the end of this review.

I have a confession. Vampires is my least favorite section of the horror genre. However, I’ve enjoyed BL series with this type of storyline before which is way I gave this one a shot. It seemed to have a very interesting story concept that reminded me of the Koren BL series “Kissable Lips” due to the “special blood” concept.

This had a very interesting start, but slowly started to slip by the 3rd episode. It was easy to see that the script was rough around the edges by the 4th episode. It did not do a good job explaining many key facts and was constantly changing story ideas. There were times that I felt like I was watching a bunch of random scenes stringed together with no purpose. It was also frustrating because it seemed the screenwriters didn’t know if they wanted this to be a horror or a comedy. The script did not do a good job integrated either component. The 4th episode is also when they decided to introduce too many sound effects and music that didn’t fit the horror genre. They also started creating wasted screen time with unnecessarily long flashbacks. The CGI and special effects were ok considering this is from GMM-TV. It’s not great, but I’ve seen worst.

I just feel sorry for the cast because they all did their best with what they were given. It seemed the screenwriters were hoping that having a good-looking cast would distract the audience from the poorly developed script.

Random Notes:

Sometimes it’s not good to have too many screenwriters because it was very noticeable with this series.

I’m still going to give “Revamp: The Undead Story” a chance. I just hope the script is better than what we received in this one.

The location used for Mark’s house is the same one used for Nawee’s house in “The Tuxedo” series.

The English subtitles on GagaOOLala were ok, but there were sections that did not have any subtitles. However, they did a great job edit out the break credit between the episode sections.

******Potential Spoiler Alert******

I must have nodded off during the first two episodes because I had no idea what the 21 deal was. Exactly what would happen when Tong turned 21?

Average, made me feel sleepy at times

Okay, let’s dive in. The acting overall was pretty mediocre. Honestly, the side characters outshone the main couple by far. I hate to say it, but the leads. especially Jos, often came across as awkward, forced, and dry, which made it hard to feel any real chemistry between them. On the other hand, the supporting cast did a surprisingly good job; maybe their script was easier to work with, maybe not—who knows.

The story felt like one of those that sounds decent on paper, but the execution ended up just… average. The effects were a bit odd, though I can’t really hold that against the production. As the title of my review suggests, this drama was honestly something I’d put on before bed, because it had a way of putting me to sleep.

WHAT THE FUCK (SPOILERS!)

I was waiting for this show with great expectations but from the very first ep I was disappointed. What seemed to be a dark romance between a human with "golden blood" and a vampire-bodyguard turned out to be one of gmm's uni-related, stupid-cute romances just with a "sprinkle" of blood and some extremely bad special effects. The editing was messy, the special effects all over the place, the acting was cringe but not too bad, the directory was weird, zero cinematography. The vibes should have been darker and creepier but what we've got was a bright high school romance kinda looking aesthetic (in a bad way). The plot twist was predictable and charachters started to die here and there for no reason. The romance was not that strong as some say and I may even say that they had really little chemistry. The plot was stupid and all over the place and the characters (except mark I guess) had little to no development. Tong was just annoying at times. Lastly, WHY SO MUCH S*X!?! There are time where those scenes suit the vibe and the tone of the series, and yes they suited this series too, but the timing of them was always so off! What do you mean they are doing it days after Tonkla's funeral! Literally ten minutes after it! And many more off time s*x scenes throughout the series. I also didn't like the lack of a second couple? I thought that Tonkla and Nakan would be the 2nd couple but they weren't at the end and so their whole "build up" /interactions seemed so unnecessary at the end.
The only positive about this series was the soundtrack (fluke really killed it with the opening song!) and the visuals (they are pretty what can we say). But everything else is a no!!!

MID

For me, the show wasn’t really worth the hype I felt it lacked something I can’t really figure out what tho but it was aiit. I just wished the there was more depth behind the story. I wished there were more facial expressions from the actors and I wished the camera qualities were also higher because I felt bored watching it a lot it took me 2 weeks to finish it because I didn’t understand the quality. Not trying to sound like a hater but it could have been a whole lot better but I’m not a writer I’m I🙂

More vampires that don't act like vampires

This was okay. I wish people would stop making vampire stuff if they're not going to go fully into it with the blood sucking and biting. The chemistry between the main two was okay but not the best. Same with their kissing/spicy scenes, they were just mid. None of the characters were super enjoyable either and the big twist was super predictable.

Before I write this review I wanna mention that I don't support Joss. This is a personal decision. I don't care if you do support him or not but I do wanna let you guys know I don't, although this does not change the way I see the series. Neo and Aj are in this series so that makes it way better and I also like Gawin. This review is made after watching it a second time btw!!

What I like about Neo and Aj is that their characters are always these type's and I love it. Neo's characters is always chaotic and 'stupid' which I loveeeee about Neo and Aj (and his twin JJ aswell) are always these chaotic by standing characters who just want love and third wheel. I feel soooo bad for Tonkla and fucking Tong was NOT nice to him. Like yes he liked him but Tong was way too busy with his own stuff. I feel like Tonkla and Nankan would've been a couple if.. yk.

To be very honest I do not like miss Nuan atall. She was nice and her actions weren't that bad but like she still didn't treat Tong the same way as the others and it clearly affected Tong.

The fx effects were good but the 3d art was horrible, like the spider and the butterfly. Did gmmtv not have the budget? Was it done with a reason? STOP THE GUITAR SCENE'S IM SICK OF THEM!!!

Had to laugh because I recognise the house hahahah (from love in the air and some other series). Tong did not need to ignore Mark so much. It was quite confusing why he kept having feelings on and off. Like it genuinely irritated me. Never did I fully trust Thara, she was acting sooo Sus

Them adopting kids is so cute wish they had given us more content of it. Anyways 1

Fun storyline and campy vfx

I really like where this is going!! It's unfortunately removed from youtube, so rn I'm trying to decide if I can afford to drop ten dollars on a gaga subscription to watch it :( I really really like it, though! Great storyline, I'm enjoying all the nods to other vampire media and the fun, campy style of the whole thing. It makes me think of an old vampire movie or telenovella, I like how comforting it is.
