A Decent Effort

A typical love story revolving around the vampire lore. It's not anything extraordinary plot-wise, but it does have a beautiful aesthetic, with scraps of gothic elements and some very interesting musical choices, that add a more dramatic tone to the series, aligning well with the overall theme. If there's is one thing I feel was missing, it was the proper exploration of the vampire world. This show focuses mostly on the romantic aspect, without delving deeply into the supernatural part, resulting to a weak world-building.

Regarding the acting, it was my favourite part of the series. Joss and Gawin as the main leads, did a really good job portraying their characters and showed a great chemistry. For me, this was Joss's best role so far -- he was magnificent.

I do recommend this series to people who enjoy vampire stories or supernatural elements in general. It's a nice series to watch!

1st outing with BL couple Joss and Gawin

Disclaimer

What I am writing here are my views and thoughts about this series. Some of you may not like it. That does not give you the right to try to come at me with your opinions on why this series should get a higher or lower score and why it is better/worse than I think it is. You have your own opinions, and I have mine. Kindly respect that.

Okay! So, of course I wanted to watch this series because I love watching series/movies with vampires—where sometimes it's done properly and other times it's not. I am a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Series as well as The Vampire Diaries. I have watched Interview With a Vampire (the series and the movie), Buffy the Vampire Series (the movie), Angel, the Underworld movie franchise, and The Originals, just to name a few. So, this series got me a bit excited as it was my first Thai vampire series that I was going to watch, and it was a BL!

Now, I must admit that it did start off well for me personally. But then, it kind of dwindles a bit when Tong and Mark get together. However, it got interesting and better for me by episode 9, with a strong episode 10 , followed by episode 11 having me on the edge of my seat, only to be kind of let down in episode 12. I know that people find it a perfect and good ending. But, to me, personally, I felt underwhelmed. And this has happened many times with GMMTV series and me.

This series did have its pros and cons, and that's why I gave it the rating of 8.5/10 due to these reasons.

Pros:
💕Joss being shirtless in many (if not all) of the episodes
💕The chemistry between Joss and Gawin is just top-notch, and I cannot wait to see them in their next series together
💕For you to loose my attention and then just drag it back from episodes 9 to 11 and some parts of 12, yeah, your good
💕The storyline was easy for me to follow and it kept my attention (for most of the times)

Cons:
💔I felt that some of the deaths were not really necessary (Tonkla, Nakan, and (especially) Wan)—I know that they would add emotions for the other characters, but I still don't see the need for them.
💔Having watched so many vampire series/movies, it really did not cross any of their minds that another option for Tong was to turn into a vampire instead of killing him? Because that was the first thing I kept thinking to myself when they kept insisting that they had to kill Tong
💔 The ending felt (of course) kind of rushed to me. But hey, Tong and Mark got their happy ending at the cost of other people's/vampires' lives.

All in all, a very good series with an excellent introduction to us viewers to this new BL couple, Joss and Gawin.

Low Budget, High Chemistry: The BL That Broke My Brain (and My Standards)

Yes, I know this series didn’t have a high budget. It was campy. The script was giving fanfiction written at 2AM. The plot? Confused. Lost. Maybe on holiday.

But hear me out: this is a perfect example of when acting shines, chemistry sizzles, and yes, they’re all ridiculously good-looking. I am superficial. Fight me 🥊✨

Now let’s dive into The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Buckle up.

🌟 The Good:
Honestly, I adored the entire cast. I’m not usually into “shipping” characters (I lie), but Joss and Gawin did something to me spiritually, emotionally, hormonally. I didn’t want the series to end. In fact, I need seventeen more BLs with them. cue that meme “Fantastic, I want 17 of those!”

Special shoutout to the actor who played Nakan. Started off wanting to yeet him into the sun, ended up whispering “you’re the real MVP” by the finale. We love a redemption arc.

And RIP to Aunty Nan, the queen who appeared for 1% of the show but gave 100% Oscar-worthy energy. A legend. Gone too soon.

Now let’s talk about Mother Thara – aka Vampire Mother Theresa. The villainess who wore white instead of black like, “Oh I’m not evil, I just look like a candle at a funeral.” Ma’am, you weren’t fooling anyone. But you were iconic.

Mark and Tong? Soulmates. And that surprise Pride and Prejudice moment? The range! Their English was flawless. I’m pretty sure they have secret Oxford degrees. Honestly, being bilingual is such a flex. (Yes, I speak two languages too, not me casually flexing lmao.)

😬 The Bad:
Okay, look. The actor playing Tong definitely did not look 20. But his mannerisms sold it, so I suspended disbelief and vibes-only’d through it.

Also, Mark was shirtless in every single episode. Why is this in the "bad" section? Because it was BAD for my health. I was weak. I was unwell. I needed the next episode of My Golden Blood like oxygen. Honestly, I’ve never simped harder. Joss is in a league of his own. He’s not just hot and he’s artistically sculpted.

😵 The Ugly:
Let’s be real. That script was on something. The plot was like a drunk GPS, every now and then it made sense, but most of the time I was like “where are we going???”

I get that they were aiming for camp, and the budget said “we can’t help you,” but they still managed to pull off something. And for that? I clap.

Now, the background music? Absolutely criminal. Upbeat pop during serious moments? Ma’am, this is a funeral scene, not a TikTok dance. So I took matters into my own hands and muted the show and curated my own playlist like a true genius. 🎧

Domino Dancing by Pet Shop Boys – perfection for Episode 6.

Fire for You by Cannons – peak drama for the finale.

Up All Night by Cannons – I was, thanks to them.

Yes, I rewatched Episode 6 more times than is healthy. No, I don’t regret it.

💖 Final Thoughts:
Despite the chaos, the plot holes, the rogue music editor (cause what was the background music💀) —I gave it an 8/10. Realistically? It’s more like a 3 or 4, but Joss and Gawin carried this series like Olympic champions. They earned at least 6 points just for breathing on screen. The rest is sprinkled generously for all the small but mighty moments that made it fun.

So go ahead and watch it. Ignore the hate. Watch it for the chemistry, the drama, the unintentional comedy, and the sheer audacity of that plot. Who knows? You might end up loving it too.

A Chaotic, Cheesy Delight

I can't help but liken My Golden Blood to a gas station hot counter meal during a long road trip, unexpected, questionable in quality, yet somehow exactly what I needed.

This Thai BL vampire drama attempts to mix melodrama, romance, and supernatural chaos that will either work for your inner teenage goth. or leave you laughing yourself out of your seat at those who did enjoy it.

It deals with a vampire gaining emotions in a very high school disney kind of way but I'm glad that Tong and Mark at least can discuss their feelings with each other without dragging the drama out for episodes.

The plot is predictable, the CGI is .....well, .... hats off to the intern valiantly battling the special effects alone. Bless them. The vision was there, even if the budget was not. But despite all that, I found it wildly entertaining.

JossGawin’s chemistry is a highlight. Not necessarily in the smoldering, tension filled way but in how comfortable they seem together. Their bond feels genuine and that emotional connection carries the show even when the script stumbles. The romance is sweet and takes centre stage throughout the show. The drama is cheesy melodramatic and the pacing is a little jumpy. I feel like there were important scenes missing.

It could have been a groundbreaking new supernatural BL but gmmtv seemed to just not want to put money into it. However, it still manages to deliver a fun, emotional, and oddly healing experience.

If all that fails to work, the production crew were highly aware of how much Joss invests into his boxer bod, and likes to remind us for a good portion of the show. Joss and his little blue speedos, strutting down the beach, was a bold fashion statement for some, a feast for others, or left you wondering how crushed his boys were looking, like me LOL

If you’re looking for prestige television, this isn’t it. But if you’re in the mood for a show that embraces its own absurdity and lets you revel in the ride, My Golden Blood is worth the watch.

A proper bl vampire story, yes!

I for one enjoyed this series. Not like the other bl vampire series that shall not be named. That wasn't a BL, that was a comedy, a very bad one at that.
Now this had a story, some blood and gore, lotsa love, and the struggle of a vampire now starting to feel love. And a human that must trust this cold blooded vampire.
I personally loved the story. Don't see why Tongkla and Narkan had to die though.
They should maybe have been the second couple 🤔
Tongkla could have saved Narkan too or made him maybe human to add a spin to it or something.
The ending... I loved the upside down hanging off the Eiffell tower. Overall, definitely for me a good watch. I loved it a lot. And even the sex scenes, it wasn't porn, but love.

It’s just a big NO

For a company that makes money, making such a series is a crime. The story is good, really good. I love story about vampire ( I Watch so many Times the moovie Twilight). But that series is a big NO. when I see special effect, I was like «😬». You make money and you drop this ? just Nooooooo. The acting of Joss and Gawin. Noooooo. episode 11 when Mark came back ? the hug ? no emotions. it was just cringy. company with less money… make better than this. Quality is better than quantity. GMMTV, if you make 3 series for years and these series are good with good acting, good story and good special effect is better than 70 series with bad acting, bad story and bad special effect.

Nothing to say but Masterpiece

The beginning of this show was abit overwhemibg for me because it was different from what i had expected.
Expected it to be really dark, so many action scenes and very bad ass. And it ended up being the opposite of what i expected.
It was really good despite what i had initially expected the story is so amazing and the chemistry between the main leads is very beautiful. This show is a 10/10. It deserves the best

My Golden Blood: A Missed Opportunity for a Promising Pair

I came into My Golden Blood with genuine curiosity, especially knowing it marked the debut of Josh and Gawin under GMMTV. Unfortunately, while the potential was there, the final product didn’t quite deliver.

Acting-wise, Gawin clearly carried more weight—he was consistently more grounded and expressive in his performance. Josh, though visually fitting for the role, often lagged a few steps behind in terms of emotional depth and delivery. Their chemistry had flashes of connection, but not enough consistency to sustain the emotional beats the story aimed for.

The special effects? Sometimes unintentionally funny. They pulled me out of the already shaky narrative rather than enhancing it.

As for the storyline—this is where things really fell apart for me. I understand taste is subjective, but this plot desperately needed a full rewrite. The premise had room to be something fun or even heartfelt, but the execution was superficial and lacking coherence. I struggled to feel any real emotional tension, angst, or even investment in the main relationship. Nothing really hooked me.

That said, Thara’s actress was a pleasant surprise. She brought nuance and energy to a role that could’ve easily been forgettable. Kudos to her.

In the end, I hoped for a stronger first outing from JoshGawin under the GMMTV umbrella. Let’s be frank—almost any story could have been a better debut vehicle than this one. Here’s to better scripts and stronger direction in the future. The actors deserve it.

Damn...I'm already reeling from all that HAWTNESSS!!!

This show is going to be my undoing by bringing out the absolutely-disgusting-ravenous smuthound in me....even if the story and everything else falls through, I will turn up to just watch Joss and Gawin ...I mean the plot-holes in this one is more like a whole window, but who is to complain when the 'view' is so damn fine....:D

BL-needle score: 9. Very High BL-ness

NGL....I would watch anything with Gawin in it...and was waiting a looooong time for him in a lead role, so there.....now, did I ever think that I will be drooling over another man with Gavin in the same frame? - NOPE....but boy! was I wrong!!!!Joss is like IMMEASURABLY HAWWT!!!!

The story is quite tantalising so far, even if a tad too 'fantastic'...but hey! what do you expect from a Vampire show if not fantasy!!! lol....and frankly, I don't really think this show will run on the story...because it needs nothing beyond the combined hotness of Joss and Gawin to run full-steam right till the end....phew!!

Should you watch it???..erm...do you absolutely despise shows that run on the leads' chemistry alone? If Yes, then No, you shouldn't watch this...but if you are part of the rest of the universe that doesn't belong to that set...then YES....

Just watch it for Joss and Gawin...there, I said it! :P

Disappointed

The drama was announced in December of 2023 i think and I was so excited because of gawin he was getting a better role...the plot looked so interesting and everything seemed perfect but when it aired even the first episode was so low effort... almost 9 episodes down and it's still as bad as it can get... just shirtless dudes...no plot... terrible acting...I think joss should stick with whatever he was doing before this... because it isn't his Cup of tea...gawin gets so unlucky everytime...my man deserves better...he needs a better partner lol....what is wrong with gmm...the one i liked him with was first but he's better with khao...also i don't know why people will defend a show that is so low effort like if you don't criticise it now... they'll continue with a grain worth of efforts in every drama ....and make easy money with all those shitty sponsorships lol.
Also whats with writer/ director turned the so called "bottoms" into this fairy Princess who can't protect or defend themselves unless a man "the top" comes to rescue like please give them some common sense and a back bone... he's like the bollywood heroine in the 90s era who needs protection at every step they take...like dude what is this...also the side characters are not even interesting enough to keep watching this drama... killing tonkla was so boring...and the supposed villians are not villainy enough.
I know it's an angry rant because i really really wanted this to be good.

boring

I was expecting a different kind of story, even though I shouldn't have expected anything, especially from Gmmtv. Where are the killer vampires? The creatures of the night?
It was far from the kind of vampire story I wanted to see.
The performances were as lazy as ever.
Very bad special effects.
In the end, it's a story like any other set in a school or college. It would be much more interesting to have a relevant villain getting in the way of the protagonists, with a very boring end result..

Unfortunately infuriating

[I will tag where the spoilers begin]

What can I even say about this show. A vampire plot that lacks any real vampire aspects, special effects that were laughable at best, and a script that was missing any kind of depth all rolled up into one show. The acting unfortunately fell flat, and I don't know whether to blame the lack of chemistry between the actors, the script writing, or the directing but I think I could blame all three if I wanted to. Every episode of this show made me more upset than the last, even though I kept trying to see if it would get good. All I wanted was some classic vampire romance - the fear of being bitten, the tension in a kiss scene, broken trust because of a vampire's true desire - and instead I got a college basketball tournament, a half-baked evil vampire, and a relationship lacking any real tension. I really hope that the fault lies in the crew and not the cast - I wanted to like JossGawin, but truly could not get invested in them as a couple during this show.

Tong (Gawin) has been raised in an orphanage. When he goes off to college, he ends up helping his friend at a job, where he unknowingly works with a bunch of vampires. It is quickly revealed that he has golden blood, irresistible to vampires because of the special powers it gives them. Mark (Joss) is a vampire tasked with protecting Tong from other vampires, but soon their relationship becomes more than that of a bodyguard.

*Spoilers start here*

I truly don't know how they went SO WRONG with this plot. I can get over bad special effects or clunky dialogue, but oh my god this show was actually infuriating. You're telling me Tong gets attacked by Mark because of his blood and this causes ZERO issues with their relationship? There was no real conflicts besides the whole "does he love me or does he just love my blood" which wasn't even well thought out! And then Neo's character dying out of nowhere, without any kind of "let's turn him into a vampire to save him"??? That's the oldest plot in the book!! Why was the basketball tournament so important in a VAMPIRE SHOW??? I really think there was no need to set this show in college - it adds nothing to the actual plot and instead just feels like an excuse for GMM to reuse one of the sets they've used before. Mond played the only character that I actually liked, because at least he was INTERESTING! Joss and Gawin really gave me nothing to work with here. They were always crammed in a tiny bathtub together, or Gawin was staring at Joss shirtless (which, I get it, but why is he shirtless THAT often), and somehow they STILL didn't have chemistry. I was hoping that at least during the makeout scenes when there wasn't any awkward dialogue that the relationship would have some tension, but somehow that STILL fell flat. Even the "twist" in the real villain was predictable from episode one.

This one just fell SO flat for me. While there wasn't any one thing that made it bad, the combo of a lot of small things made this show hard to watch. I really wanted to like it, especially because I think vampire plots are super cool, but I just can't recommend this to anyone.
