A fun vampire tale

Let me start out by saying I really enjoyed the series. The special effects were cute The chemistry was great The actors were amazing. Doctors had great chemistry and played the part very well Love the vampire special effects they were very unique and fun to watch you can't say even cheesy at times. I was sad that some of my favorite characters died. I did love the whole villain was morally gray and that the person we believed was good was always bad and the series has a lot of twist and turns in the story. There's a lot of fluff as well I think a little over fluffy at times but it was cute for the most part. The ending was probably a lot to handle. The only road disappointment for me was tong being a little overdramatic at times out of character that didn't fit the scene. There were times that he was a strong character and then other times at the end particularly when he's like I don't want to die which became kind of a lame thing for him when he was so head strong in the beginning, I wish the series stayed stronger to the tong we met in the beginning, he personalities kept switching off and on between over lovey dovey sacrifice to being willing to actually fight and do what it takes to survive. But overall I did enjoy and like the storyline and the actors very much.

this was insane

when i first started this series i wasnt expecting anything tbh because of the vampire plot curse. it is basically a curse that any series that include vampires are bound to be bad it can be the acting the script writing or overall composition. but this i would say this was absolutely beautiful with the progression the plot overall acting the plot twists i was so into it. it might be the only bl series that had plot twists that unpredictable. i predicted some of them yes but the other ones i was so shocked while watching. and also about acting joss was the ultimate best choice for this role i cant imagine another person as mark. and jossgawin omg they have so much chemistry god i loved watching this. the acting was also fantastic like OMGGG no one can match my freak right now im so obsessed with the couple and the series. jossgawin has risen to the number one spot for my favorite cp. was there some parts that disappointed me yes but it was just the vfx in some parts i was actually so gasped when i first saw the vfx it was so much better than some of the series i watched while i was expecting something that is much much worse. it was just in some parts of vfx that looked funny to me but i think those moment were so insignificant that i dont even remember. im just glad that the tacky parts of vfx wasnt in any of the emotional scenes cuz that would have been a deal breaker for me i dont like to laugh at emotional scenes. also talking about emotional scenes omg the actinggggg all of them were so full of emotion that i felt truly overwhelmed in a good way. like i literally felt so sad sometimes that i had to pause the episode. was the production that good I DONT KNOW but they got me good guys icl. it maybe wasnt the best for some people but I LOVED IT i think its definitely worth watching.

Mark and his Golden Blood donor

I wasn't feeling it. There was so much wrong with episodes 1-5 that had me searching every person who was involved. From the director, production team, actors, and the two kids. What in the bl black hole was this? Nope. We waited too long for this. I did not sign up for this. Joss and Garwin were to bring Mark and Tong to life. Who doesn't like a series led by a good-looking vampire. I apologize. A gorgeously handsome vampire. Let's begin.

Three things were missing. A little gloom, suspense, and copious amounts of blood. You know, the things vampires are known for. Speed, mind reading, and biting a few necks. Well, the director probably wasn't having it. Gloom, non-existent. For people who were supposed to be protecting the golden blood, Tong sure was out and about a lot. Like he wasn't hard to track. Find Mark, and you will find him. Suspense, when the little girl was creepy crawling with the knife to kill Tong, I said finally. Less than 2 minutes, and that's it. Mark to the rescue. The most amount of blood seen was when Kla died and the junior vampire in episode 1. Jnr vamp nailed it. I was getting hopeful when he appeared because nobody was going to convince me that there wasn't room in the budget for better cgi. Joss writhing in electrical pain from a taste of the sacred golden blood had me chuckling. They probably used the same company that did Daou's midnight tremors in Century of Love. Those electrical shocks looked familiar. Then, if that wasn't bad enough, Mark had to save him by going through the glass on the upper floor while holding Tong as they descended to his car. It was so visually depressing. It would have been so much better had they been shown fleeing and then appearing in the car. I get it, budget. The pacing was erratic. The beginning didn't set the tone, whether it were a drama or a rom com. Neo's acting was oddly off. Like he couldn't find the rhythm of his character. He was just there. Voicing his part and going through the motions. When he died, he was probably relieved at that point. Gawin's screwed up face made him look more childish than a 20 year old man. The camera panned away to a far-off look with good reason. Two of them just there looking at an impaled Kla was not good. Also, does Gawin know that self care is important as an actor? An overgrown armpit in one scene and a very rough leg in the first nc scene. Razors are cheap.

What kept me watching? Joss. Joss in his whities. Joss in his blueies. Joss stripped down bare chested. Joss's superior look and constant frowning. I kept vacilitating between ogling and cringing. The director knew that they needed help big time, so him being half naked the most was expected. When Mark said, "If it looks good, why hide it?" Assignment understood.

Then, between 7 and 12, magic happened. The story started coming together, and the real action began. The true enemies revealed themselves, and the plot was finally realized. Special mention of their conversation and Mark fulfilling Tong's request was one of the most beautiful deliveries and emotionally charged scenes in all of Thai history. By the time Tong said, "I do." I was crying buckets. Their connection had ripened to that poignant moment. What a moment! What Joss and Gawin share can not be classed as chemistry. It goes beyond that, and in that moment, it was felt.

I'm not going to gloss over all that wasn't right with the production. The graphics, at times the weak script, Joss's bland acting, Neo's unnaturally bad acting, and the worst fighting scenes in all of vampiredom. When Joss entered through the window, shirtless and bruised, I couldn't contain my laughter. Like he was strong enough to fly, obviously shirtless for impact, but on landing was so drained he had to be held. When Thara descended from the upper floor with one leg bent, yes, another cringe moment. What were the entire team thinking. I'd probably do the same thing because at that point, there was no other way to mess it up. It was what it was.

The writing had flaws, but I will agree with the ending. The culmination of everyone's forever was apt. I was happy to see the fate of Nakhan. Yes, Tonkla died, but Nakhan also had been living in a shell that he too sought release to be with the one he loved. The all seeing Thara not seeing her own demise was perfect. The acting, for the most part, was good enough to keep me watching. Gawin's facial expressions changed over time, and in the end, he was the one who brought the show together.

I recommend seeing it but don't compare it to foreign productions if you are to enjoy it.

very boring

When it comes to vampire series, what do you expect? Good special effects, action scenes, vampires that scare you, blood, the protagonist fighting evil vampires ...

But then you remember that it's a BL from gmmtv...

Ridiculous special effects and I didn't expect Holiwood but BL The sign a smaller company ( did a great job in terms of special effects ...

The story was a snooze, it felt like those boring school BLs, and the performances were bad.In my opinion, there is a lack of investment in these BL series.

boring

I was expecting a different kind of story, even though I shouldn't have expected anything, especially from Gmmtv. Where are the killer vampires? The creatures of the night?
It was far from the kind of vampire story I wanted to see.
The performances were as lazy as ever.
Very bad special effects.
In the end, it's a story like any other set in a school or college. It would be much more interesting to have a relevant villain getting in the way of the protagonists, with a very boring end result..

Unexpectedly Addicted to My Golden Blood

I honestly didn’t expect to get this hooked, but here I am—obsessed. The story pulls you in right away with this cool fantasy vibe, but it’s the emotions and characters that really got me. Mark (Joss) as a 200-year-old vampire? Mysterious, broody, and somehow still super lovable. And Fluke as Tong? He’s just so easy to root for—sweet, brave, and with blood that literally changes everything.

Their chemistry felt natural and deep, and I loved how the show balanced the romance with darker, suspenseful moments. There’s drama, there’s tenderness, and even though it’s a vampire story, it never feels over-the-top. It’s just... captivating.

Also, the visuals and music? So on point. Every episode had that polished, cinematic look, and the soundtrack fit perfectly. (I’ve already added “Closer” and “Just You” to my playlist).

If you're into BL with a twist, or you just want something different and emotional, I 100% recommend giving My Golden Blood a try. It’s got heart, tension, and moments that’ll stick with you.

excellent visuals, nonsense writing

Overall: I can accept and enjoy vampires, aliens, etc but the world building and writing still needs to be consistent and make sense or it breaks the fantasy for me. 12 episodes about 50 minutes each. Aired on GagaOOLala (available in the U.S., U.K, Australia & Germany) https://www.gagaoolala.com/en/videos/5176/my-golden-blood-2025-e01 ; iQIYI https://www.iq.com/play/my-golden-blood-episode-1-15i43kuok94?lang=en_us ; GMMTV's YouTube Channel https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLszepnkojZI6dCriKkjM96prEY5v2Nhtu&si=_TzfUsEzmPpPs7Jw (not available in SE Asia and countries covered by GagaOOLala). All 3 platforms appear to be the same length.

Content Warnings: past and current murders, blood, stalking, intimate partner abuse, held against will, manipulation, age gap, kidnapping, fights/violence, grief, torture

Watch Suggestions (to focus on sweet/steamy moments with the MLs)
- read the synopsis and watch episode 1
- skip episodes 2 and 3
- episode 4 watch 23-24:30 and 43-end
- episode 5 watch 40:45-end
- watch episode 6
- episode 7 watch beginning to 6:20 or can watch all
- episode 8 skip 12:30-20:15 or could even start at 49 and watch to the end
- stop episode 9 at 35 minutes (they missed out on what could have been a fantastic side couple/redemption arc imo)
- episode 10 watch 15:30-15:55, brief kiss around 18, 22-25, 45:55-end
- episode 11 watch 22:15-27:05 and 28:30-35 to avoid angst/serious stuff
- episode 12 watch 36:45-end

What I Liked
- visuals
- vampires
- sensual moments
- they refused to do the noble idiot trope

Room For Improvement
- not sold on the world building, police aren't concerned about what was happening?, a character who is supposedly good let another character go off and likely murder a bunch more people
- felt they were going for serious/sensual but then the special effects and dialogue gave it a corny feeling
- not a fan of the giant age gap because the younger guy acted like a toddler and also the "taking care of from afar" aka stalking as the younger character was growing up, the power imbalance is gigantic
- episode 2 was a world building exposition dump
- sick after the rain trope and refused to communicate in episode 5
- voicing inner thoughts
- missed opportunity of a solid redemption arc and side couple
- cartoonish idiot villain (why on earth wouldn't he have gotten proof/talked to them earlier?!!!, and he's lived a super long time but somehow isn't smarter/doesn't have resources and is camping out in the wilderness?!!)
- total nonsense to not tell friends the truth "in order to protect them" when not telling them obviously puts them in more danger because they can't make informed decisions, not talking about an obvious solution beforehand, terrible "plans"
- voice over exposition dump at the end of the finale

Low Budget, High Chemistry: The BL That Broke My Brain (and My Standards)

Yes, I know this series didn’t have a high budget. It was campy. The script was giving fanfiction written at 2AM. The plot? Confused. Lost. Maybe on holiday.

But hear me out: this is a perfect example of when acting shines, chemistry sizzles, and yes, they’re all ridiculously good-looking. I am superficial. Fight me 🥊✨

Now let’s dive into The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Buckle up.

🌟 The Good:
Honestly, I adored the entire cast. I’m not usually into “shipping” characters (I lie), but Joss and Gawin did something to me spiritually, emotionally, hormonally. I didn’t want the series to end. In fact, I need seventeen more BLs with them. cue that meme “Fantastic, I want 17 of those!”

Special shoutout to the actor who played Nakan. Started off wanting to yeet him into the sun, ended up whispering “you’re the real MVP” by the finale. We love a redemption arc.

And RIP to Aunty Nan, the queen who appeared for 1% of the show but gave 100% Oscar-worthy energy. A legend. Gone too soon.

Now let’s talk about Mother Thara – aka Vampire Mother Theresa. The villainess who wore white instead of black like, “Oh I’m not evil, I just look like a candle at a funeral.” Ma’am, you weren’t fooling anyone. But you were iconic.

Mark and Tong? Soulmates. And that surprise Pride and Prejudice moment? The range! Their English was flawless. I’m pretty sure they have secret Oxford degrees. Honestly, being bilingual is such a flex. (Yes, I speak two languages too, not me casually flexing lmao.)

😬 The Bad:
Okay, look. The actor playing Tong definitely did not look 20. But his mannerisms sold it, so I suspended disbelief and vibes-only’d through it.

Also, Mark was shirtless in every single episode. Why is this in the "bad" section? Because it was BAD for my health. I was weak. I was unwell. I needed the next episode of My Golden Blood like oxygen. Honestly, I’ve never simped harder. Joss is in a league of his own. He’s not just hot and he’s artistically sculpted.

😵 The Ugly:
Let’s be real. That script was on something. The plot was like a drunk GPS, every now and then it made sense, but most of the time I was like “where are we going???”

I get that they were aiming for camp, and the budget said “we can’t help you,” but they still managed to pull off something. And for that? I clap.

Now, the background music? Absolutely criminal. Upbeat pop during serious moments? Ma’am, this is a funeral scene, not a TikTok dance. So I took matters into my own hands and muted the show and curated my own playlist like a true genius. 🎧

Domino Dancing by Pet Shop Boys – perfection for Episode 6.

Fire for You by Cannons – peak drama for the finale.

Up All Night by Cannons – I was, thanks to them.

Yes, I rewatched Episode 6 more times than is healthy. No, I don’t regret it.

💖 Final Thoughts:
Despite the chaos, the plot holes, the rogue music editor (cause what was the background music💀) —I gave it an 8/10. Realistically? It’s more like a 3 or 4, but Joss and Gawin carried this series like Olympic champions. They earned at least 6 points just for breathing on screen. The rest is sprinkled generously for all the small but mighty moments that made it fun.

So go ahead and watch it. Ignore the hate. Watch it for the chemistry, the drama, the unintentional comedy, and the sheer audacity of that plot. Who knows? You might end up loving it too.

A Chaotic, Cheesy Delight

I can't help but liken My Golden Blood to a gas station hot counter meal during a long road trip, unexpected, questionable in quality, yet somehow exactly what I needed.

This Thai BL vampire drama attempts to mix melodrama, romance, and supernatural chaos that will either work for your inner teenage goth. or leave you laughing yourself out of your seat at those who did enjoy it.

It deals with a vampire gaining emotions in a very high school disney kind of way but I'm glad that Tong and Mark at least can discuss their feelings with each other without dragging the drama out for episodes.

The plot is predictable, the CGI is .....well, .... hats off to the intern valiantly battling the special effects alone. Bless them. The vision was there, even if the budget was not. But despite all that, I found it wildly entertaining.

JossGawin’s chemistry is a highlight. Not necessarily in the smoldering, tension filled way but in how comfortable they seem together. Their bond feels genuine and that emotional connection carries the show even when the script stumbles. The romance is sweet and takes centre stage throughout the show. The drama is cheesy melodramatic and the pacing is a little jumpy. I feel like there were important scenes missing.

It could have been a groundbreaking new supernatural BL but gmmtv seemed to just not want to put money into it. However, it still manages to deliver a fun, emotional, and oddly healing experience.

If all that fails to work, the production crew were highly aware of how much Joss invests into his boxer bod, and likes to remind us for a good portion of the show. Joss and his little blue speedos, strutting down the beach, was a bold fashion statement for some, a feast for others, or left you wondering how crushed his boys were looking, like me LOL

If you’re looking for prestige television, this isn’t it. But if you’re in the mood for a show that embraces its own absurdity and lets you revel in the ride, My Golden Blood is worth the watch.

Missed golden opportunity

Let’s start with the obvious: vampires – powerful, often immortal, carnal creatures that need to consume blood to survive – are among the sexiest beasts invented by our imagination. Representing a multitude of things considered forbidden and often evil, like unrestrained lust, following animal and predatory instincts, hunting, pursuing and killing prey, evading death etc., vampires are a projection not just of the darker (or even darkest) aspects of human nature, but also of a desire to be truly free, to do whatever we want, with no boundaries nor restrictions. So, in theory, a love story about gay vampires should be awesome, right? Well, in theory – yes. In practice, however, it can turn like MGB did: not so awesome.

The good stuff
There’s plenty of things in this show that I liked a lot – mostly the interactions of Mark and Tong, especially once they became an item. Fortunately that makes up a big portion of the series – it is a BL after all (no, it’s not a show about vampires – that’s just a pretext to tell a love story). Joss and Fluke work well together and their chemistry is MGB’s saving grace (that and Joss displaying his flawless physique). Another thing I enjoyed: the OST, consisting of “Closer” by Fluke (heard during opening credits), “Just You” by Joss and “Ever After” by Joss and Fluke. Pretty modest by GMMTV’s standards – and that’s also okay.

Writing
The show’s script is based on two intertwining storylines: Mark’s and Tong’s love story and the golden blood vampire story.
The love story is a variation of a well-known trope of a protector becoming a romantic interest/partner of the person he’s protecting. Inserting a vampire into that pattern doesn’t change a lot – after initial problems Mark becomes a rather traditional bodyguard-turned-lover character. Here’s where the vampire aspect of the show fails the most: once he overcomes his lust for Tong’s golden blood, Mark becomes so mundane that it’s easy to forget he’s a vampire. This is not an isolated case: all vampires in MGB seem weirdly bland, tamed and controlled, turning violent only on the rare occasion of coming into contact with Tong’s blood. Those are not the sexy vampires I imagined that would fit a daring gay love story, passionate, spicy and full of lust – this is a golden opportunity which was missed (or maybe deliberately abandoned). These vampires have been washed and bleached, deprived of feelings and senses – and became boring. Vampirism in MGB is like a curse: an eternal life of feeling nothing. Sure, this image is inconsistent (Thara has a genuine lust for power, Nakan seems to have some emotions and desires, Wan gets all teary in ep. 12 etc.), but heavily influences how Mark is presented and the love story progresses: it’s not taming of a wild beast lusting after Tong – it’s waking up a man’s sex drive and getting it to hum (instead of roar).
Another issue I have with the love story is its length – there simply doesn’t seem to be enough of the story for all 12 episodes. This leads to inclusion of filler elements; some (like most of ep. 4) are dull and unnecessary. This also gives room for subplots, chief among them the Tonkla subplot – which seemed to be important to the writers until they killed off Tonkla in ep. 9. Did it have a lasting impact on the story or characters? Not really.
The second main plotline – the vampire story – is messy, vague and inconsistent. Since MGB is not a show about vampires and this plotline is only meant to provide setting and obstacles for the love story, I’m not bothered by the aforementioned flaws; this is less important than the portrayal of vampires themselves, which I complained about above.

Characters
Both Mark and Tong are written in a proper manner (contrary to some opinions I read on MDL, I didn’t find Tong’s character to be annoying or subpar), fitting the love story plotline. Thara – as a villain – is a bit generic, but passable; revealing her as the main baddy of the show was foreshadowed in ep. 10 by some ominous music, which actually made me laugh. Tonkla is irritating and generally useless; I begin to understand why some comments express regret that Tonkla wasn't paired with Nakan – at least that would give Tonkla something to do in the show. Nakan seemed plausible as a villain, but then ep. 11 and 12 happened. I’m unsure whether that was plain old bad writing or an attempted redemption arc; whatever it was – it didn’t work for me. That character had potential, clearly, but it was wasted – mainly because it wasn’t developed properly. Seeing pictures of Tonkla and Nakan displayed next to each other with flowers in front of them (ep. 12), as for some cherished fallen comrades or good friends, left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Acting
As much as I enjoyed the Mark-Tong dynamic I have to point out that Joss gave a flawed performance in MGB. It’s something I noticed in ep. 1 and what did not change until the very end of the series: Joss was good at being hot&sexy, cool, manly, funny, caring or vulnerable – basically in almost every scene Mark interacted with Tong; the opposite happened when Mark needed to be serious, angry and “mature” – Joss kept missing the beat, becoming (unintentionally) funny: becoming lifeless and stiff or reciting his lines in a weird, solemn manner (as to underline that what he says is important). Fluke’s performance was much more consistent and without major flaws; same can be said about Um’s performance as Thara. Mond, whom I learned to respect a bit after “Only Friends” (while disliking the show itself and most performances in it), is all over the place here; much of that is due to the writing, but some has to attributed to the performer. Mond seemed sleepy, stoned or bored for much of ep. 1-10 and his face looked swollen – all of which made me think he was having some health issues while MGB was filmed. Fortunately this was no longer the case in ep. 11-12.

Visuals
Much was said about CGI in MGB – and how it (supposedly) was indicative of a low budget. While I wasn’t bothered by the use of special effects nor their quality, I do believe that – with writing adjusted in this regard and consistent use of more traditional means, like filming after sunset, proper lighting, filters and color grading, MGB could have created a better, convincingly “vampiric” atmosphere. Same about locations: while I applaud some choices in this regard (in particular Wan’s flower shop), others were baffling. Speaking of which: what’s with the wedding venues used by BLs recently? First “The Next Prince” located the interiors of the Emmalian royal palace in “La Chapelle”, a “unique luxury venue for weddings” in Bangkok, and now MGB used what seemed like two wedding venues (or just two areas within one venue) in ep. 12.

Final thoughts
Is MGB bad? No, it’s above average – mainly because most of its flaws have nothing to do with the love story while Joss and Fluke work so good together that they sell that story. My biggest issue with MGB is that it could have been much more – given its potential; instead it’s a half-hearted bite: you felt it, but it’s painless.
