i dropped beloved summer because i go so annoyed, esp with the female being so back and forth and i didnt really feel like her backstory made me sympathetic enough to be okay with the whiplash she was giving me

It has been awhile since I have hated a character as fast as I have with this female assistant. I really hope the first episode is about all the screen time she gets cause the damage is done and until the last episode/ending when she (I assume) gets her karma, I'd rather forget her existence. Like, just let me get a cute jeju romance please.

i can already tell theyre gonna drag this out theres no need to make it 16 eps
This is the issue I have with childhood best friends/sweethearts tropes. The entire drama always ends up being one big cycle of misunderstanding and flashbacks when in reality they both just need to admit they always have loved one another and want to be together. It doesnt take 16 episodes to be a mature adult and sit down and air out the misunderstanding s and admit your feelings and faults. I end up getting annoyed in these romances becaue it just goes back and forth and makes me end up annoyed with both lead characters.

I still like that this is in jeju and i like a lot of the side cast so for now im happy to keep watching .

How much screentime of this is set in Seoul? (Of course feel free to reply when more episodes have aired ^-^)
Like half the first episode was in seoul and there were some flashbacks makind up like 1/3 or a little more in the second episode. But i think from here on out it will mainly be in jeju.

totally agree. i remember the first time i watched the teaser, i thought that it could be like goblin or nine…
I love the fantasy genre so I think I went in with a bit too much hope and assumptions and ended up playing myself. I can see why younger people like it but for me it just feels somewhat done before and a bit over the top in cringe. I'm not expecting LOTR storytelling but I need korea to give me a better fantasy than what they have because I've given up on western netflix fantasy dramas since they are all being cancelled or changing cast members (witcher im looking at you with disappointment)

So in WEst is the same, look at Keannu Reaves in Matrix, or Terminator (all black leader) etc...
You just listed two movies that are 2 decades old lol. It was fine in the 90s and early 2000s but its 2023, we need to move on. If a western film did the slow music with mist/fog at night with a guy walking through it I would slam it too. Twilight tried doing it in the 2000s and people still slam it for being cringe.

The problem I'm having with this drama is it comes across as a parody of Goblin or Nine tails or other fantasy shows. As if its trying to make fun of those type of shows and the characters in them.

I feel like it tries to be dark and serious at some points but then over all just feels very unserious and eccentric? The humor is immature and both characters are clearly inexperienced and immature in relationships which is bound to cause misunderstanding or just frustrating to watching things in the future. Both characters are also somewhat unlikeable. Its nice we get a strong female lead who is intelligent and focused on herself but then her scene in the bathroom just came across very cringe instead of funny like it was intended to. The demon guy is obv a mess lol, outside of his looks he isnt meant to be likeable at first. So the problem is i dont really like either character and have little motivation to keep watching.

I also hate how they have added the female dancer character as a jealous/possessive women who cant let go of the main male character trope. It's so over done and just feeds into the competitive mindset that so many women already have about romance which is unhealthy. Kdramas make me never wanna date if I have to be fighting some crazy girl over some man.

I think the concept of the show is good but so far ... I guess I'm a bit disappointed. I want a mature romance where people can communicate with one another without raising their voices or assuming things or accidentally slapping someone.

Also the korean obsession with men in black trench coats walking through the fog/mist/whatever at night strikes again lol. Again just seems like a goblin parody at this point.

I recently watched this too and I found that the last few episodes could have been cut short to be honest, the…
Yeah, I felt like they were trying to make it more emotional by dragging it out but it got kind of annoying to the point I was like can we just end this thing...

Also the more innocent people died (it was ~1000 people) , the more it started feeling so unrealistic. Like yeah all of a sudden a thousand people are going to drop dead of this crazy infectious plague and throw up snake eggs but restaurants and other places are still going to be operating like normal (bc they went out for one final date together after the news was talking about 900 people dead so far and people were just casually eating like normal)? It just didn't feel real. The show just became silly to me, like I was in a Marvel comic.

This drama is a copycat of the classic Chinese story White Snake. Shi Ying is the (male) White Snake. The change…
Almost all wuxia dramas have damn near the same plot if we want to really break it down. Eternal love , ashes of love, and ancient love poetry by your logic could also be said to be copies of one another. And ancient love poetry and eternal love also have hidden identity and reincarnation so dang I guess they were plagiarizing too, my goodness!

I personally don't see the similarities and this is my train of thought:

TLP is heavily driven by the royal families competing against one another for the throne (or married to the throne) and everyone trying to backstab one another to get what they want and how that effects the main couple. TLP has multiple big storylines running through it where white snake was mainly focused on the couple and the two individuals trying to go after each of them (the monk and the rich girl). TLP has a much bigger world in terms of how many moving parts there are and people involved.

Also the female is the powerful immortal in white snake and in TLP they are both humans and the male is significantly more powerful. TLP is someone faking their death and hiding their identity for political reasons which is not the same at all as white snake where someone dies and is reincarnated.

We could compare dramas all day and find an endless amount that are very similar. Half of books and movies are retellings nowadays so I guess to you that's all plagiarism too. Hans Christian Andersen must be rolling in his grave

I'll be honest, after the first episode or two I was very iffy on this show but now im on episode 13 and its becoming a favorite wuxia of mine and its been years since i found one i didn't drop.

I love how this is kind of a wholesome slow burn and we really get to see them interact with one another for awhile. In some dramas I feel like we barely get used to the main couple interacting before they are forced apart by some crazy scheme and I like that so far we are just seeing them get to know each other and watching the female become more mature and skilled. Obviously things are being set in motion but we get to spend awhile with the two leads and are able to become more attached to their growing relationship. Some dramas write the falling in love part so quickly I think the viewers dont have enough time to be convinced of their love for each other and this drama is finally giving me time to love their growing relationship.

I hope it keeps up this energy but Im also looking forward to watching the female grow and become his equal and partner.

I'm a little up and down with season one. It felt kinda slow at the start then got really good in the middle but im on episode 13 and feels like its dragging again and im really trying to push myself through these last episodes.

My main issue with this show is i dont think the romance of this show was shown well. I feel more passion with this girl wanting to save her parents than i ever do with lee yeon.I think the concept of the show is cool and i like the characters individually but because this is written as a romance fantasy and focuses on the 2 leads its causing the show to feel flat to me since their romance feels a bit flat to me. I love the main two actors individually and I think they are super cute on camera together but i honestly felt more chemistry in behind the scenes stuff i saw of them than in the drama. And no, not in a shipping way, just in that... I dont get a lot of intense chemistry between the main couple in the show and since this seaspn is focused on them it makes the whole show feel a bit bland. They are cute but not a couple I'm crazy about or want to focus on.

Im mainly watching this because season 2 looks cool and i heard was better but these last episodes are really testing my patience -__- Im hoping the last two episodes are action packed and end well

We are watching a 25 episode drama, so yes at some point there needs to be some deep conversation. You can't build a relationship on just looking at someone and not saying anything?

Review Hidden Love
I just made a comment that summarized this. We see no genuine intelligent conversation between the leads. The longest conversations are when he is essentially lecturing her when she is younger.

Also it takes her forever to respond to him in a conversation to a point im like ????? The male character is very witty and quick so its weird we are to believe he would enjoy being with someone who can't even formulate a basic response within a normal amount of time. Idk, this drama kinda reminded me of Love 020 which is not a compliment.
On Hidden Love Jul 11, 2023
Title Hidden Love
This girl's conversational response time is abysmal.

Why does it take her a full 15 seconds to respond to someone? Having a whole inner monologue analyzing what someone says to her just for her to say one word. If she could have an actual conversation with someone this drama could be half the length.

I like this drama but this is a huge pet peeve of mine. I do not understand what this intelligent man is seeing in her which makes the age thing even more noticeable which doesn't really help matters. Yes, she's cute and very nice but good lord half the time he tries to talk to her she just gets shy and overthinks and doesn't even respond.

Outside of when he is lecturing her or worrying about her I have yet to see an intellectual conversation going back and forth between the leads that lasts for several minutes. Then again a lot of men just like women who don't talk much and are pretty and nice so maybe I'm expecting too much - ____- I think this is a drama where everyone just swoons over the guy being perfect which I get lol cause thats why I'm still watching .

But c'mon girl

Imo Won needed this character to execute his own power play against his sister, now that he's serious about the…
I get what you're saying I just still think they could have done something different to achieve the same result of him incidentally one upping his sister. I think they are trying to drive home the point that when you act out of not your own good but the good of others you will always have better results.

However I kind of suspect he's about the ruin the prince thing in a way? Like the prince guy goes too far and he steps in and it ends up hurting him which brings me back to thinking this is a little unnecessary if that does happen. A back to square one type of thing.

My biggest issue though was more so the prince character also being very ridiculous that it turned the show from a charming cringe/cute to being a little bit too much for me if that makes sense? It went from cute and cheesy to bad sitcom humor to me...

But I agree about the mom part... his entire reason of working there and going through all this with his sister was to slowly solve the mystery of his mom and the drama doing the bare minimum with that feels like untapped potential? I would rather get into the past with his mom and dad rather than this prince thing. But I assume the show some point soon is going to take a more serious turn and we will finally get more on that situation.

Totally agree with you, the slo-mo effect seems to be overused. That makes me feel like the story hasn’t been…
Yes! The overuse of slow mo and flashbacks to something that literally just happened are some of my personal pet peeves. I think many of those moments are fillers to lengthen episodes though cause they have to hit thier 16 episode quota and air time weekly. Don't even get me started on the flashbacks in Goblin lmao

I would agree with many comments, I think episode 7 started great but became very unnecessary. This rich prince plot line feels very poorly written and is unfortunately bringing me to the point many of us make... not all kdramas should be 16 episodes.

I'm assuming this plot line is serving the purpose of us seeing the man jealous over her and making his feelings more obviously known to the point other people in the company begin noticing (his sister mainly). Also I'm assuming something next episode is going to happen where we see the ML mature even more and stand up for his employee despite possible backlash which is clearly his main character growth of the show. I just think this could have been achieved differently.

This is a cheesy show but for me the first 6 episodes were still working around a solid plot path but this Arab prince thing just feels like a very random and unnecessary addition to get to our obvious end goal. Again, a cheesy drama like this doesn't need to be 16 episodes cause they always put in super super cheesy and unrealistic writing like this around the middle to try and keep it interesting but it ends up backfiring like im seeing in this comment section and just with myself.

I'm hoping we can quickly get out of this prince thing next episode and get back on track.

but yeah that was the last show i watched of yang yang so i cant help but compare especially when they did the special forces flashback of his character and the best friend from that show is also a second lead male character in this show. i almost felt like for a second we were watching a sequal to the special forces show where he had to change careers or something
