I hope Na Gyeom is not in the series just to play a potential love interest or a person that cares for him and she has a more substantial role in the drama.
I always tend to get suspicious of characters like hers, cause this is a mystery/crime series and usually everyone is important to the case.
I honestly am not sure if it was the dubbing or sound mixing either, but yeah, there was definitely, something wrong.
A better budget would definitely solve lots of problems. I feel that if this did well, they will invest more in a next project!
That aside, the fact that that woman so far seems to be there just to play a good friend and support the ML is honestly weird. I feel that maybe her connection to the case years ago is not just superficial.
Books tend to be better. If you end up reading it soon, let us know! I think it will be interesting seeing the changes when it comes to the cultural aspect.
I don't know what is the ending, and obviously I don't want to know, but they will certainly change some things to fit the Korean society as it already seems.
For the time being, I just hope it doesn't get draggy.
We will probably see him more in the next eps
1. Goh Jeong Woo is truly pitiful. He was locked up for 10 years, for two(?) murders he (probably) didn't commit. He was continuously abused while in prison. Barely anyone visited him. His dad died while he was in prison and his mom never visited him (same as the majority of his friends). And now he gets out, is constantly treated like a monster and his mom was pushed from that overpass and he could lose her too.
2. That uncle of his is definitely suspicious and it seems that his son, Su O, knows something (or maybe he even did something).
3. It looks like his friends dad saw who pushed ML's mom off the overpass and he was scared. The fact he doesn't talk is either cause it was someone he wants to protect (doubt it) or it was someone with power. Of course the most predictable scenario is that the uncle did it, especially since he ended up "confessing" to him that she fell on her own.
4. Another series were cops don't do their jobs...
5. It seems like we will have some typical tropes about corruption etc. I am wondering if that new dude that appeared has something to do with the old case and the moms "accident".
6. I hope the cop and ML cooperate to figure out what happened in the past and to ML's mom.
7. Kim Mi Kyung is such a great actress! She didn't have that much screetime, but her performance was excellent š
8. I am wondering what type of role Na Gyeom will play in the story. I truly hope there is no unnecessary romance...
9. That speach about the sexual violence counseling center can't be coincidental. From the scenes in ep. 1 we can assume that one of the victims would get assaulted and it probably has something to do with her murder. And all those things the nurses said about how perfect he is. Yeah, he probably has something to do with the case.
However, I think it is unfair to judge a drama before watching it and calling it ''cringe''. Yes, romance can be cringe, but Kdramas literally became popular cause of that 'cringe' romance. And because something is cheesy doesn't mean it is bad. We cannot be judging a rom-com in the same way we are judging a mystery-thriller series and that's totally fine. Let's not forget, that we are talking for different numbers of people too. This one has aired and it doesn't even have 4k viewers and Love Next Door has already 14k.
About ratings, even this one has 10 ratings each episode (even in the ones that haven't aired yet...). Plus rating rised cause more people voted. Hopefully today's ep. will be good enough and it will rise even more.
I think it is a bit more complicated than that. First of all, MDL never had any impact. I mean, it is a great platform for people loving content from specific countries, but its ratings are not really that important when it comes to actual popularity and worth (financially). Let's not forget that the majority of people here on MDL are not even watching the series/movies legally.
I do agree there are many people that are voting based on things such as looks/actors etc. However, it is a given when there are so many people voting nowadays and it happens everywhere not just on MDL. It's not something that can change. Only thing MDL could do is maybe ban people from rating a series before the first 4 -let's say- eps are out.
That aside, no matter how shallow some votes may be, we can't really judge people for it. There are always gonna be such votes. And as previously mentioned, I think we tend to judge dramas and ratings as a whole, not taking into consideration the genres etc. I actually think that series in this category may be even more logically judged sometimes, because many of the viewers are just more strict when it comes to the genre.
When big platforms and specifically Netflix joined the success the amount of dramas that started getting produced got more and more. When I started watching Kdramas, the only ones in THIS genre that were popular was Signal (2016) and Voice (2017). Most of them were romance series. After 2018 more and more started to get produced and it was partly cause of international success, since Koreans were not that fond of these dramas and even if they were made there were tons of censorship.
They have I agree on that. Many dramas seem more ''westernized'' and the Koreans themselves have said they have problems when it comes to actors payments, cause now with the big platforms actors want much more money. On the other hand, I think the affect was not only negative. We have darker Kdramas getting produced that we would probably not see in another case and of course cause of platforms we get uncensored series too and censorship has loosened in Korea.
True about cast, but that is not always the case. Yes many dramas get that and I mean that is the reason why those actors are chosen to begin with. But, I think every series should be judged individually. The cast in this one is not really unknown.
That aside, I feel that many times series like these are judged in a more strict way cause they have to. Mystery/crime dramas should have tightly written plots. If they don't they fall apart. In some other genres, even if the plot is not that well written it doesn't really matter nor does it really affect the logic of the series.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the subbing community on Viki is another proof that Kdramas got super popular especially after 2019-2020. At least in my community, there were barely any subbers back then. Now it is getting harder and harder to acquire series cause the amount of Kdrama fans that are willing to translate are increasing every day.
Sorry that got super long
However, this can't be the case in this one. I found the series very easily with subs and watched it yesterday and the first episode was good. Not perfect, but good.
Now, the low rating could be for lots of reasons:
1. There is no international platform and people are mad about it (cause they are bored to search for it elsewhere)
2. Some of the people who rated the drama truly didn't like the first episode and gave it a very low rating (even if some enjoyed it, the rating would still be low if others gave it a 1/2 stars)
3. Some purposefully rated it low, cause they don't like some of the actors or for whatever other pity reason -it would not be the first time, but I don't think that is the case''.
And talking about absurdity, MDL should ban people from rating episodes that haven't been released, cause all episodes have been rated a 10 in the episode guide...
Absurdity goes both ways, it's just that we only notice when ratings are low.
That aside, MDL rating is not important at all especially now that there is not really an international platform.
