Maybe that allows more freedom for the crew to work around it, and as far as the rumours go it's probably more of a palace revenge style drama. Like idk I'm kinda intrigued about this but I can't bring myself to care about the rest of dmbj series because tomb hunting mystery style genre is not my cup of tea. But House Rules and Buying Ears are not commercials, they are short films from Sina's project called "The Most Beautiful Performance" and many actors performed as part of the project. I don't think the Tsingtao one had any specific story even tho it was directed by Jia Zhangke. Hope we can get them to collab soon on a real project.

It's silly to assume things from just seeing the clips because usually they don't have the context and are baity in nature so that people tune in to the actual episode. It's quite obvious that Zhu Yan has no romantic feelings towards Yuan in the drama. Two things could have happened - maybe Yuan managed to convince her she's really Yao Yi (I think this is far fetched) or maybe Zhu Yan is plain lying to save him from Shi Ying. In the novel, Zhu Yan says this lie (which is an important part of the novel) that the one she loves is Shi Ying (to hide Yuan's identity), which gives Shi Ying hope that gets shattered later when he knows the truth. Maybe the drama reversed it - here the lie is that she loves Yuan (which also affects Shi Ying but in a different way).
