ALP sucked bad because of Male Lead. This one sucked worse because of bad direction and soulless acting. No connection…
Hmm... Well, I don't see criticism as hatred myself, but sometimes provocative comments (and Jupiter might be in that category, or maybe just has strong views about this and that, I couldn't say) are just people looking for attention and to stir the pot. Easiest way to deal with someone like that is to not rise to the occasion. Politely agree to disagree, no drama, end of story.

The other thing is that dramas of different genres often can't be compared in terms of ratings. Like comparing a great classic novel to a popular youth novel, both have different kinds of appeal. Same goes for dramas.

Never said you did. π My comment was in response to what you said in your comment above: "Some negative viewers criticized the drama after only 3 ep aired, compared it to AoL, voted 1 point and left. So in your opinion what are those guys should be called? Genuinely asking." My point in response to that was why must they "be called" anything? Why can't they just watch 3 episodes and decide they don't like it? Tastes differ, and that's ok. Disliking a drama or a certain actor is their right, they don't have to be vilified for it.

We'll have to agree to disagree there. I loved Ancient Love Poetry and I think Xu Kai gave a fantastic, very moving performance in ALP. I've rewatched it several times! β€

You're entitled to that view. I haven't watched it yet so I can't agree or disagree... But we're discussing how to give and receive criticism respectfully here. π Like Estelle says, it helps to give reasoning for your views.

It's hard though because people have vastly differing taste. What is boring to one viewer might be fascinating to another. For example, I like really authentic, heavy, intellectual historical dramas. I studied history of art and literature at university, it's interesting to me. But... to someone after some fluffy romance and cuteness, a drama like that might seem boring. Age, education, maturity, interests... All these things can change how you perceive a drama. I'm bored to tears of school dramas, but 15 years ago I would have enjoyed it!
To a certain extent we all have to reserve judgement until we have watched the drama ourselves.

So what..? If they didn't like it and weren't patient enough to wait to see if it improves that's their right. I have dropped a few dramas after watching 1 episode because I could tell right away it wasn't my cup of tea. They shouldn't be called anything... That's the whole point. They are just as entitled to dislike the drama as you are to like it. You should respect (even if you don't agree) their negative criticism and dislike as much as they should respect your positive criticism and like. Someone with a different opinion is not the enemy, they just have different taste.
If one person likes broccoli and another person doesn't, do you get angry with them and call them a hater? No, either eat the broccoli off their plate and be happy you got more broccoli or accept that they don't have to like the same things as you do.
Great show!I was keenly aware of the fact that Cui Xi never allowed Bao Qin to have a relationship with her son…
When the drama first started I was in protagonist and antagonist mode, seeing Cui Xi as the protagonist (the loyal, dutiful and underappreciated wife), and Bao Qin as the antagonist (selfish homewrecker and seductress), but as the drama progressed I realised the idea of the hero and villain was too black and white for this drama. The real villain was the patriarchy that forced them into those roles to begin with.
Both characters are flawed and both challenge each other to grow. Their personal growth was painful but ultimately they came out the other end with understanding and open mindedness, having overcome the things holding them back.
We were just having a discussion about this below under Minoucha's comment.

I think it's sad... Some dramas deserve and need more episodes like "Story of Minglan". If it was any shorter, it wouldn't be as good as it was.
