On The Rise of Phoenixes Dec 15, 2021
I don't think there is another drama that compares to this one... I wish there were. Such complex characters, so many layers!!! Beautifully flawed characters, but somehow you love them even the villains. Oh and the sets, props and the costumes... a feast for the eyes.

I think he is perfect for the role a perfect couple for this story and I see him as god of war a older yehua
He is supposed to be much older than her. I like that scene when he is insecure about his age and looks and he asks his very senior looking servant and finds out that this white haired man is much younger than him and has a minor freak out and goes to find his book on preserving youth. πŸ˜‚ Why does no one complain to the same extent about Gao Weiguang in Eternal Love of Dream who is 38! He's no spring chicken either, and playing one of the most ancient gods there is. Or what about Wallace Chung who is older than Chang Cheng?! πŸ˜‚

Maybe it's young C-drama fans who don't like his appearance. I can see why a teenager doesn't want to watch an…
Yeah, I can see that, but that is the problem with C dramas, too many MLs and FL are too alike, which means that when one drama goes against the set formula even slightly, many viewers can't accept it. C drama leads need more variety in looks, heights and ages so that viewers become more flexible! Who says all romances have to be between 20 year olds? Can't 30 and 40 year olds fall in love? (Will probably be an infinitely more interesting romance too between older characters lol) Also, all C drama MLs are at least 180cm, even though the Chinese national average is below that!

I’ve watched TMOPB and gave this a try. It looks pleasing but the reviews on this site hold true (as always…
I am the first one to take issue with romanticising abuse, but I honestly have to disagree with you here. Have you finished the drama?

Have you got access to Viki Rakuten? You can watch it on there for free (with ads).

I heard that the relationship between the main leads is a 'romanticised abusive relationship', is that true?
I disagree with that. I would say that definitely applies to a lot of C dramas though (and I'm the first one to take issue with it!). They (especially Jiu Chen) sometimes have to make painful decisions because there is no other way... But I wouldn't class it as abusive, no. I don't want to spoil it for you because it's a rollercoaster ride... If you liked 10 Miles of Peach Blossom and Eternal Love of Dream, you will probably like (love!) this one too.

finally finished, i loved this drama and the characters so much!!
It's one of the best. So incredibly moving. I also think the costumes are some of the best from the historical-fantasy genre. Ni Ni's outfits are exquisite, not tacky at all like a lot of costumes from dramas of this genre.

i want Ni Ni in xianxia drama againn. she is soo beautiful aaa
Same!!! She's not just stunningly beautiful, in a very unique and natural way, but she's a fantastic actress. So often, beauty matters more than talent to C drama producers, which annoys me, but she really has it all...

I was tempted by a few entertaining YouTube clips to watch this drama BUT THEN... I read the reviews and comments and remembered why I chose not to watch this last time I considered it! LOL

Title Fall in Love Spoiler
why not capturing what the story is telling. he is a man who has a different background compared to normal people.…
But it's not done in that way though... She just forgives him for being a psycho. I just think his aggression reached such levels it was unforgiveable. I just think it went too far for a realistic romance to grow from. If he had toned it down in the beginning then it could have been forgiven imo, but he treated her so abominably, he deserved to be the villain not the SML. For me there is just too big a disconnect between first half him and second half him.

I have to say, this drama is a bit too light/pop for me, which is a shame imo because it could be a really intense drama (because of the time period and theme) and based on Cheng Xing Xu's performance in Goodbye My Princess, we know he can go deep and show us some first rate acting. He needs a new more heavy production where he can really flex his acting muscles again. However, despite the fact that I'm bored of the shallow characters and cliches, the production and the look of this drama is fantastic, I love that 1920s glamour, Shanghai-style with the cross over of Western and old school Republican wear.

I seriously find this better than Love 020 bc it doesn’t have much cringey moment unlike love 020 which was…
Honestly, I couldn't stand Love O2O, it was the first modern C drama I had watched and it totally put me off modern C dramas. Hated it. Boring, cliched, sexist, shallow... lol Sorry to all the devotees out there. As I'm learning Chinese though, I forced myself to watch more modern dramas to get the modern language, and fortunately found this one, which is a real gem!

Can i say something controversial? China has been producing better romcom and melodrama than Korea. They're so…
I think they still produce too much rubbish, but there are some real gems every year in the modern and historical genres. And there's always at least one top notch xianxia every year. I think Chinese dramas often pack more of a punch than SK dramas, more highs and lows. SK dramas don't make me cry as much as Chinese dramas do. πŸ˜… However, I think K dramas have more authentic female characters (realistically flawed), which I like... A bit more down to earth... Chinese FLs tend to be super glamorous or super cute, but they have to be perfect, which takes away from their authenticity.

Is this about gaming? I'm desperate to watch something but I 'm not sure about gaming stuff.. I gave up watching…
Same here! But the gaming section is just the first arc of this drama. Just skip the gaming scenes if it gets too nerdy lol. This drama has a lot of evolution and despite some of the glamour from JingJing's side, it's actually quite realistic from the relationship side of things. I found it a bit slow in the beginning but by the end of the gaming arc I was hooked, so bear with it, it just gets better.
