I was NOT prepared for the rollercoaster of emotions this drama bestowed upon me. I've never seen so many twists,…
Totally agree. This drama really breaks your heart. But it also has the heartwarming moments like the devotion between Wu You and Man Yao. A real example of a love that has been tested and then becomes unshakeable.
Unpopular opinion, but i really pity fu chou, tho i know he is the bad guy, and im just on ep 39.. i don't ship…
That's the thing. All of these characters are tragic, even the villains. I really feel for Fu Chou, he's so sure of his identity and his mission until it all comes crashing down around him and he realises he has not only destroyed himself, but also everything that actually could make his life worthwhile.
In the top 10 of most underrated dramas, this one would definitely fall in the top 5 for me. Amazing acting from the whole cast, both heartwrenching and heartwarming in equal measure. Wonderful sets and costumes, a moving soundtrack. I've lost count how many times I've rewatched it. If you like plots with a lot of twists and turns and complicated not-all-good characters, this is for you.
Chen Kun in another drama??? Yasssss XD I just finished rewatching Rise of Phoenixes and my feels all over again!!!!…
Rise of the Phoenixes was the second C drama I ever watched. It's epic. Nie Yuan is also good at Machiavellian characters. Excited for what these two can pull off together.
would anyone know why the rating here (MDL) went down...?i remember it started with 9.2....
Some people rate it before it has come out, others rate it after only seeing one episode, some rate it because they like or don't like some of the actors in the cast. While the drama is still airing, ratings mean very little. A good drama, providing there's not too much drama rating politics, will usually fall around 8.4-8.6.
In my experience, it's hard to judge whether to watch a drama based on the ratings here, with low quality idol dramas being rated high and the high quality ones being rated lower. Then you have the trash that no one likes, and they're usually in the 7-7.5 range. 7.5 is sometimes watchable though. But sometimes excellent dramas may even get rated 7.9 to 8.1, so worth checking reviews and comments. If an actor has hardcore fans or antifans, they can influence the score, regardless of how good or bad it is.
While watching this drama I now understand why I can't enjoy most romance dramas that most people seem to have…
In that case, are you sure C dramas are for you? 😄 Better stick to Western dramas lol, providing they're not aimed at teens/kids or Christmas themed, they are generally hyperrealistic! What genres do you like best? If you like realistic romance in Asian dramaland, try Yumi's Cells (K drama)! Really enjoyed that one. Personally, I like C dramas because they're much more idealistic and romantic. I'm forgiving of the plot holes and script mistakes.
Hahaha this Chinese actress baby voice gives me so much rage. Sometimes vomit too lol. No self-respecting ADULT…
This baby-bimbo-whiny-brat act really makes me sick to my stomach. A little bit I can tolerate, but the vast majority are sickening. It is demeaning to all women.
One of the weirdest causes of blacklisting. It's 2021! How old are the people in government that they're still…
I have a similar background as you, albeit European. Who doesn't? I just ate dinner in Germany with my stepfather who was actually born during an air raid in the UK, bombs dropping all around. My grandparents both served in the war. My stepfather would be the first to say "Move on". It was a world war, but it was also a lifetime ago. Whose country's soldiers have not committed atrocities? None. If we are all held accountable for the deeds committed by our nation's soldiers, we would all carry a heavy burden of guilt that we could never erase. Especially if we are also holding the guilt of people long dead and gone. I wonder what the Chinese have done to the Japanese in the past... You think Chinese soldiers haven't raided homes for foreign girls to rape? British? American? The real crime is war. But holding a grudge is very different from remembering the trauma of it. The Japanese were also traumatized by it. What the US did to them was also a crime against humanity. If you actually look at the whole situation from an unbiased perspective, everyone involved was a victim and everyone was a perpetrator. And as the years pass, the victims gradually become the perpetrators and perpetrators become the victims. That is the cycle of war. Endless revenge, endless grudges, endless hypocrisy.
There is no fathomable excuse for casting actors in this age range for these characters. Even if they were trying…
It seems more common in my experience that young actors occupy roles that would be better suited to more mature actors. It's rare to get mature actors as main leads, however... the practice of using an adult actor to play a teen is almost always a bad idea imo. They should use more child and teen actors for younger versions of the adult actors as I see it, then we wouldn't get that ridiculous immature acting from older actors.
