Based on what I've read, I don't think this drama is suitable for binge watching, am I right?

It's not a bad drama. It just felt like it could become an epic drama in the beginning, and instead ended up being mediocre.

My opinion: There is a lack of plot progression and twists. They have the same conversation over and over again, the script is shallow and unimaginative. The romance was so enchanting at first became more and more dull. The characters don't have enough depth, there are a lot of unexplained characters and plot holes and underdeveloped subplots. A lot of screentime is wasted on pointless interactions that don't contribute much to the plot. The villain is two dimensional and cliche. It all feels more and more predictable and repetitive the more I watched.

The overall feeling that I and I know some other viewers had was that we were so excited up until around episode 7 and then it started to drag... This drama had SO much potential and I feel let down that it didn't live up to that.

I feel let down. They hooked me in the first few episodes and then just let me drift.

I think the problem is that the usual historical dramas are too preoccupied with royals and succession. One interesting aspect of this drama was delving into traditional painting. I think staying away from the royals and sticking to a traditional trade has a lot of potential for story development. Who says only princes and princesses can have big dramas?

This drama started with a bang but fizzled out. I seriously think the current episodes could (and should) be condensed to a few episodes and then a whole other story arc added to expand and enrich the story.

Omg please just get the sealing ritual over with... The plot has so little to offer. This really has dragged on for long enough without much happening. Sad I went from ecstatic to underwhelmed during the course of this drama. 😔

I've only seen him play villains so far! I'll give this show a go.

That's the real bummer with scandal dramas... All the other actors have to pay the price. Imagine you're an up and coming actor and you finally get a big role and then it never airs... That would suck.

Xu Kai might be a good match with Yang Zi! But there are lots of great Chinese actors who could take over. I just hope this drama doesn't disappear into the ever increasing pile of ditched scandal dramas...!

Well... Kris Wu allegedly raped an underage girl, and several fans... I hope he is prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Shame about this drama, but hopefully they can reshoot it with another ML.

I'm sure I would have enjoyed this more if I was in my early teens. The story has interesting aspects to it, but boy was the acting cringeworthy.

100% agreed. This drama could have been a 9 or 10 based on how it started. People are nervous to watch it because of all the criticism, but the way I see it is that we had such high expectations, which is why there is a lot of criticism. It's still a good enough drama, just not epic, like you said...

I mean, I agree that the writing for those two hasn't been that great since the first few episodes. I just think with the situation as it is, I get it. She's crumbling under the pressure... She goes some place with Ha Ram, he doesn't tell her what he's up to, and with some sort of vague "Trust me, I'll figure it out" he expects her to not go out? And it's Ha Ram's jealous revenge lady who provokes her into leaving... Plus, she has been looking after her dad mostly on her own for her whole life. Both of those two have the same problem, they're used to dealing with problems on their own.

Yeah, the romance was quite intense in the beginning and then became quite tame....

I disagree, personally Rookie Historian was a disappointment for me. There are a few K dramas I've seen like that that had an interesting premise, but just failed to launch somehow.

Tbf Ha Ram is the same. He hasn't trusted her with all his revenge plots and schemes, why should she trust him completely if he's not being fully honest with her?

It's still airing... I think it's a flawed but good drama. Despite its flaws I'm still enjoying it because it has an interesting premise. The beginning is just so good and they haven't succeeded in maintaining that momentum. I still think it's a good watch. Myself and some other viewers just had this feeling like it didn't live up to the potential we felt it had. It could have been epic, instead it's just good.
