Haha. Even through I know this is true in Chinese, it still creeps me out a bit lol. It just comes across as a bit incestuous. Like, why would you have sex with someone you call a sibling? Haha so weird to Western ears.
General doubt: I have been told "ge" means "older bro" . Tong Yao calls Cheng "Ge" . Even after they start dating.…
That's a part of Chinese language culture. They refer to non-related individuals with family titles. Friends will use sibling terms, but you might refer to an older lady or gentleman as Aunt or Uncle.
哥哥 (gēge) is actually an older brother 弟弟 (dìdi) younger brother 姐姐 (jiějie) older sister 妹妹 (mèimei) younger sister
If it is non-related person like a friend then they will say the name and then gē for example Si Cheng Gege. From what I can tell, blood related siblings will just say Ge/Jie/Meimei/Didi without the name attached.
But yeah, it sounds strange if that isn't a practice in your own language/culture! Totally agree. Still creeps me out a bit lol.
Because they're used to flower boys as MLs... Chang Chen is hot af. He's a man, not a boy. ;-)
I wonder how many would turn their nose up at Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Hugh Jackman, Ryan Gosling, Heath Ledger and the like when they were the same sort of age... 🤣 Can you imagine? "Ugh he's too old!" 🤣

Hahaha... I do have a tendency to do that! 😅 Don't get me started on the cliche C drama FLs... Then I really will end up painting a target on myself. 🤣
this is really good, surprised how underrated it still is
Yeah, I also find it shocking. It's amazing for its genre. I think it breaks some cliches though, especially Chang Chen. There is such a rigid idea of what a FL and ML should look like in C dramas, and wow are C drama audiences biased when it comes to age... I prefer a more mature lead over a little flower boy, especially for a role like the God of War... Surely, he should be a bit more ruggedly handsome.
They also had major issues with Zhang Ziyi in Rebel Princess because of her age, but imo that is also an absolutely amazing drama and she was epic in it.
I tried to watch this was got bored 5 eps in. I love these actors too. But it felt abit forced and since it did…
This drama is in my top 5, but I love the xianxia genre. Imo, it's wonderful, all the highs and lows. Give it another chance and come back to it with fresh eyes. :-)
Eternal Love was a mishmash of the first and second books. It also has a different vibe from this drama, but they are of a similar calibre. Feng Jiu and Dong Hua Dijun in this drama are much more likeable and the story is quite different. I think the costumes and styling, especially for Dijun is better in Eternal Love through. He looks far more aloof and majestic. I would say watch Eternal Love first, and then watch this. The story of Bai Qian and Ye Hua happens earlier. Feng Jiu is born during Eternal Love.
I, and my sister love this drama very much. I, and my sister look forward more Dilraba's dramas
I love Dilraba too. She has a great balance between strong, clever, cute and quirky. I never find her cuteness annoying like I do with a lot of C drama FLs.
Wow. That was a hard drama to finish, and I'm usually quite patient. It starts off with promise and the storyline is good, but the vibe is so flat somehow, the highs and lows don't pack that big a punch. This storyline had major comedy potential but it really just didn't deliver. A lot of the "funny scenes" just weren't that funny in the end... It's strange because as a drama it had a lot of great building blocks, an interesting theme, some potentially hilarious interactions and events, a high production value, but somehow it just made me go "meh". Shame...
This drama is legit hilarious, but did anyone else think the ending wasn't that great? For one, the King fell in love with the soul of Jang Bong Hwan. He should have got to stay in the body of the Queen.
