Hmm. I don't mind tragedy (and C dramas really know how to do tragedy) as long as there are some light moments to give your heart a break. "Royal Nirvana" for me failed in that regard because it was just relentlessly tragic...
I always advise people to stop on the penultimate episode for this drama because it has a happy ending. The last episode is a complete mess and there are vastly different interpretations of it. I personally feel that these sorts of dramas need to have happy endings because they're so long and I need that kind of ending to give me a feeling of completion. My heart can't take sad endings, especially when you've watched some 40 to 60 episodes of something.
We're talking about 40+ hours of your precious life, so please...please do not watch this. Ignore the folks rating…
I really enjoyed this drama, except for the last episode (which was a complete mess). Compared to sheer amount of low quality, fluffy C dramas, I would say this is a good drama! What didn't you like about it?
Am i the only one who loves lai yi like no one ❤️I just can’t resist his charm since legend of fuyao .well…
I really liked Lai Yi in Fuyao. The eccentric doctor was great. I personally think he overdid it a bit in this drama as Anye Luo. I like how insane he was, but I think he could have made it less melodramatic. I think that would have refined the character.
It's great if you like the wuxia genre. The first time I watched it through, I didn't understand all the plot twists. I think I liked it the best the second time I watched it. It has some really great aspects. One of my favourite soundtracks for one...
I started watching this but dropped it because I just found it so relentlessly heavy. It lacks some light, funny or heart-warming moments to give you a break. I also made the stupid mistake of googling the historical characters and then finding out what was going to happen... lol Don't do that.
When I was in the first part, I couldn't understand the criticism, but by the time I got to the next part, you really get this feeling that the drama has shifted to a documentary where it is just: this happened and then this happened.
What a mess, a mix of good and bad. They really bit off more than they could chew by trying to cover such a stretch of history. The first arc is good and you really start to relate to the characters and then that just disappears in the second arc until I completely lost interest by the third. This wasn't the fault of the actors. The sets and costumes were all great. But the writing and the directing and the just whole flow of the story is all wrong. I very rarely drop dramas but really I couldn't bear to watch past 46 episodes. This would have been better to divide into 2 or 3 seasons or dramas so that you get some continuity. When main characters die off, you lose that continuity.
Okay if I have to be honest, when I watched this in 2016, I didn't see a problem with the FL. But now I tried…
So painful when that happens. I recently rewatched some favourites from 10-15 years ago and omg, cringe... Funny how some things become so dated after a while and your more mature eyes see characters in a different light.

What are your favourite C dramas?
