what's the difference between a wuxia drama and xiaxia
This is a huge source of confusion for a lot of people, myself included, but someone cleared this up for me. Both may have martial arts and sects, but in xianxia, there is magic and you can cultivate to become an immortal. So, a xianxia may take place in a sect in the mortal realm where they are cultivating to become immortal (e.g. Journey of Chongzi/Ever Night), or may be set mostly in the realm of the gods or immortals (e.g. Ancient Love Poetry, 10 Miles of Peach Blossom) or may be about spiritual beings/animals cultivating (e.g. Legend of the White Snake).
A wuxia on the other hand is about the martial arts world (Jianghu) without magic, gods, spirits, immortals, demons or cultivators (e.g. Side Story of Fox Volant).
Omg leave actors alone! They are human beings just like the rest of us. They laugh, love, cry, poo, fart and have sex. Unless there is a criminal act (e.g. Kris Wu/serial rapist), just leave their private lives alone. Anyone releasing pictures from someone's bedroom is the real criminal.
Just watched the first 2 episodes, which are great, but whoever did the sound editing should be sacked (but probably won't be). The sound of the voices often disappears and you can only hear the background music. This was quite common a few years ago, but has gotten better recently, so why screw up such a great drama with bad sound editing? Things that would never happen in the West lol.
is this good ? idk if i should start this or song of the moon first
Watchable but not that great. Quite slow. The first 2 episodes of Starry Love that I have watched so far were more entertaining than 20 episodes of Chongzi, plus Starry Love has amazing cinematography + CGI. However, if you have plenty of free time and need a filler, this will do.
Depends on your standards. Lower your expectations to avoid disappointment lol. If you can't stand the baby girl…
Omg it is the best, skip this and watch ALP! The CGI is amazing too, truly cinema worthy. Also the story and the characters are immensely complex and deep with some fantastic performances. The plot is like an unravelling secret that you don't fully understand until the end. I actually understood it a lot more the second time I watched it. It starts very light-hearted, but don't be fooled, the suffering is just around the corner lol.

In terms of style and quality, I'd say this drama is on a similar level (so far!) to dramas like Journey of Flower, Legend of Chusen and Immortal Samsara. If you have a lot of time on your hands and just want something to watch, this will do fine, if you are more selective with what you watch, and prefer to only watch the best dramas, then I'd say, there are better dramas out there.
Immortal Samsara had something similar about it. It was watchable but was only goodish, not great.
That's his role in it, perhaps he's just not your type of an actor. For me, he's one of the best chinese actors…
I would like to see him in a more mature production where he can really show us what he's got. He is so often in more "pop" dramas with the sweetness and nutritional profile of candy. I'd like to see him in a more serious drama.
His acting in Legend of Dugu was the strongest performance he has given imo.
Depends on your standards. Lower your expectations to avoid disappointment lol. If you can't stand the baby girl act, be aware you have to wait 16/17 episodes for the FL to become less annoying. I think it is watchable, but it does feel very young. Definitely not in the same league as the best xianxias like 10 Miles of Peach Blossom, Love & Destiny and Ancient Love Poetry. However, it is watchable and sufficiently enjoyable.
