Yeah...the problem with the drama is that they're making XW behave like an exuberant infant. It worked in the donhua because it included their years growing up-- she was acting her age, and TS x XW's doting, youthful romance was actually believable. Sadly, it completely nosedives in the second half imo. Telling would involve a huge spoiler..

A little advice to the uninitiated: if you're expecting lots of TS screen time right now you may be disappointed. The first third of the novel centers on the Shrek 7, their camaraderie, their instructors, tactical training, tournaments, SB hunting, etc. The overwhelming theme is teamwork rather than individual achievement. But don't let that deter you. Trust me, the more character work given to his teammates the better, because a) they become ultra important later on, and b) the rest of the novel focuses on TS (& XW ugggh) almost to a fault. I would have liked to see much more development of the villains in the novel..

Hu Liena. She would have been sooooo much better than XW as the love interest it's ridiculous.

It's Flander and Zhu Zhuqing who are turning in the best acting performances imo. I have to admit I like the new material around Fatty controlling his spirit. Bu Le seems to have taken on a greater purpose too. Next up..#8stagedrop LOL.

In terms of looking the parts, the actors for Fatty and Oscar should have been switched. I can't look at Oscar without thinking Fatty.

I pulled the biggest WTF when she appeared LOL. I share your love of HLN - TS x HLN Romeo/Juliet romance would have been SO much better than TS x XW, which is just awful in the second half imo.

So...already 12eps in and they burned 80min on a chicken poop mystery to introduce Fatty, Ning RongRong is MIA, Xiao Gang seems clueless for an expert in theory/tactics, Hu Liena is stalking everyone like a vampire (to start love triangle no doubt), Mubai is a supercilious asshole he never was in the novel, and they haven't even started any serious training yet. WTF is going on LOL? Actually I'm fine with them cutting a lot of the tournament material later, but they better start moving things along.

That's one area where the drama could really improve on the novel. The latter spent WAY too much time on tournaments imo.

Agreed. Censoring the reincarnation in this case completely guts the premise, and having the Tang arts passed down from his father makes no sense at all--his history makes absolutely no allowance/room for it. The fact that the Tang Sect abilities/knowledge originates from a different time/universe is what makes it so special TO TANG SAN only in the first place! One world's foundation is spirit abilities, another is based in assassin technology and the abilities to use it. Furthermore, by making him already a young adult from the beginning, it completely undermines the difficulty of cultivating those arts. By the time TS is 16 he'd already been cultivating those abilities for more than 10 years. Then, finally at the Continental Elite Tournament, all that work IS PIVOTAL in the battle against Spirit Hall (batwing rebound). The idea of a ring-less TS with no practice in Tang Sect abilities fighting a Man Faced Spider in the first episode is utterly ridiculous LOL.

If you think she's annoying now, just wait until later LOL.

If they follow the novel at all, Mubai will be slightly ahead of TS up through the CE tournament. A big flaw imo with the novel is that they all level up ridiculously fast in the latter third, so enjoy this part lol.

I'm pleasantly surprised with the SFX. I don't know what their budget was but it couldn't have been much, so they're really putting it to good work. My one complaint would be the spirit rings, which are WAY better in the anime. They're an important visual element that they kinda screwed up here imo.

I'd sure like to know where all this overt negativity is LOL. I had to scroll down through hundreds of comments just to find anything remotely "negative". If that's what counts as sharp criticism I'd say people here are gonna have a tough time in the real world lol. A forum that tolerates only one opinion is COMPLETELY useless.

The anime is 10x better imo but I'll continue watching. There's a lot I don't like about the novel either so...

I had to laugh at the Man Faced Demon spider making an appearance in the first ep--it sure got a demotion LOL. In reality, it would have had Su Yuntao and TS for lunch, along with the entire village. TS at level 30 barely escaped with his life (relying on the Godly Zhuge Crossbow) from a WOUNDED MFD spider.
