As far as Liu Yuning is concerned, he is already renowned for his background singing... I noticed him in 'Love and Redemption', at that time I didn't have any personal information regarding anyone from c-entertainment industry but his opening ost caught my attention. Glad he is getting more opportunities for acting as well.

Finished watching the series... It was fast paced and gripping... Peppered with mysterious bizarre cases, layered underneath bigger story arc of hidden identities and motives.

Episode 35 *I am glad that Qian Zhao did not commit Regicide that would have been most dishonorable. * The Emperor of Wu finally gained some backbone and took on the mantle of a worthy king. *Qian zhao dies an honorable death asking the Emperor of Wu to stay alive and fight. * Shisan kills the leader to Beipan in a spectacular move however Sun Lang is pierced by numerous arrows and succumbs to death. * For informing of the state of An of the invasion of Beipan people, Yuan Lu is chosen by Shisan. Shisan hoped to save Yuan Lu's life by sending him away from immediate danger of the next assault by Beipan in He County.
Episode 36 * Yuan Lu sped all the way to the state of An's capital to give the information regarding the invasion of Beipan(Northern Region) into central plains. * Disregarding his weak heart, he exhausted himself to reach Li Tongguang's mansion, he missed Ren Ruyi and Ning Yuanzhou on the way who were at the inn that Yuan Lu passed. (I wish he could have reunited with them, I felt his death could have been avoided) *Yuan Lu reached the Duke's mansion where he conveyed the message to Li Tongguang and Yang Ying. Yuan Lu and Yang Ying got to say final goodbye and promise each other to meet in their next lives as lovers. * The Emperor of An has forgiven the second prince and is ready to make him the crown prince, when Li Tongguang announces the invasion of Beipan, The Emperor of An is taken back for a moment but then as per his nature he decides to use this opportunity to stay in power by making a deal with Beipan people to pay them regular tribute and to allow them to pillage Wu state. * The Emperor of An puts Li Tongguang and Yang Ying under house arrest, he wants to send Duke Chu to his death and later claim credit for his planned strategic win against Beipan. * Chu Yue comes to Li Tongguang's mansion with Ruyi's and Ning's message to free them and ask Li Tongguang to help her father, Duke Chu. * Ruyi disguises herself as an attendant at the second prince's assession ceremony and holds the second prince captive, Ning Yuanzhou and Ruyi plan to expose the second prince and the Emperor of An in front of public.

Li Tongguang arrives he incapacitates Ruyi with muscle relaxer by stabbing her with the needle on his ring. * Li Tongguang's personal attendant stabs the Emperor of An in the chaos of capturing Ruyi ans Ning Yuanzhou. Li Tongguang's prompt action to make it seem the Emperor made Li Tongguang the Regent and caretaker of his infant son saves the situation. Li Tongguang becomes the Regent. *Li Tongguang tries to marry Ruyi who is under the influence of the drug but Ning Yuanzhou arrives, fights Li Tongguang and carries Ruyi away. Ruyi and Ning Yuanzhou get married that night. * Yang Ying comes to LI Tongguang's house to propose an alliance and extend military help from Wu and asks to marry Li Tongguang so they can rule together. When The Emperor of Wu opens the box there is a big explosion. * In the explosion The Emperor of Wu, leader of Shaxi tribe-Duke Chu, Duke Chu's and The left worthy prince of Beipan die. * With the news of the Emperor of Wu's death in the battlefield, the contenders of the crown in the State of Wu start jockeying for power. * Prince Danyang, Yang Xing Jian who was the acting regent decides to rally his troop and go to fight the invasion of Beipan as he knows he will be implicated in the assassination of The Emperor of Wu. * The Prime minister, Zhang Song arrives at Prince Danyang's palace and accuses him of Regicide. He orders the Prince Danyang to be arrested. Zhang Song plans to control the Empress Xiao Yan's unborn child to become regent. He has also arranged for the child to be switched at birth if it would be a girl. * while the fight between Zhang Song's guards and prince Danyan along with his men is going on, the pregnant (now) Dowager Empress arrives with The third Prince Ying. She calls for a court session while telling both, Zhang Song and Prince Danyang that she is holding their family members hostage. *In the court The Empress declares the demise of the Emperor of Wu and asks Prince Danyang to ascend the throne, asking Prince Danyang to protect her and her unborn child as well as work in harmony with the Prime Minister. * Prince Danyang goes to the family temple along with Prince Ying, where Prince Ying treacherously slams Prince Danyang with the overhead plaque.The crippled, Prince Ying also had plotted to abort the Empress's unborn child so there would be no legitimate ruler alive except himself. * However Ning Yuanzhou and Reb Ruyi save the day, after Prince Ying boastfully confesses his role in aiding the assassination of The Emperor of Wu in front of The dowager Empress that was overheard by hidden members of the court, Ren Ruyi kills Prince Ying with her knife. * Ning Yuanzhou hands over the last command and will of the deceased Emperor, according to the edict, Prince Danyang would ascend to the throne. *Prince Danyang makes Ning Yuanzhou, Marquis Jingyuan. * Prince Danyan leaves the state affairs in the hands of the Prime Minister and the dowager Empress while he goes to fight against the invasion of Beipan himself. Episode 39 * The battle with Beipan continues. Chu Yue and Yang Ying come to He County with reinforcement and provisions. *heart to heart talk between Ruyi and Yang Ying.. Sweet moments between Ning Yuanzhou and Ruyi; Yu Shisan and Chu Yue. * The new Emperor of Wu is on his way with more soldiers but is slowed down by Chu state and many men coming together. * Beipan army tries to draw everyone out of the fortress. * Li Tongguan upon seeing that Beipan leader is ready to sacrifice some captured people from An state, against the advice of Deng Hui divides his force into two separate direction. This wrong decision of his makes Ning Yuanzhou, Ren Ruyi and Yu Shisan come out into the battlefield. * on the battlefield, Li Tongguan softens and tries to help a hurt soldier Beipan soldier use this to ambush him. He is saved by Demg Hui who is stabbed with huge sword. Deng Hui advises Li Tongguan again not to be soft as a Regent and take tough decisions. Ruyi forcefully takes Li Tongguan back to safety of the fortress. *Ning Yuanzhou and Yu Shisan are surrounded by soldiers they have a drink together and decide to seperate while returning back to the fortress. *on his way back Yu Shisan saves Chu Yue who was fighting on the battlefield and both gallop on a horse back to fortress when an explosive lands near them, blinding Yu Shisan. *Yu Shisan sends Chu Yue back to the fortress on a horse and dies while fighting the invaders.
Episode 40 * Li Tongguan is upset that his decision to divide his army led to death of Deng Hui and Yu Shisan. *Li Tongguan leaves a letter for Ruyi before going alone to assassinate the King of Beipan to end the war because he feels guilty. Ruyi and Ning Yuanzhou reads the letter brought by Yang Ying. Ning Yuanzhou goes out in the battlefield at night to bring Li Tongguan back safe. *Ning Yuanzhou catches up to Li Tongguan who is surrounded by Beipan army trying to push his way forward. Ning Yuanzhou and Li Tongguan have a brief conversation where Li Tongguan accepts Ning Yuanzhou as his master. *Ning Yuanzhou sends Li Tongguan back to the fortress, he promises to follow Li Tongguan but is attacked by many soldiers. *Beipan army has breached the fortress by climbing up on the wall with big ladders, Ruyi who is fighting Beipan invaders on the fortress wall, manages to pull Li Tongguan safely. However Ning Yuanzhou dies due to multiple injuries. *After Ning Yuanzhou's death, Ruyi decides to assassinate the Beipan King and the Left worthy prince. She dresses up as the dowager Emptess of An and under the pretext of asking for asylum from Left worthy prince takes the opportunity to stab the Beipan king in his neck as well as The Left worthy price, after that she uses the explosives left by Yuan Lu to blow the Beipan tent along with herself and other important people. *Reinforcement arrive soon when Prince Danyang reaches He county with his soldiers. State of An and State of Wu wins the battle against the Beipan, who retreat back to their Northern Regioy. *Posthumously, Ruyi ia conferred the title of Marquis Xuanping. * After 10 years or so..... *There are children studying, Chu Yue is in a green field in state of An, it is the day to celebrate the coming of age of the Emperor. She sees someone in white clothes galloping towards her in the field, the person identifies himself as Ning Shisan and says he has a younger sister called Ren Lu, Chu Yue infers that he is a child of Ning Yuanzhou and Ren Ruyi and accompanies the child to his home, hand in hand. Chu Yue also sees all the 6 fallen heroes ( Yu Shisan, Yuan Lu, Ning Yuanzhou, Ren Ruyi, Qian Zhao, Sun Lang) riding on horses in that field.
*************** The ending is quite ambiguous, it is open to multiple interpretation. I believe that Chu Yue fell asleep on that field and because it was an important day, coming of age of the Emperor. Of An, she dreamed up a pleasant scenario. All those people whom she saw on that field were only present in her dream world.... But everyone can believe what suits them as it is quite open for any conclusion. ********************

These episodes were quite emotionally draining to watch, but after sharing the journey of these characters, I would never think of abandoning them, so I accompanied them till the very end.
I had written a similar note on the page of another drama, I am more or less rehashing it here too. Death of characters immortalises them and makes them unforgettable in the history books. People who survive such ordeal and continue to live a normal life are often forgotten. (I always prefer the characters to live because I am a sucker for happy ending) However nobody can deny the impact that death of beloved characters leave on the viewers. This series foreshadowed death and gloom for the delegation team from the very beginning in numerous manner from the opening OST lyrics to all characters always talking about the present, preparing the viewers for the inevitable parting. Sometimes similar series hint at the demise of many characters but they all survive in the end which feels quite anticlimatic, I have to applaud this series for remaining consistent in its narrative.
From my viewpoint the message that this series gave from the beginning is to live your life without regret, enjoying small pleasures that it offers in the company of people whom you treasure and value. Don't think about the end or death because it 'will come when it will come'.

Throughout the journey we saw the members of this delegation enjoying small moments, celebrating life, supporting their companions and providing comfort and unwavering support to each other. They helped Yang Ying gain self confidence. In the end HOW you live your life is more important than HOW LONG you live your life.
There is also a contrast between the war in the beginning, the deaths of soldiers were considered futile THEN because the Emperor was waging a war for his ego, disregarding good advice believing untrustworthy people. However the war in the end with Beipan people was necessary to protect their land from foreign invasion therefore the soldiers were willing to fight in that war choosing to die as martyrs to protect their country. Peace should be chosen above war everytime, but what if the enemy come knocking at your door? Will the brave soldiers surrender and allow the enemy to loot the citizens and pillage the villages OR will they fight till death to safeguard their motherland?

Episode 36 * Yuan Lu sped all the way to the state of An's capital to give the information regarding the invasion of Beipan(Northern Region) into central plains. * Disregarding his weak heart, he exhausted himself to reach Li Tongguang's mansion, he missed Ren Ruyi and Ning Yuanzhou on the way who were at the inn that Yuan Lu passed. (I wish he could have reunited with them, I felt his death could have been avoided) *Yuan Lu reached the Duke's mansion where he conveyed the message to Li Tongguang and Yang Ying. Yuan Lu and Yang Ying got to say final goodbye and promise each other to meet in their next lives as lovers. * The Emperor of An has forgiven the second prince and is ready to make him the crown prince, when Li Tongguang announces the invasion of Beipan, The Emperor of An is taken back for a moment but then as per his nature he decides to use this opportunity to stay in power by making a deal with Beipan people to pay them regular tribute and to allow them to pillage Wu state. * The Emperor of An puts Li Tongguang and Yang Ying under house arrest, he wants to send Duke Chu to his death and later claim credit for his planned strategic win against Beipan. * Chu Yue comes to Li Tongguang's mansion with Ruyi's and Ning's message to free them and ask Li Tongguang to help her father, Duke Chu. * Ruyi disguises herself as an attendant at the second prince's assession ceremony and holds the second prince captive, Ning Yuanzhou and Ruyi plan to expose the second prince and the Emperor of An in front of public.
Episode 37 * Ruyi takes second prince hostage in the ceremony and makes him confess in front of the public the Emperor's plan to help Beipan people. * Ruyi stabs and throws the second pronce down the stairs where commander Deng Hui chokes the second prince to death. *Ning Yuanzhou and Ruyi ask the Emperor to send troops to help stop the Beipan. Li Tongguang arrives he incapacitates Ruyi with muscle relaxer by stabbing her with the needle on his ring. * Li Tongguang's personal attendant stabs the Emperor of An in the chaos of capturing Ruyi ans Ning Yuanzhou. Li Tongguang's prompt action to make it seem the Emperor made Li Tongguang the Regent and caretaker of his infant son saves the situation. Li Tongguang becomes the Regent. *Li Tongguang tries to marry Ruyi who is under the influence of the drug but Ning Yuanzhou arrives, fights Li Tongguang and carries Ruyi away. Ruyi and Ning Yuanzhou get married that night. * Yang Ying comes to LI Tongguang's house to propose an alliance and extend military help from Wu and asks to marry Li Tongguang so they can rule together. Yang Ying and Li Tongguang get married. *Ning Yuanzhou gets note of the demise of His three friends. He goes to He County post haste and wins a victory over Beipan.
Episode 38 * The focus of this episode is stabilising the State of Wu's political structure. * The Beipan army surrenders after their defeat in the previous episode, however under the pretext of surrendering the crown of Left worthy prince of Beipan to the Emperor of Wu, the left worthy prince uses hidden explosives in the box supposedly contaning the crown. When The Emperor of Wu opens the box there is a big explosion. * In the explosion The Emperor of Wu, leader of Shaxi tribe-Duke Chu, Duke Chu's and The left worthy prince of Beipan die. * With the news of the Emperor of Wu's death in the battlefield, the contenders of the crown in the State of Wu start jockeying for power. * Prince Danyang, Yang Xing Jian who was the acting regent decides to rally his troop and go to fight the invasion of Beipan as he knows he will be implicated in the assassination of The Emperor of Wu. * The Prime minister, Zhang Song arrives at Prince Danyang's palace and accuses him of Regicide. He orders the Prince Danyang to be arrested. Zhang Song plans to control the Empress Xiao Yan's unborn child to become regent. He has also arranged for the child to be switched at birth if it would be a girl. * while the fight between Zhang Song's guards and prince Danyan along with his men is going on, the pregnant (now) Dowager Empress arrives with The third Prince Ying. She calls for a court session while telling both, Zhang Song and Prince Danyang that she is holding their family members hostage. *In the court The Empress declares the demise of the Emperor of Wu and asks Prince Danyang to ascend the throne, asking Prince Danyang to protect her and her unborn child as well as work in harmony with the Prime Minister. * Prince Danyang goes to the family temple along with Prince Ying, where Prince Ying treacherously slams Prince Danyang with the overhead plaque.The crippled, Prince Ying also had plotted to abort the Empress's unborn child so there would be no legitimate ruler alive except himself. * However Ning Yuanzhou and Reb Ruyi save the day, after Prince Ying boastfully confesses his role in aiding the assassination of The Emperor of Wu in front of The dowager Empress that was overheard by hidden members of the court, Ren Ruyi kills Prince Ying with her knife. * Ning Yuanzhou hands over the last command and will of the deceased Emperor, according to the edict, Prince Danyang would ascend to the throne. *Prince Danyang makes Ning Yuanzhou, Marquis Jingyuan. * Prince Danyan leaves the state affairs in the hands of the Prime Minister and the dowager Empress while he goes to fight against the invasion of Beipan himself. He declares Prince Ying's private property should be used to fund the war. * prime minister, Zhang Song and Ning Yuanzhou have a private conversation before Ning Yuanzhou goes back on the warfront. Ning Yuanzhou reveals that the Emperor of Wu had given two edicts to Ning Yuanzhou on his death bed, one for the unborn child of The Emperor to rule according to which, Prime Minister would be in power being the regent and other to make Prince Danyang the Emperor. Ning Yuanzhou chose present the edict for Prince Danyang to ascend on throne looking at the situation of the court when he had arrived. *The Prime Minister in good faith gives the antidote for ten-day Qianji pill with which he had attempted to control Ning Yuanzhou. Ning Yuanzhou burns the other edict.
Episode 39 * The battle with Beipan continues. Chu Yue and Yang Ying come to He County with reinforcement and provisions. *heart to heart talk between Ruyi and Yang Ying.. Sweet moments between Ning Yuanzhou and Ruyi; Yu Shisan and Chu Yue. * The new Emperor of Wu is on his way with more soldiers but is slowed down by Chu state and many men coming together. * Beipan army tries to draw everyone out of the fortress. * Li Tongguan upon seeing that Beipan leader is ready to sacrifice some captured people from An state, against the advice of Deng Hui divides his force into two separate direction. This wrong decision of his makes Ning Yuanzhou, Ren Ruyi and Yu Shisan come out into the battlefield. * on the battlefield, Li Tongguan softens and tries to help a hurt soldier Beipan soldier use this to ambush him. He is saved by Demg Hui who is stabbed with huge sword. Deng Hui advises Li Tongguan again not to be soft as a Regent and take tough decisions. Ruyi forcefully takes Li Tongguan back to safety of the fortress. *Ning Yuanzhou and Yu Shisan are surrounded by soldiers they have a drink together and decide to seperate while returning back to the fortress. *on his way back Yu Shisan saves Chu Yue who was fighting on the battlefield and both gallop on a horse back to fortress when an explosive lands near them, blinding Yu Shisan. *Yu Shisan sends Chu Yue back to the fortress on a horse and dies while fighting the invaders.
Episode 40 * Li Tongguan is upset that his decision to divide his army led to death of Deng Hui and Yu Shisan. *Li Tongguan leaves a letter for Ruyi before going alone to assassinate the King of Beipan to end the war because he feels guilty. Ruyi and Ning Yuanzhou reads the letter brought by Yang Ying. Ning Yuanzhou goes out in the battlefield at night to bring Li Tongguan back safe. *Ning Yuanzhou catches up to Li Tongguan who is surrounded by Beipan army trying to push his way forward. Ning Yuanzhou and Li Tongguan have a brief conversation where Li Tongguan accepts Ning Yuanzhou as his master. *Ning Yuanzhou sends Li Tongguan back to the fortress, he promises to follow Li Tongguan but is attacked by many soldiers. *Beipan army has breached the fortress by climbing up on the wall with big ladders, Ruyi who is fighting Beipan invaders on the fortress wall, manages to pull Li Tongguan safely. However Ning Yuanzhou dies due to multiple injuries. *After Ning Yuanzhou's death, Ruyi decides to assassinate the Beipan King and the Left worthy prince. She dresses up as the dowager Emptess of An and under the pretext of asking for asylum from Left worthy prince takes the opportunity to stab the Beipan king in his neck as well as The Left worthy price, after that she uses the explosives left by Yuan Lu to blow the Beipan tent along with herself and other important people. *Reinforcement arrive soon when Prince Danyang reaches He county with his soldiers. State of An and State of Wu wins the battle against the Beipan, who retreat back to their Northern Regioy. *Posthumously, Ruyi ia conferred the title of Marquis Xuanping. * After 10 years or so..... *There are children studying, Chu Yue is in a green field in state of An, it is the day to celebrate the coming of age of the Emperor. She sees someone in white clothes galloping towards her in the field, the person identifies himself as Ning Shisan and says he has a younger sister called Ren Lu, Chu Yue infers that he is a child of Ning Yuanzhou and Ren Ruyi and accompanies the child to his home, hand in hand. Chu Yue also sees all the 6 fallen heroes ( Yu Shisan, Yuan Lu, Ning Yuanzhou, Ren Ruyi, Qian Zhao, Sun Lang) riding on horses in that field.
*************** The ending is quite ambiguous, it is open to multiple interpretation. I believe that Chu Yue fell asleep on that field and because it was an important day, coming of age of the Emperor. Of An, she dreamed up a pleasant scenario. All those people whom she saw on that field were only present in her dream world.... But everyone can believe what suits them as it is quite open for any conclusion. ********************

Episode 35 to 40
These episodes were quite emotionally draining to watch, but after sharing the journey of these characters, I would never think of abandoning them, so I accompanied them till the very end.
I had written a similar note on the page of another drama, I am more or less rehashing it here too. Death of characters immortalises them and makes them unforgettable in the history books. People who survive such ordeal and continue to live a normal life are often forgotten. (I always prefer the characters to live because I am a sucker for happy ending) However nobody can deny the impact that death of beloved characters leave on the viewers. This series foreshadowed death and gloom for the delegation team from the very beginning in numerous manner from the opening OST lyrics to all characters always talking about the present, preparing the viewers for the inevitable parting. Sometimes similar series hint at the demise of many characters but they all survive in the end which feels quite anticlimatic, I have to applaud this series for remaining consistent in its narrative.
From my viewpoint the message that this series gave from the beginning is to live your life without regret, enjoying small pleasures that it offers in the company of people whom you treasure and value. Don't think about the end or death because it 'will come when it will come'.

Throughout the journey we saw the members of this delegation enjoying small moments, celebrating life, supporting their companions and providing comfort and unwavering support to each other. They helped Yang Ying gain self confidence. In the end HOW you live your life is more important than HOW LONG you live your life.
There is also a contrast between the war in the beginning, the deaths of soldiers were considered futile THEN because the Emperor was waging a war for his ego, disregarding good advice believing untrustworthy people. However the war in the end with Beipan people was necessary to protect their land from foreign invasion therefore the soldiers were willing to fight in that war choosing to die as martyrs to protect their country. Peace should be chosen above war everytime, but what if the enemy come knocking at your door? Will the brave soldiers surrender and allow the enemy to loot the citizens and pillage the villages OR will they fight till death to safeguard their motherland?

I too hope that Qian Zhao doesn't assassinate the Emperor, it would be counter productive to what he was trying to achieve, absolution for Heaven path members. By killing the Emperor the guards would be considered traitors.

I think she will succeed, she has come a long way from the naive girl she was, she has tasted power and wants to be powerful... If Li Tongguang supports her and with the help of Wu spies in An state she can gain power... Either way.. But episode 34 set up for more urgent ear with Beipan people so who knows what will happen.

The Emperor of Wu state wrote an edict in his blood on the flag to honour the Heaven Path scouts who died in the battlefield clearing their name. He also realized his error in going to the war... This seems like his days are numbered, when ever a character redeems themselves in such series they are doomed to die.

No information regarding roles yet... But from initial synopsis, this drama seems to be like 'hilarious family' Chinese drama or for western reference, like the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
I am wondering which other drama page will we meet again in future.
As far as Liu Yuning is concerned, he is already renowned for his background singing... I noticed him in 'Love and Redemption', at that time I didn't have any personal information regarding anyone from c-entertainment industry but his opening ost caught my attention. Glad he is getting more opportunities for acting as well.

Chu Yue also sees all the 6 fallen heroes ( Yu Shisan, Yuan Lu, Ning Yuanzhou, Ren Ruyi, Qian Zhao, Sun Lang) riding on horses in that field.

The ending is quite ambiguous, it is open to multiple interpretation. I believe that Chu Yue fell asleep on that field and because it was an important day, coming of age of the Emperor. Of An, she dreamed up a pleasant scenario. All those people whom she saw on that field were only present in her dream world.... But everyone can believe what suits them as it is quite open for any conclusion.

Episode 36
* Yuan Lu sped all the way to the state of An's capital to give the information regarding the invasion of Beipan(Northern Region) into central plains.
* Disregarding his weak heart, he exhausted himself to reach Li Tongguang's mansion, he missed Ren Ruyi and Ning Yuanzhou on the way who were at the inn that Yuan Lu passed. (I wish he could have reunited with them, I felt his death could have been avoided)
*Yuan Lu reached the Duke's mansion where he conveyed the message to Li Tongguang and Yang Ying. Yuan Lu and Yang Ying got to say final goodbye and promise each other to meet in their next lives as lovers.
* The Emperor of An has forgiven the second prince and is ready to make him the crown prince, when Li Tongguang announces the invasion of Beipan, The Emperor of An is taken back for a moment but then as per his nature he decides to use this opportunity to stay in power by making a deal with Beipan people to pay them regular tribute and to allow them to pillage Wu state.
* The Emperor of An puts Li Tongguang and Yang Ying under house arrest, he wants to send Duke Chu to his death and later claim credit for his planned strategic win against Beipan.
* Chu Yue comes to Li Tongguang's mansion with Ruyi's and Ning's message to free them and ask Li Tongguang to help her father, Duke Chu.
* Ruyi disguises herself as an attendant at the second prince's assession ceremony and holds the second prince captive, Ning Yuanzhou and Ruyi plan to expose the second prince and the Emperor of An in front of public.
Episode 37
* Ruyi takes second prince hostage in the ceremony and makes him confess in front of the public the Emperor's plan to help Beipan people.
* Ruyi stabs and throws the second pronce down the stairs where commander Deng Hui chokes the second prince to death.
*Ning Yuanzhou and Ruyi ask the Emperor to send troops to help stop the Beipan. Li Tongguang arrives he incapacitates Ruyi with muscle relaxer by stabbing her with the needle on his ring.
* Li Tongguang's personal attendant stabs the Emperor of An in the chaos of capturing Ruyi ans Ning Yuanzhou. Li Tongguang's prompt action to make it seem the Emperor made Li Tongguang the Regent and caretaker of his infant son saves the situation. Li Tongguang becomes the Regent.
*Li Tongguang tries to marry Ruyi who is under the influence of the drug but Ning Yuanzhou arrives, fights Li Tongguang and carries Ruyi away. Ruyi and Ning Yuanzhou get married that night.
* Yang Ying comes to LI Tongguang's house to propose an alliance and extend military help from Wu and asks to marry Li Tongguang so they can rule together. Yang Ying and Li Tongguang get married.
*Ning Yuanzhou gets note of the demise of His three friends. He goes to He County post haste and wins a victory over Beipan.
Episode 38
* The focus of this episode is stabilising the State of Wu's political structure.
* The Beipan army surrenders after their defeat in the previous episode, however under the pretext of surrendering the crown of Left worthy prince of Beipan to the Emperor of Wu, the left worthy prince uses hidden explosives in the box supposedly contaning the crown. When The Emperor of Wu opens the box there is a big explosion.
* In the explosion The Emperor of Wu, leader of Shaxi tribe-Duke Chu, Duke Chu's and The left worthy prince of Beipan die.
* With the news of the Emperor of Wu's death in the battlefield, the contenders of the crown in the State of Wu start jockeying for power.
* Prince Danyang, Yang Xing Jian who was the acting regent decides to rally his troop and go to fight the invasion of Beipan as he knows he will be implicated in the assassination of The Emperor of Wu.
* The Prime minister, Zhang Song arrives at Prince Danyang's palace and accuses him of Regicide. He orders the Prince Danyang to be arrested. Zhang Song plans to control the Empress Xiao Yan's unborn child to become regent. He has also arranged for the child to be switched at birth if it would be a girl.
* while the fight between Zhang Song's guards and prince Danyan along with his men is going on, the pregnant (now) Dowager Empress arrives with The third Prince Ying. She calls for a court session while telling both, Zhang Song and Prince Danyang that she is holding their family members hostage.
*In the court The Empress declares the demise of the Emperor of Wu and asks Prince Danyang to ascend the throne, asking Prince Danyang to protect her and her unborn child as well as work in harmony with the Prime Minister.
* Prince Danyang goes to the family temple along with Prince Ying, where Prince Ying treacherously slams Prince Danyang with the overhead plaque.The crippled, Prince Ying also had plotted to abort the Empress's unborn child so there would be no legitimate ruler alive except himself.
* However Ning Yuanzhou and Reb Ruyi save the day, after Prince Ying boastfully confesses his role in aiding the assassination of The Emperor of Wu in front of The dowager Empress that was overheard by hidden members of the court, Ren Ruyi kills Prince Ying with her knife.
* Ning Yuanzhou hands over the last command and will of the deceased Emperor, according to the edict, Prince Danyang would ascend to the throne.
*Prince Danyang makes Ning Yuanzhou, Marquis Jingyuan.
* Prince Danyan leaves the state affairs in the hands of the Prime Minister and the dowager Empress while he goes to fight against the invasion of Beipan himself. He declares Prince Ying's private property should be used to fund the war.
* prime minister, Zhang Song and Ning Yuanzhou have a private conversation before Ning Yuanzhou goes back on the warfront. Ning Yuanzhou reveals that the Emperor of Wu had given two edicts to Ning Yuanzhou on his death bed, one for the unborn child of The Emperor to rule according to which, Prime Minister would be in power being the regent and other to make Prince Danyang the Emperor. Ning Yuanzhou chose present the edict for Prince Danyang to ascend on throne looking at the situation of the court when he had arrived.
*The Prime Minister in good faith gives the antidote for ten-day Qianji pill with which he had attempted to control Ning Yuanzhou. Ning Yuanzhou burns the other edict.
Episode 39
* The battle with Beipan continues. Chu Yue and Yang Ying come to He County with reinforcement and provisions.
*heart to heart talk between Ruyi and Yang Ying.. Sweet moments between Ning Yuanzhou and Ruyi; Yu Shisan and Chu Yue.
* The new Emperor of Wu is on his way with more soldiers but is slowed down by Chu state and many men coming together.
* Beipan army tries to draw everyone out of the fortress.
* Li Tongguan upon seeing that Beipan leader is ready to sacrifice some captured people from An state, against the advice of Deng Hui divides his force into two separate direction. This wrong decision of his makes Ning Yuanzhou, Ren Ruyi and Yu Shisan come out into the battlefield.
* on the battlefield, Li Tongguan softens and tries to help a hurt soldier Beipan soldier use this to ambush him. He is saved by Demg Hui who is stabbed with huge sword. Deng Hui advises Li Tongguan again not to be soft as a Regent and take tough decisions. Ruyi forcefully takes Li Tongguan back to safety of the fortress.
*Ning Yuanzhou and Yu Shisan are surrounded by soldiers they have a drink together and decide to seperate while returning back to the fortress.
*on his way back Yu Shisan saves Chu Yue who was fighting on the battlefield and both gallop on a horse back to fortress when an explosive lands near them, blinding Yu Shisan.
*Yu Shisan sends Chu Yue back to the fortress on a horse and dies while fighting the invaders.
Episode 40
* Li Tongguan is upset that his decision to divide his army led to death of Deng Hui and Yu Shisan.
*Li Tongguan leaves a letter for Ruyi before going alone to assassinate the King of Beipan to end the war because he feels guilty. Ruyi and Ning Yuanzhou reads the letter brought by Yang Ying. Ning Yuanzhou goes out in the battlefield at night to bring Li Tongguan back safe.
*Ning Yuanzhou catches up to Li Tongguan who is surrounded by Beipan army trying to push his way forward. Ning Yuanzhou and Li Tongguan have a brief conversation where Li Tongguan accepts Ning Yuanzhou as his master.
*Ning Yuanzhou sends Li Tongguan back to the fortress, he promises to follow Li Tongguan but is attacked by many soldiers.
*Beipan army has breached the fortress by climbing up on the wall with big ladders, Ruyi who is fighting Beipan invaders on the fortress wall, manages to pull Li Tongguan safely. However Ning Yuanzhou dies due to multiple injuries.
*After Ning Yuanzhou's death, Ruyi decides to assassinate the Beipan King and the Left worthy prince. These episodes were quite emotionally draining to watch, but after sharing the journey of these characters, I would never think of abandoning them, so I accompanied them till the very end.
I had written a similar note on the page of another drama, I am more or less rehashing it here too. Death of characters immortalises them and makes them unforgettable in the history books. People who survive such ordeal and continue to live a normal life are often forgotten. (I always prefer the characters to live because I am a sucker for happy ending) However nobody can deny the impact that death of beloved characters leave on the viewers. This series foreshadowed death and gloom for the delegation team from the very beginning in numerous manner from the opening OST lyrics to all characters always talking about the present, preparing the viewers for the inevitable parting. Sometimes similar series hint at the demise of many characters but they all survive in the end which feels quite anticlimatic, I have to applaud this series for remaining consistent in its narrative.
From my viewpoint the message that this series gave from the beginning is to live your life without regret, enjoying small pleasures that it offers in the company of people whom you treasure and value. Don't think about the end or death because it 'will come when it will come'.

Throughout the journey we saw the members of this delegation enjoying small moments, celebrating life, supporting their companions and providing comfort and unwavering support to each other. They helped Yang Ying gain self confidence. In the end HOW you live your life is more important than HOW LONG you live your life.
There is also a contrast between the war in the beginning, the deaths of soldiers were considered futile THEN because the Emperor was waging a war for his ego, disregarding good advice believing untrustworthy people. However the war in the end with Beipan people was necessary to protect their land from foreign invasion therefore the soldiers were willing to fight in that war choosing to die as martyrs to protect their country. Peace should be chosen above war everytime, but what if the enemy come knocking at your door? Will the brave soldiers surrender and allow the enemy to loot the citizens and pillage the villages OR will they fight till death to safeguard their motherland?

There is also a contrast between the war in the beginning, the deaths of soldiers were considered futile THEN because the Emperor was waging a war for his ego, disregarding good advice believing untrustworthy people. However the war in the end with Beipan people was necessary to protect their land from foreign invasion therefore the soldiers were willing to fight in that war choosing to die as martyrs to protect their country. Peace should be chosen above war everytime, but what if the enemy come knocking at your door? Will the brave soldiers surrender and allow the enemy to loot the citizens and pillage the villages OR will they fight till death to safeguard their motherland?

This seems like his days are numbered, when ever a character redeems themselves in such series they are doomed to die.
Looking at the flashback of Yang Ying and Ning Yuanzhou we realise how far we have come from the beginning of the series, quite nostalgic.
