However, this drama had several problems. Firstly, you have to be very patient while watching it. At first the big problem was Sunwoo Inyoung, and how the character was portrayed. But then there were more and more characters making stupid decisions and doing things that were not understandable. Secondly, there were characters that, I feel, never experienced the thing called "character growth". Next, I hated how sometimes (or more often than that) it seemed like they are trying to normalize cheating. Cheating is not normal, not okay, should not be forgiven and should not be done that easily! Also, sometimes it was hard to understand -- do they not know how to portray the problem or are they actually just laughing at it and trying to make it seem not serious enough? And last but not least, I feel like the ending did not end things properly, if that makes sense.
Maybe right now it sounds like this drama is terrible and maybe the things I mentioned will end up being the reasons I eventually lower my rating, but honestly. :D If you are looking for something to just spend your free time on, something to kill your boredom with, something different from the usual korean dramas... This could be the right choice for you. But don't go into this expecting a masterpiece, then you will most probably end up disappointed.
Honestly the only reason I didn't give it a perfect rating was because it felt a little too rushed at some parts and the very last sentence made me a little confused. Otherwise: 10/10 would recommend!
Even though it sometimes felt like things got a bit out of hand maybe, went a bit overboard somehow, I think this might be one of the best melodramas out there.
The best parts of this were the twisted, unpredictable, smart characters and of course, Song Joongki, who was perfect.
The thing I liked the least: despite the fact that at the very beginning I felt like I might find myself *loving* this, there were times and episodes where I just got too bored..
This *is* a drama for you if you like a complicated story line with very complex characters. You also need to give your full attention to it, otherwise there are just going to be holes in your interpretation of the plot. XD Also, this is a great drama if you want one with badass female characters! :D
I don't think I would easily recommend this to everyone, but this drama had it's strong points like acting, complicated character relationships, plot twists, great action and great characters, so if that's what you like in this drama, you will probably like this quite a lot!
I was very sceptical at first, but episode 3 or 4 won me over. The comedy was very good in this, and the whole drama was just very enjoyable and fun to watch. Yes, the romance could've been better, but the whole story of Hwarang was really good and their mutual friendship was adorable.
This drama sometimes struggled to keep me totally focused on it, but there were even times where I even missed watching it and couldn't wait for new episodes. :D
Acting-wise... There were actors I thought could have done much better, but I really enjoyed the acting of most hwarangs, especially Park Hyungsik (although I already knew how good he is), Minho (this was certainly his best drama) and Do Jihan (who I saw for the first time).
If you can't decide whether to watch this, I would still say you should give it a try, especially if you like historical dramas, precious friendships and pretty boys! :'D
Honestly, just the overall plot and the story and the way how they decided to tell it, I loved it. I loved how the relationship between the 17 and the 28 year old Liang grew. Nini is such a great actress, she showed the different sides of her character perfectly.
There were things I didn't like that much though. Like, I know Liang had a huge character development, but I hate how she begged Mao and Yan to love her. I also was not very sure what was the point of keeping Mao there throughout the whole movie, when their relationship did not even seem to have a real reason. Which was the opposite of her and Yan's. And despite the fact that I know that romance is not the main focus in the movie, I wish they would've let her stay with Yan. You could see at the end that in the end he still had feelings for her. ;-;
Now it maybe sounds like I am criticizing this too much but I still loved this a lot. One of the best chinese movies I have seen, and I would definitely recommend it!
Just the whole feel of it was so nice. The drama was kind of.. calm?, however, there were several mysteries involved and when watching this, I could barely take my eyes off the screen.
I loved all the characters, their growth, loved how different they all were and still managed to become so close with each other. Also, they all seemed so real. I teared up several times during this drama and actually cried a little, too. :'D This drama definitely knows how to make you feel.
Age of Youth is definitely a top class drama, 10/10 would recommend. The reason why I gave this "just" a 9, was because if that's the ending and we won't be getting a season 2... Let's just say there's enough stuff to make another season out of. :'D So *please*, jTBC, give us more of this, because these 12 episodes were amazing. <3
I feel like usually this much of a work in production is done only for movies, but this is a 16 episode drama where each episode is more than an hour long...
This drama is certainly a masterpiece. You have to realize though, that everyone might not love this drama the same, because the pace of the drama is quite slow at the beginning and it tends to become like that at some points during the drama as well. And that is the only reason I couldn't give this drama a perfect rating.
Otherwise, I loved it. It's the perfect winter drama and it gives you such a warm feeling. <3
I am so glad I started this though. This is a super sweet drama, which just warms your heart. It's cute, but they don't overdo it, it feels like reality, despite the fact that maybe, well, there aren't men like Jung Joonhyeong. XD
You really grow close to the characters in this one; Nam Joohyuk and Lee Sungkyung do amazing jobs in their roles, I am very convinced this is their best work yet, AND their chemistry is amazing.
100/10 would recommend!!!
