Gosh that synopsis sounds like the summary of the whole season 3, we don't have to watch it now. Also 80 episodes…
The original book is HUGE!!! The first two seasons (70+ eps) barely put a dent in the story. It would take another 80 eps to cover the rest of it. In the book, the bulk of the story was not really about Bi Yao and Zhang Xiaofan, but more about Zhang Xiaofan and everyone/everything else, especially his relationship with Lu Xueqi, who is his life partner/wife.
Yes, thank goodness the ending was happy. But I meant that watching and thinking about what they had to go through…
Yeah, I loved the book too! I read an online version, but now it is being released in a 5 volume paperback set (2,000+ pages). Look for my note about it in the discussion area.
Why were you heartbroken? It has a happy ending! A lot of people were confused because of editing after the censors got to it. But they are together at the end. In the book, they actually get married. None of that part can be shown due to Chinese censorship. So what we are left with is a sense of them remaining friends, but not together. After you watch it a few times you will notice that there is no loss between them. They are happily together.
Yes, the white one just showed up in episode 5. It was in inside the servants clothes, of course. It always amazes me how much stuff they can hide in ancient costume. lol
Ok. I just have to vent a bit. Just starting episode 4 and I can't focus for worrying what happened to the birds that fell out of the nest in episode 2. One white and one black - I get the metaphor. They agree to each save one bird. He takes the white bird and she gets the black bird (how sweet!). And then immediately the birds disappear. They go their separate ways and neither of them have a bird. Like every 10 minutes I have to stop and yell at the screen... What happened to the damn birds? ARGH!
So do these birds magically appear again later in the series or was this a filler to waste time?
Oh, but otherwise... I'm loving the series so far!!!
It's a happy ending, but if you blink you will miss it. ML returns and FL hears him calling, sees him in the distance and runs toward him. She barely starts moving toward his blurry figure and it abruptly ends. I watched it 2 or 3 times and then had to check the Baidu web synopsis to verify that I had interpreted the ending correctly. According to Baidu they will now lead a happy life together. So it's a happy moment. That's the impression I got from the ending too, but they sure didn't give the audience any time to savor the moment.
Translated ending from Baidu: "...Lanzhi and Minghui invited Yuanan to the mansion to reminisce about the old days, but Yuanan only thought about A Ying, she returned to the home after a long absence in despair, with memories of A Ying in her mind. At this moment, A Ying appeared in front of Yuan An and waved to her with a smile. Yuan An looked at A Ying with a happy smile, she ran to Prince A Ying desperately, and would live the long-awaited life with him."
Overall, I liked this drama. If you like the actors or enjoy fantasy (both for me!), you will likely be entertained. It's not for everyone, though. For me, I liked it well enough that I will probably eventually watch it again, if it is still available.

Is the ending satisfactory? I saw there is a season 2 but it ain't subbed.
It ends on a good note, but it's also a cliffhanger. The definitely more to the story. However, the main leads are alive and together, which is happy.
Season 2 picks up where season 1 left off. Sadly, I can't find subs either. I posted the question about subs on the Facebook page for season 1, but didn't get an answer.
The book writer got sued over plagarism. It is doubtful that it will get a second season soon. More likely, if…
Yes, it is. I can only suggest that you read the book or at least read through some of the summaries in the recent discussions section above. You will likely feel a lot better about things and can get that bad drama ending out of your head. Shame on the producers/writers/director for leaving us hanging like this. I guess they must have not guessed in advance that there would be no season 2. They must have been counting on it happening, too. But, here we are... still waiting and waiting.
Wow one of top 5 Chinese best drama I wonder when are they going to release season 2
The book writer got sued over plagarism. It is doubtful that it will get a second season soon. More likely, if it ever gets filmed again, someone will have to buy the rights and remake the entire series. That may never happen.
It's sad, because there's so much more to go in the story. The second part is better than the first.
Oh this is fun! I'm on episode 8, and I am so glad I watched this to see Zheng Ye Cheng dressed as a woman. He's so pretty that every man he encounters gets a nose bleed and does everything he asks.
Even so I'd like to think that the gods gave him power to be resurrected and permanently stays by her side. Previously…
Agreed. I was in disbelief. I thought that the gods would take pity on him and reward him for his sacrifice. But, no. We don't even know if he really appeared for their "date" or if it was just her imagination.
I'm just going to imagine it so. In fact, in the next frame they reunite and he is fully restored and can resume his place as Emperor of the Sea - full rights and privileges. He and Bai Ying marry and they live happily ever after. He even figures out how to extend her life. They have at least three kids, and have a happy family life. And the dragon has nothing to do except lay around and get fat. The end.
