Just finished ep 1, and found it fun and engaging. Nothing spectacular, but I don't expect spectacular from romcoms. I watch them to be entertained, and I was!
The Taiwanese version of Mischievous Kiss was one of my first dramas, but my hate for the ML is more all-consuming than a black hole. If he has zero haters, I'm dead. I kept watching because I was obsessed with Jiro Wang at the time (SML) and I loved the OST. I tried to watch Playful Kiss, and it was even worse. Never looked back.

Right?! Isn't it great? They have three different relationship arcs: enemies for the first 5 eps, friends/crushes for maybe the next ten or so? Then supportive lovers who take on the world for the rest of the drama. It's really refreshing, even though some people were disappointed because they wanted the leads to be more toxic LOL. Those viewers end up getting the toxicity they crave in another couple though, so it's all good.
(And no shade to people who like toxic relationships. Sometimes I like them too. It just depends).
Whoever wrote this vertical drama cared. It was so evident in the script. I loved the leads’ witty banter, poignant conversations about life and love, and the simmering chemistry between them. This drama was so well-made, it didn’t feel like a vertical short. It felt like a full-length slice of life.
Han Yu Tong dramas never disappoint! She’s so bubbly, and her eyes are so expressive. I didn’t think I’d be able to get immersed in dramas where she’s not paired with her IRL boyfriend Zeng Hui, but this drama proved me wrong. This is the first drama I’ve seen with Wang Kai Mu, and I’m impressed. I usually don’t like the whole CEO x Secretary dynamic (unless it’s RR :p). I don’t like spoiled, cynical CEO archetypes either, but Wang Kai Mu managed to bring this down-to-earth vulnerability to the role I really resonated with.
Overall, I was impressed with this drama and look forward to more projects with the leads.
This was my first Asian drama! My best friend from China showed it to me decades ago <3 I don’t remember a thing about it, but I remember that epic opening theme song.
This was really intense and engaging! I’m surprised by how much I enjoyed it! The acting was decent, and I was never bored with all the political plotting even though that’s something I usually don’t care about. All of the plotting was varied, so I had fun guessing what the FL would do next. Speaking of the FL, she was a huge red flag, but the short still did a good job humanizing her and making her sympathetic. The actress also did a solid job of portraying a victim who becomes the aggressor, and is angry, childish, and bitter, but can be reasonable. The ML did a great job as usual. I loved their push-and-pull dynamic, and the drama features some great role reversal moments. This drama really is a tale of a crazy, ambitious wannabe ruler, but the ruler just happens to be a woman instead of a man.
The only thing that could’ve been done better is the end: it was rushed, and the ML didn’t spend enough time apologizing for something big that caused the FL a lot of anguish throughout her life.
