Diehard romance fan? honestly a great developped slowburn romance would have been great. There is only a sprinkle of romance here. But that's ok for me.

Do you think the suspense is off. I was rooting fotr the leads so much in battles. The suspense works for me.

Yes not a lot of romance.
I don't think the problem is the FL's character. This is a role reversal : FL is cold (tsundere) and ML is warm. It is always the contrary for most dramas : Cold ML and warm/quinky FL.

To me the writer should have helped FL with a Master/ Mentor to help her understand the situation and be proactive instead of reactive.
I know that, all that is the Chairman's scheme. But now that he is dead. Her support system is an idiotic lawyer who thinks he is clever.

If they had made the chairman younger and a love interest. It would have been very tropey to me. SML who loves FL but cannot be with her.

Yes "Chingu" is a great character, I don't like her but she is interesting and weird.

I remember people were complaining about romance getting in the way of the thriller. They might have left already. True that it is hard to imagine what everybody wants out of this show. I was trying to understand.

About the idiotic writing, indeed FL does idiotic moves.
This script isn't the best but it is entertaining to me.

I wish FL could strategize more. But she is an uneducated woman who grew up alone and spent years in jail. So she has to rely on the lawyer, who is full of himself and an idiot.
Her situation is not easy.
How could she be strategizing by herself using corporate laws and underhanded schemes given her background.

What can she do? She has to trust an idiot who thinks he is clever. :(

Not at all. I think those who downvote it didn't see their is romance.
They wanted pure thriller. They should have looked at the tag before choosing to watch, to avoid disapointment.

I don't agree about keeping either the mom or the "chingu" close. Even if Yeong Ran has cameras everywhere. She could never protect herself that way.

Why is the rating dropping ? This is a mix thriller - romance as for the tags.
It is well done in my opinion.
It was never a pure thriller.
So down voting the drama for the romance is not fair.

That mother is despicable. Ga Seon Yeon will flip on her.
If she believes she is safe. This is whisful thinking.

I understand where you are coming from because this is a big cliché.
I wouldn't say she is a weak woman. She made mistakes.

First : why did she stick this gun to this killers head. I knew that guy would take it from her.
Why not keeping her distances and shoot him in that so-called limpping leg?

Second : Her lawyer is the worst and dumbest man ever. But is ego his taller than the Empire state.
Why leaving his phone and let "chingu" know where Female Lead is?
Why letting hitmen follow him to Muchang?
Why dragging his sister into that story? Now he gave leverage on him.

To me Female Lead is strong. She defeated he hitmen during the rumble. And Male Lead helped her. I don't see her weak being saved by a man. In my opinion she was dumb to get so close to a mercenary with a gun.
She was over confident. This was a lethal move that put her in a dire situation.

As for the mother, I also think she will end up dead or disabled.
Because I don't believe colluding with Ga Seon Yeon doesn't bring harm.

Of course Yeon Ran will forgive her mother, that's who she is, but I think she will cut ties.
I honestly prefer her to let go of that grudge in order to live a carefree life and be happy with Dong Min. It's better to leave that trashy so-called mother in the perillous situations she brought to herself.
Cutting ties should be the best.

Yes to me it is happy / open ending. Because they were at the palace gate.
However, I agree with you, we should feel happy for the heroes.
I don't think someone will pop up from somewhere and force them into the palace again LOL

I think the writer wrote her character this way :
If she was a former Empress, she indeed knew all the Palace's servants and not only the harem's. So she could definitly have her ways around the palace.
She managed to detect Ling Yun when she was only a made and spied on her even in the Bureau of servitude, when she was still a slave.
Every consort respected her/ feared her although she was not favoured by the Emperor.
She even manage to put her hands on Consort Wang's indenture.

To me those elements show that she had a deep network inside and outside of the all Palace.

Of course, Being infatuated with Chief Wu, she could have noticed Lin Yun early on by spying on him. But from what I understood, Consort Jing had enough Henchmen to spy at the same time on Consort Wang and her sister, Wu Ling Fu, Ling Yun, the 14th Bureau, Consort Mu and of course the Emperor.
To me it seems like a lot of influence.

I understand for ML.
But the Emperor demoted Consort Jing from her status of Empress in the last episode.
This is why I said that she was one.

Of course Consort Wang was very powerful. But I think Consort Jing was very powerful too because she had a deep hidden network.

Wrap up : one of the best kdrama for me to date.

Story well written, good acting, suspense growing from episode to episode, clues given piece by piece. And great romance with deep meaning.
The heroes have to deal with stardom and fame... So they cannot just act like everybody would think they should.

Me neither. I would welcome a second season. But like you I doubt it (-_-)

It is my first harem centered drama too.
But we all know more or less consorts intrigues in every drama. So we can understand their underhanded schemes.
I will not spoil you but your intuition is good. ML and FL have an history.
Keep watching. The first 75 % of the drama is full of schemes. It is not boring at all.

I was on Ep 30 but I just watch ep 31. They got me on this one. The show is so good.
