Average Plot with Awesome Acting.

I watched this drama and for the adaptation nothing could beat this version. The age gap looks so real but somehow it fits the drama. The chemistry between the Feng Ming Chao and Meng Na is excellent. Their kisses are emotional, logical, and psychologically engaging.

For simple plot, FL was being orphan and raised by the ML. They appear to be siblings, but are not actually related by blood. FL has secretly loved the ML since childhood, and he has always doted on her, seemingly waiting for her to grow up. So overall, it's very sweet, with no angst.

Meng Na was truly beautiful; even that hime-cut looked good on her. She could be both cool and sweet, very sassy when dealing with scumbags, and very sweet when facing ML. I liked her when she hugged ML it was very naturally cute.

Feng Ming Chao was too thin but he seems well-suited for this type of aloof, domineering older man. His acting skills, having experience in long drama are unlikely to be bad. And his real-life as a father also lends him an edge in portraying older characters.

Supporting characters are just so-so. The various villainous female supporting characters and extras in the short drama are nothing special, but there aren't any particularly bad either.

This is obviously on-budget drama but the acting was decent to watch.

UNEXPECTED

This series is an harmonic paradox. Taken separately, actors, music, directing, screenwriting are athetesis and yet together seems meant to be. Also, the hilarious fragments carefully planted are priceless. Can't stop watching. The intimate scenes are sensual and not cringy even though highly censored. Love it. Thumbs up to the opening song.

Enjoyable break up missions & moral of story, but Disappointing main romance

“Break Up Service” might not be on many people’s radar since Off wasn’t paired with Gun or in a BL. However, I actually quite like Off, and his character in this drama. After the excellent “Not Me”, I failed to find another drama of his that I truly enjoy.

“Break Up Service” has a very simple premise. A service you could hire to break up any couple for any reason. Off plays the main character, Boss, as the ace of the company. He’s smart, resourceful, an expert in cross-dressing (LOL) and somewhat of a heartless bad guy. He completes his mission alone effectively. Female lead, Jued, joins the company as a rookie needing to learn the ropes and harden her heart to be Boss’ partner. I enjoy watching their partnership develop. There’s an enemies-to-partners-to-friends-to-lovers dynamic. Their different personalities create a lot of comedy, drama and challenges when completing their missions. Compared to other Thai dramas, the over-the-top acting and second-hand embarrassment are tolerable and somewhat amusing.

The break up cases are simple yet entertaining. They are mostly everyday couples but all the characters are likable. There are a couple pleasant surprises. Each mission brings forth an important factor/element to a successful romantic relationship. Whether it’s being honest with your partner, being yourself, not to be taken advantage of, not being looked down on, enduring the difficult times together, or when love is not enough to win against reality…. I like the moral of each story. The episodic format is sometimes a hit-or-miss to me, but in “Break Up Service”, all these missions and different guest stars are my favorite part.

Unfortunately, the main romance between Boss and Jued is a disappointment. Despite liking them as partners, I don’t feel much romantic chemistry between the two. The execution of them slowly developing feelings and realizing them is not done well. As I mentioned, I like Off’s character but I can’t say his acting, especially in the romance department, meets my expectations. The brief love triangle both develops and goes “poof” just like that. The drama doesn’t give the main leads time to be in a relationship before moving to another plot to end the drama.

I did have a pretty good time watching “Break Up Service”. The guest stars and all the different couples and cases are the best part of the drama. Don’t go in expecting a well-executed romantic comedy from the main leads. But for romance lovers, the cases might just be enough to satisfy your cravings.

A drama from kpop fans to kpop fans

This drama was clearly written by a K-pop fan, for K-pop fans.

It fed every delusional dream I’ve ever had as a longtime fan. I think we’ve all imagined how amazing it would be if our idol noticed us—let alone came to our house and fell in love with us. Honestly, who hasn’t?

Most of us older fans now have jobs or have built families of our own, which made Sena’s scenes especially relatable. Her rushing home just to watch Raik’s video and replaying all her favorite moments of him—that hit close to home. I still do that myself. I’m a chemistry teacher with a 12-year-old son, and yet here I am.

The drama was comforting and soothing. The culprit was caught, the leads ended up together, the bad people changed for the better, and everything wrapped up the way we always wish real life would.

In the end, it was an enjoyable emotional ride. I know I’ll come back to rewatch it whenever I’m craving that feeling again.

A Bold, "Anti-Trope" Spin on a Classic Legend

If you feel like you’ve seen every possible Gumiho story, No Tail to Tell is here to challenge that. It’s a polarizing watch, but for those who "get" the vibe, it’s a refreshing departure from the standard supernatural romance.

How it Differs from the Classics:
• vs. Tale of the Nine-Tailed: While Lee Dong-wook gave us a brooding, heroic mountain spirit, Kim Hye-yoon’s Eun-ho is an MZ-style Gumiho who actively avoids becoming human. She’s not looking for a lost love; she’s looking for luxury and immortality.
• vs. My Roommate is a Gumiho: Unlike the soft, academic charm of Shin Woo-yeo, this show leans into chaotic energy. The leads aren't "cute" in the traditional sense—they are narcissistic, loud, and petty.
• vs. My Girlfriend is a Gumiho: It trades the innocent "meat-loving" charm of Shin Min-ah for a cynical, street-smart protagonist who knows exactly how the world works.

The "Annoying" Factor (Acting & Chemistry)
The chemistry between Kim Hye-yoon and Lomon is definitely an acquired taste. They play their roles as "annoyingly good"—intentional friction that can feel over-the-top but perfectly captures the clash between a cynical fox and a narcissistic star athlete. It’s a "frenemies" dynamic taken to the extreme.

The Verdict
The drama has faced some criticism for its loud acting and CGI, but it’s clearly a choice to be a stylized, campy rom-com rather than a serious fantasy epic. It’s a story about two people with huge egos learning to see beyond themselves—a journey that feels very human (and even spiritually grounded) in its look at pride and humility.
Bottom Line: If you want a Gumiho who isn't a victim or a hero, but a chaotic force of nature, give this a chance. It’s different, it’s loud, and it’s a lot of fun.

Great Storyline and Acting

I actually saw this on youtube where it was stitched into a 4h+ that looked so much like the usual cheap vertical drama. I never thought it was a legit high budget production until i saw the comments. Honestly the show was really impressive in terms of acting and cinematography. The storyline is rather typical, a modern FL was thrown into ancient setting, finding herself reborn into the body of a concubine of a tyrant emperor. And since she was an archeologist, she perfectly knew what was waiting in the concubine’s future, as she was the honey trap character that people despise for corrupting the emperor.

It was actually fun to see the FL try to navigate her way around the political scene of the court, as she turn the concubine into a benovalent character as she tried to stay alive long enough for her to find way back to her time.

I assumed the youtube version was a cut down from this 24episodes but it was enough to understand the whole plot and it was a worthwhile ride.

Cheesy But Cute

I was browsing around for new dramas to watch when I saw the title Cinderella at 2 AM. I admit, I’m a sucker for Cinderella stories. I was intrigued. I didn’t know the actress, but the ML was familiar. I realized it was Moon Sang Min. I first saw him as the grand prince in the drama Under the Queen’s Umbrella. I was also watching him in To My Beloved Thief that’s currently airing. I have to wait a long time. Bummer. Anyway, I went in without huge expectations, and OMG so glad I gave it a chance because I enjoyed it so much. Loved all the characters here. They were hilarious. No dull moments, I swear. The ML was so persistent. He reminded me of a cute little puppy following her around. I also love the ML’s brother. He was so funny. I’m glad he got his happy ending, too. His trope was an arranged marriage but they fell in love in the end. The main couple was an office romance. I admit I love office romances. When the ML, Ju Won, moved his office next to Ha Yun Seo’s, I was squealing in delight, especially when he was acting cold and avoiding her, OMG my poor little heart. She was a little frustrating sometimes, but I get it. I was the same with my husband who came from a prominent family. It’s not easy, so it must have been hard for her to say yes to him. Anyway, the music used here was so good. I looked up the FL’s age, and wow that’s such a huge age gap. But she looks young to me, and the ML’s tall, so it’s all good. The kisses were so sweet!! No dead fish kisses!! Yayy!! I love how they had a small wedding, and all the characters (except for her horrible parents and Ju Won’s dad who cheated) were present. I love how the second male lead wasn’t so bad. He was just a little weird in the beginning, but he helped the main couple get closer. That wrapped up pretty good. I thought 10 episodes was great. No unnecessary fillers. It was perfect, in my opinion. The show might be a little cheesy, but everyone did a great job in this drama. It was fun and lighthearted, and it really made me smile.

it was ok...

i gave it more stars considering the time of release. There are some glaring issues when compared to the kdrama of today. Still i finished it and with current standards id give it a 7/10. So i added more points to base it off of when released. It's GOOD. It's just old and not timeless like a rush hour, or terminator, or bruce-lee film. it pushed some bounds for 2010 but not enough. also it felt like i was listening to the same song constantly, over and over. If you've watched all your watchlist of kdrama give it a go (you may need to skip some slower moments, but careful cause there are some actual funny moments that hold up today). But if you have other shows to watch, regardless of genre; put it on the backburner.

Breaking free from a father-daughter entanglement disguised in the game of Shogi

This is neither a conventional revenge story nor a thriller, so please manage your expectations accordingly. I'd call this a small, effective lesson in family therapy.

At it's core, this is an emotional and psychological drama depicting a girl yearning for her father's love; the father who abandoned her and her mother for Shogi. What she terms as revenge is in fact, her entanglement, and her way of interacting with her father through the game of Shogi. It's a character-driven story that doesn't waste its time on endless flashbacks or digging deeper and deeper into the trauma or the characters' decisions, rather it goes straight for the emotional punch and let's the viewer sit with the characters' plight and decisions, and lets them form their own learnings and hypothesis. Needless to say, I loved this.

Now on to the "revenge" and how this is a short lesson in some concepts from family therapy.

The first is the concept of 'differentiation of self'. Are we able to make rational decisions about ourselves (from a family perspective)? This is in contrast to people who make emotional decisions. If we are able to act rationally, then we have a high DOS, which means we have some level of detachment from the family and can make our decisions ourselves. We are an individual in our own right. Not a child, not a sibling, not a spouse.

Asuka's decision to play shogi and defeat her father came from (1) an emotional decision (2) because she was still entangled with her father (3) so that she would be able to interact with him (4) and one-up him.
Her act came from a place where she strongly identified with her father and his neglect - that became a huge part of her identity.
When she was finally able to play it with him in the finale - they were interacting and engaging with each other through the game of shogi. They were upholding that one promise that he made to her when she was a young girl. When she was able to defeat him, she was able to hold on to her dignity, but on a bigger perspective, she was able to finally bid goodbye to that abandoned girl trapped in that little house waiting to play shogi with her father. She was able to finally differentiate herself from him, and thus, we see her withdraw from shogi, we see her smiling in the last frame calling shogi 'fun'. She's now able to rationally enjoy the game, without a motive to defeat the father or without a motive to win. Shogi was an interest she picked up from her father, but it was never her passion / ambition to begin with, and her character finally breaks free and can appreciate that.

The second concept is that of emotional entanglement which I have explained to some degree above. Through the game of shogi, she was finally able to break that chain of entanglement, and create a boundary with her father. She can now make her decision to do what she wants, she can even greet him from a distance without feeling overtly attached or emotional.

If you are able to appreciate this family perspective of the drama, you'll be able to see why this was an effective, beautiful gem in the writing department.

The gloomy / darker colours created a competitive vibe, a darkness and I love how the last frame was such a contrast- a bright one, with sakura ( i think) blooming in the background. She has healed.

The acting was on point and effective; neither too dramatic, neither too subtle.

Direction was stellar, keeping every frame and scene effective, without adding fillers, or unnecessary information or detail. Just what a compact drama needs.

The score was minimal. It didn't stand out.

All in all, a gem, which unfortunately many people did not understand.

Remarkable acting

I would recommend this if you like summer romance stories, Emily Henry romance books, and non-toxic love triangles. This definitely is a peaceful and calm comfort romance.

What I liked: the female lead was admirable, but at the same time relatable; the relationship between the brothers was very touching; realistic storyline with no unrealistic drama; representation of dedication and passion for cooking.

What I disliked: the tempo of the story was a bit uneven, and lots of development happened in the last two episodes; sometimes I was irritated by the low EQ of every character in the show.

The best part of this story wasn't romance but rather the satisfaction when all complicated feelings between all the characters are sorted out. I think the acting was very good in this show, especially for a short J-drama.

A blueprint of romantic K-dramas

This is one of those dramas that will forever feel nostalgic. Without this drama, I think the K-drama industry wouldn't be as it is currently, with heart-fluttering moments, dramatic twists and extra comical characters. Putting this legacy reputation aside, I think this drama is definitely interesting plot-wise. It keeps you on your toes more than multiple others. But at the same time, if it isn't your first time watching a drama like this and you know all the cheesy tropes, then it can get repetitive and tiring really fast. ML and FL have a toxic push-and-pull relationship. It started to bother me more towards the end because I had hoped they would grow out of it eventually, but they didn't. Both leads are also extremely childish throughout the whole series. The cast was chosen very wisely, I think no one lacked in that regard.

I disliked the ML character

OK I was saving this drama in my shelf since i didn't have mood to watch Miqi at that time and I watched this last week.

The actual drama was below average to my liking and yeah the voice was being dubbed has not making this drama better. Wang Haozhen still delivers his acting but Miqi is quite weak on terms of acting too bad i quite like her looks. Considering Miqi she never do real kiss (there is only one but yeah she always do tricks on kissing scene).

The blood-drawing trope is so uncool! Treating it as a way to repay a debt of gratitude is even more uncool. I forced myself since i am quite lenient person. Fortunately FL was smart by using pig blood. ML was quite bad person and didn't deserve FL at all.

Only recommended to hardcore fans.

I would recommend if you like heart-fluttering slow-burn rom-coms, klutzy female leads and cold male leads. Being a fan of the sunshine/grumpy trope, I can say with 95% certainty that this is the best textbook example of the trope.

What I liked: the chemistry between the two leads; character development of the male lead; the comedic acting of supporting characters; actors making unrealistic characters (something which had bothered me in the manga and anime) more human.

What I disliked: the female lead being an extremely unrealistic pushover sometimes, instead of being it a normal amount.

This is definitely at the top of my guilty pleasure rewatch list. I have read the manga and seen the anime as well, and this drama outdid them while still sticking very closely to the original storyline.
