Speaking Seven Languages, Missing One: The Language of emmotions
The series shows that the difficulty of “translating” love is not only about words, but above all about emotions, fears, and inner wounds. The heroine, lacking self-confidence, is convinced that no one can truly love her or stay with her. She lives in fear of the future and, whenever she tries to move forward, she feels guilty — either because she believes she might unjustly hurt someone, or because she fears disappointing the other person. She does not recognize her own worth, even though she remains positive, warm, sincere, and deeply human.Can This Love Be Translated? primarily deals with emotional misunderstanding rather than language barriers. The male lead is an extremely rational and highly intellectual man who speaks several languages, yet is incapable of understanding emotions — both his own and those of the woman he loves. He feels something for her but does not know how to identify or interpret it.
Through the character of Dorami, the male lead finally begins to understand the heroine’s emotional state: her fears, her desires, her inner chaos. Dorami does not only help her, but also indirectly acts as an emotional bridge for the hero. Here, “healing the mind” does not mean correcting or imposing external order, but understanding, observing, and accompanying. Understanding inner chaos allows a path toward harmony.
The Japanese character is also very important: despite the language barrier, emotional understanding between him and the heroine is much clearer. Their relationship has a rom-com tone with genuine chemistry, while the main storyline, more grounded in reality, is more melodramatic and psychological. It almost feels like two parallel series, reinforcing the central message.
The series stands out for its careful writing and lack of clichés. All characters are well developed, both in the script and in their performances. This is not a light romance, but a deep psychological dramedy, pleasant to watch and inviting reflection on the importance of making the effort to emotionally understand the person one loves.
It is also important to highlight the quality of the writing: the series is written by the same screenwriters as Alchemy of Souls and Hotel de Luna. Their signature is clearly felt, particularly through certain atmospheres, the attention to emotions, and an almost melancholic sensitivity that recalls the universe of Hotel de Luna for attentive viewers.
The directing adopts a very benevolent approach, especially in the way foreign cultures are portrayed. They are shown in a positive, human, and respectful manner, through nuanced characters as well as beautiful locations that contribute to the emotional and cultural openness of the series.
As for the music, the result is more mixed. The Korean tracks lack a truly memorable theme. Opera, although present and important within the universe of the series, is often portrayed as something not very accessible to an uninitiated audience and is sometimes pushed into the background in favor of K-pop — which is somewhat disappointing given the emotional richness opera could have brought.
Kim Seon-ho is remarkable in his restrained and sensitive role, bringing real emotional nuance to his character. Go Youn-jung is also impressive, portraying her character as fragile, funny, and deeply human — far from being just a “famous actress.” Fukushi Sota is excellent in his role as a romantic lover and vulnerable. A beautiful translation of each other's love.
A heartfelt mature romance of two individuals showcasing vulnerabilities& miscommunication and the sheer efforts to understand each other's language of love. Its layered & nuanced. Its a love that explores connection and demands trust, patience,empathy. Its not loud but caring and provides healing& comfort to the broken soul.Sitting with this drama for a while, i have come to really appreciate the storytelling. It's very layered. Our main leads aren't the simple, cheerful , but complex charac with their own issues. I love how, throughout the drama, we explore their issues along w them. Since the very start, both laid out their true selves to each other, which they normally would hide from the world.
Its all important because this is eventually leading to them fully understanding each other amidst all the miscommunication between them. Because the central theme of this drama is understanding one another's love for each other.
Coming to hojin, he is a pretty emotionally restrained charac who translates people's words for a living. Hence, he is used to the direct ways of communication. language derived of emotions is where he loses his footing. He is someone very reserved and direct. Hence, his words can sometimes cut through like a knife, but he is also someone who is thoughtful in his own silent ways who eventually come around. And that's why muhee shakes his world. He has never been the one to initiate. We see his regrets over his first failed love. But muhee is the driving force that awakes his curiosity to understand the twisted language of love. Hence, you will see his gravity of loving someone isn't loud but quiet and profound. He observes, understands, and learns to reach out. Muhee is a tricky person to him. He sees himself drawn to her, and that's why he starts questioning everything. After understanding her trsuma more, he truly dives deep to help her out. Hence, kim seonho's performance might seem not so trivial, but in the end, it's exactly the opposite of it. He truly bought the simplicity yet the complexity of hojin's personality to life.
Coming to our muhee, truly broken and vulnerable charac. Her alter ego dorami being her protector of sort. Who is unapologetic and manipulative , helps her from getting hurt, and face more trauma. We are introduced to her since the very beginning, but her actual gravity comes in phases. She isn't a hateful version of muhee but a much more broken version of hers. Muhee is someone who is cheery and outgoing and wants to experience the world. But dorami holds her down. Not cos she is evil, but she is a shield for her to not face any more rejections from life. It's not easy to break away from that, considering everything she has been through in her life. It's sad and utterly heartbreaking. And that's where younjung does such a great job at potraying the stark difference in the characs. And that's why muhee doesn't want the world to know of it. She thinks she doesn't deserve the love and light of the world. She thinks she doesn't deserve the festival dedicated to her. But hojin being there to see both of her versions,thats why their love story brings a lot of mature points where we see them healing one another from their past and trauma.
Dorami, as mentioned above, is very bold in her actions, but the kindness and understanding that she never experienced from anyone, but now she does from hojin, confuses her. Hence, she becomes even more wary of him. But also can't help buy reach out to him as a last resort of her to save herself.
That's why episode 9s ending is so utterly heartbreaking but beautiful. It's her finally asking, letting herself breathe and tell hojin how she longs to be loved and that this facade of dorami is slowly weakening as she no longer wants to be this broken. She is pleading almost in a desperate attempt to disappear so that muhee can live her life and enjoy the festival.
Their love holds a lot of meaning considering we are so used to confessions being all promise of eternity but even though i have nothing against it but reality is far too twisted sometimes and someone dealing w trauma and healing through doesnt need things to be sugarcoated , especially in this case where muhee is still learning to let go of her trauma and trying to love herself. When all her life she believed she didn't deserve any bit and would run away. Hojin is trying his best to tell her that let's just love for today and not think bout tomorrow, and some might think this doesn't give a promising start to the future, but that's exactly the point. Future is too overwhelming, but assuring bout the present is sometimes one needs.
Overall, my one small complaint is that the personality disorder theme needed more medical attention. It needed a few more eps for finding a closure. I dont hate the outcome, but i genuinely felt 2 more eps could have been made to wrap up the journey.
But I'm m all in the feels and have come to appreciate this drama a lot. And a huge shoutout to the spectacular cinematography that made all the difference and elevated the drama to a whole another level. I truly wish kdramas would take this scenic route more, lol. Felt like living in a dream. 💜🍀

Everything was so smooth by Netflix!
Some of the beginning episodes were simply cute—the kind of cute that feels effortless rather than forced. The chemistry between GYJ and KSH was immediately apparent, flowing naturally through small gestures, glances, and playful dialogue. Their interactions felt warm and genuine, making it easy to root for them from the start. At first glance, the drama seemed to lean comfortably into the familiar territory of a lighthearted rom-com, offering comfort, humor, and charm that made each episode easy to watch.The OSTs elevated that experience even further. The soundtrack was thoughtfully curated, with each song enhancing the emotional tone of the scenes rather than overpowering them. Wonstein’s track, in particular, stood out—it carried a soft melancholy beneath its soothing rhythm, perfectly mirroring the drama’s quieter, more reflective moments. The music didn’t just accompany the story; it became part of it, lingering in your mind long after the episode ended.
As the story progressed, however, it became clear that this drama was much more than a funny or fluffy romantic comedy. Beneath the humor lay themes of loss, healing, personal growth, and the quiet struggles people carry with them. The emotional beats were handled with surprising sensitivity. Instead of relying on exaggerated conflict, the drama trusted its characters and their inner journeys. That restraint made the emotional moments hit harder—sometimes unexpectedly so. There were scenes that crept up gently and still managed to make me tear up, not because they were overly tragic, but because they felt real.
One of the strongest aspects of the drama was its storytelling and internal logic. Character decisions made sense within their emotional contexts, and the narrative unfolded at a steady, confident pace. Nothing felt unnecessarily dragged out or conveniently rushed. Each subplot had a purpose, contributing to the overall message rather than distracting from it.
The ending was especially satisfying. It didn’t aim for shock value or grand spectacle, but instead offered a sense of closure that felt earned. Every major character was given a meaningful resolution, reinforcing the idea that healing doesn’t always mean perfection—just understanding and acceptance. By the final episode, the drama left behind a quiet warmth, the kind that stays with you, reminding you why this story was worth following to the very end.

Loved the concept and hearing the different languages
I enjoyed this drama. Watched it without reading about it or watching a trailer because I like Seon Ho and Go Youn Jung work.I really like that this was a mature, grown up setting and all characters did not act childish nor silly.
It was fun watching Cha Mu Hui and Hiro interaction - very funny and how they were have a conversation and not understanding what each other was saying.
I think their shoots should have been more, to me it was lacking and when they showed the rough editing, it still didnt have any "substance" but that's just my take on that. I only wished they wrote her to get more roles.
But either way, it was fun and loved that they incorporated different languages.

Under the Aurora
Can This Love Be Translated shines brightest in its first six episodes.Those episodes are beautifully restrained—rich cinematography, quiet tension, and two people holding back while secretly wishing the other would stay. Episode 6 is the emotional peak. With his unresolved crush suddenly back in his life, the ML drifts, confused and unsure. The FL, already in love, steps back and roots for his happiness, even when it hurts.
Yet after the “accident”, at dawn, it is the FL he reaches out to.
The aurora scene says everything without words. Her relief that he is safe, his choice to share that moment with her, and their desire to stretch time just a little longer—this is where the drama feels most honest and alive.
The second half loses that clarity and emotional precision. But the feeling left by those early episodes lingers—rare, aching, and unforgettable—reminiscent of Crash Landing on You or Twenty-Five Twenty-One.
For that one night under the aurora alone, this drama is worth remembering.

Can my love for this kdrama be translated?
We had a movie and a short reality show inside a serie, well mixed genres, two couples, three countries, incredible plot twists...and it all kept being well connected. Could not ask for more.As somebody who enjoys mainly rom-com and had high expectations for this particular kdrama, it ended up being the best serie i have ever seen (Mind you, I've watched over a hundred).
The way that it smoothly moved between all of the things I've mentioned starting this review, while still keeping the sense of the storyline and esence of it all, is just something amazing.
Music selection was not only accurate but also included as part of the scenes. The story was fun, unique and also deep, with incredible plot twists keeping you on your toes. The romance was sweet but real as well. The characters and their interactions were so well written it must be a genius work. So many quotes from the script deserve to be highlighted. Scenary was beautiful, while the visual style and cinematography as a whole was simply fabulous.
Whoever wants to watch a masterpiece of something beautiful and romantic, but with some other interesting surprises in the middle, you will never regret watching this. Absolute cinema

It’s been a long time since I let myself fall so deeply into a drama, finishing all the episodes in one breath. Kim Seon-ho and Go Youn-jung were simply mesmerizing. Their chemistry, their presence, their expressions — everything felt iconic and unforgettable. The two-year wait was not wasted.
The OST blended seamlessly into every scene, amplifying every emotion. The cinematography was beautiful, the dialogue meaningful, and the characters alive. This drama didn’t just entertain me — it stayed with me. Without hesitation, this stands as my top K-drama of the year so far.

Not your usual romcom
Watching all other romcoms had always been a hard task for me. Especially with the generic type of plot everyone hyped, it’s just not interesting enough for me and that I would soon drop it. However this certain drama caught my attention during the first episode where it showed us the magnificent view and also a spoil of the near ending episode scene, it was able to make me continue watching further on wondering the plot. And as I continued, it did not disappoint at all, with the short comedies and also cute scenes together, it wasn’t all dramatical about love but also still plot driven, IT’S LIKE EDGING YOU. Something soft romance and also still plot driven so it makes sense. The actors and actresses roles suits them so very much it’s pleasing to the eye and also my mind. A genuine surprise never expected this
Was waiting for this drama for a long time for kim seon ho after hometown cha cha cha but the real surprising element was the actress and how she pull it off. At some point the drama was slow and feels to be dropped but the story had a few elements that made it feel engaging and the only thing that stands above all was how well the actress had showed the emotions for her both the roles. I am truly not that much happy with the character written for the ML as it feels like he is not commiting enough but still flow of the drama was good due to this. Best K-Drama to Start in 2026
This was a good and interesting watch. It’s the first romance K-drama I watched in 2026, and it didn’t disappoint. Things took a strange turn halfway through, but overall, the story remained interesting. Both Kim Seon-ho and Go Youn-jung handled their roles well and had good chemistry. The supporting characters were also enjoyable to watch.The drama shows how love itself can feel hard to interpret, sometimes even harder than a foreign language. While the romance is a slow burn, it feels natural and earned.
It’s especially enjoyable because the story takes you to multiple destinations. I’d recommend this as a great first drama to start your year with. Definitely a solid one.

Didn't go the way I expected it to but I loved it!
I can understand why some people found this to be a let down. The plot being promoted before its release was really just a small fraction of what the whole story is about and even I was caught off guard! But I actually ended up really liking where the story was headed, especially at the ep 7-8 mark. This drama started out very romcom-y, very cute, had me giggling and kicking my feet and then the concept of Do Ra Mi being a recurring character kind of had me raising my eyebrows in confusion and apprehension cause where the hell did that storyline even come from?? It actually turned out to be one of the things that made me love this drama even more. I know there are mixed reactions with how they chose to portray mental health but me personally I found it to be very unique and interesting. Obviously the whole premise of Do Ra Mi just suddenly taking over the FL and the ML just accepting it is kind of preposterous but hey thats the beauty of fiction! It was so fun seeing how Go Youn Jung was able to embody two different characters and just seemly shift demeanors and mannerisms and ugh it was just so entertaining to watch.I've also seen people complaining that they took too long to actually get together but come on guys, its literally called Can This Love Be Translated? Of course there's going to be miscommunication and tension and angst! The push and pull between the FL and ML, how they just couldn't help falling for each other despite every speed bump they encountered. Personally I found it endearing how the ML really tried to interpret how the FL was feeling even though it wa probably giving him whiplash, not to mention Do Ra Mi popping up everywhere. But one other thing I really liked about the Do Ra Mi plot was how she was the one who helped the ML really understand the FL because she is basically telling me everything that the FL is thinking but just can't say out loud (confusing I know).
Anyways, from the cinematography to the OST to the storyline to the cast, this was definitely NOT a let down for me. I hyperfixated and binged all the eps cause that's how hooked I was. Don't let the bad reviews stop you. See for yourself and form your own opinion!!

Esse Amor Pode Ser Traduzido? chega quase despretensioso no título, mas entrega bem mais do que um romance convencional. É um drama que surpreende justamente por deslocar o foco do “amor ideal” para algo bem mais complexo, a comunicação, ou a falta dela.Aqui, amar não é o maior desafio. O problema é traduzir intenções, dores, expectativas e silêncios. O drama brinca com a ideia de idioma, mas rapidamente deixa claro que a maior barreira não é linguística, é emocional, cultural e simbólica. Falar a mesma língua não garante entendimento. E isso dói.
O roteiro propõe reflexões maduras sobre relacionamentos contemporâneos. Pessoas que se gostam, mas não se alcançam. Que sentem muito, mas explicam pouco. Que esperam que o outro adivinhe, porque aprenderam que amar é “entender sem precisar dizer”. Spoiler sociológico: não é.
O que surpreende é a sutileza. Não há grandes vilões, nem exageros desnecessários. O conflito nasce do cotidiano, da incapacidade de nomear sentimentos, da pressa, do medo de parecer vulnerável. É um drama sobre adultos emocionalmente cansados, tentando fazer dar certo sem saber exatamente como.
Há também uma crítica clara às relações romantizadas demais. O amor não resolve tudo. Não cura traumas sozinho. Não substitui conversa honesta, escuta ativa e responsabilidade afetiva. E o drama faz questão de mostrar o preço de quando isso é ignorado.
Visualmente delicado, com ritmo contemplativo, a série exige paciência. Não é para maratonar com o celular na mão. É para sentir os incômodos, os desencontros e as perguntas que ficam depois do episódio.
No fim, Esse Amor Pode Ser Traduzido? não entrega respostas prontas. Ele provoca. Faz a gente se perguntar quantas vezes achou que estava sendo claro, quando na verdade estava apenas esperando ser compreendido.
Um drama que fala baixo, mas ecoa alto. E surpreende justamente por isso.
