I won't say that "everyone is entitled to their own opinion" cause that's a given. Some people don't like costume dramas so they may not enjoy this etc.
What I will say is that it's inevitable to compare. All death game series/movies/works have similarities and SG is one of the most popular ones currently and generally ever and that is unquestionable. I am not saying it is the best out there, but everyone knows it because most have watched it or know someone who has.
The Japanese have many death-game works with Battle Royale probably being the one that started it all, but if you ask people that don't know much about cinema or generally don't watch many series/movies etc they won't know about it. The possibility of knowing about the book is even lower.
But let's be real here. It's no coincidence that a series like this was made now and that they invested tons of money to make it. Judging from the final result of this one, they must have invested LOTS of money. The fact that it is a costume dramas makes it extremely expensive anyways.
SG brought tons of money to netflix and it is one of their most watched series of all times, if it isn't number one. They invested in this, because they know that this ''genre'' can help them financially wise especially with the ''samurai'' combination.
Now, about which one is better I don't think they are comparable. Yes, it also brought me back SG memories cause it was the most recent death game show I have watched. Yes it has similarities, cause all death game works have, but to their very core they can't be truly compared. And especially SG and this one can't be compared to AIB that has many fantasy elements.
Yes, they are true.
A set caught fire while they were filming VoS, Yanan got injured too because of a mistake from the crew and the schedule was relentless. Some actors worked 17 hours per day for multiple days. That is terrible of course, but entertainment industry is very brutal anyways, and I am sure it is not the first time sth like this happened.
So I don't think these will create any actual problems. Only problem would be a serious scandal.
If I don't see VoS or HS cause of those problems I am going straight to China.
As long as everything is fine with GJM, it's gonna be okay. Honestly man seems to have some serious backers, cause he's been accused of plagiarism multiple times and nothing has happened to him. Hope everything is fine.
Yes it is scheduled for then, but who knows? That one seems very low profile. They haven't promoted it at all and barely has any reservations. I would expect it to air when there is not much traffic, but at the same time I feel they won't rush to air it at all. It may take a while.
I am actually wondering if there is sth wrong with the rights or one of the main actors. It is good that WeTV aired a HongYi drama cause most of his Youku dramas are technically shelved. Maybe that means we will watch this one too.
I am waiting for both, more for VoS actually, but I would like for this one to air sooner since I've been waiting longer for it.
It was rumoured to air on Q1 pretty long ago and I think the series was in the 2026 lineup on Youku. It is a drama they have high hopes for, so they will probably air it when they air their most anticipated dramas and one of those times is January. That aside, VoS has quite a lot reservations even though there is no trailer.
Plus most Guo's dramas -the ones that are just him- air soon enough, at least the ones from iqiyi, so I hope this airs soon too.
I am waiting for both too, but I just need this one sooner cause I've been waiting longer for itπ
It was filmed ages ago rumoured to air for a long time and nothing. Even though it wouldn't be the first time, I still find it ridiculous that it may air long after VoS.
This was already ridiculous but now it is worse. With VoS rumored to air earlier than this π€£
I want to watch both, but I wish they gave thus one priority since it got filmed much earlier.
I personally see no problem with this and anything "similar" to this, if the source material is written like this. I'd be pissed if it was a true biographical story and they decided to change the race of the main character or the place the story is taking place just because, but that's not the case here.
On the bright side WeTv will be releasing a Hongyi drama. If we are very lucky and that one does well maybe they'll release HS sooner.
I'll be waiting for the final trailer to judge though.
