There would be no drama or story without the angst, what you're describing is a photo shoot lol.
I'm not denying that there is plenty of angst, I'm just saying there are also a lot of healing moments to balance it out. That's actually what I think is great about this drama, they get the balance of angst, heartwarming moments and comedy right so that you're never too overwhelmed. Some dramas don't get this right and either become too depressing or not deep/sincere enough.
Regarding his retirement... Honestly, he's been offered so many roles in low quality dramas with young FLs lacking in acting talent, I'm not surprised. He's a talented actor. I remember in Legend of Dugu he was fantastic and I think it's really unfair that he hasn't been given projects that give him a chance to shine.
No... First off, there are 3 MLs, not one...😅 and although Cangxuan and Xiaoyao spent a lot of time together as children and call each other brother/sister, they are technically not blood relatives. (Then they are separated for hundreds of years and meet again as adults.) This isn't your typical drama... Leave your C drama cliche expectations at the door.

Agreed. She was so limp. She was a bit better in the beginning, but then she just became so meek and underwhelming. He really carried the show. Imagine how much better it could have been with a more talented actress playing Mongwoo!

What a powerful, charismatic performance by Jo Jung Suk! Wow! Once his character becomes king, the character is so well rounded, from intense outbursts that make the courtiers shake in their boots to poker faced cunning, passionately virtuous and all topped off with a tenderness and the vulnerability. Very well played sir.
The FL however played by Shin Sae Kyeong was a pathetic performance that gets even weaker in the second half. She does the same facial expression with mild variations throughout the entire drama. Her performance is entirely lacking in every way and demonstrates no growth. Meek, weak and limp. While supposedly seeking revenge, she is so devoid of emotion, it's hard to imagine she cares about anything. If only a different FL had been cast like Park Eun Bin or Shin Hye Sun, this drama could have been even more stunning. Fortunately, the ML and a fantastic support cast carry the FL through the rest of the drama and she becomes more of a support role than a main one.
Overall a very good drama worth a watch if you enjoy court politics and intrigue. It's a shame they didn't make the romance a bigger part of the plot and with a stronger FL!
there are 2 brothers one brother is FL’s best friend, and he is gaythe other brother is the MLthey probably…
I mean he is literally the ML's older brother and the FL is the same age. That is the mention of the age gap... I'm confused why that would be an issue? Do you only watch dramas where the leads are born the same year?
