What an underrated drama! It's delightful. Understated, sweet, funny, wise, realistic. Slice of life. It was a bit predictable to start and then got deeper and wiser. I love how much personal growth happened for all the characters during the show.

Who knows? I'm waiting too. I got stuck at episode 11 when iQiyi suddenly made all the episodes only available for VIP users. I suspect iQiyi is trying to get more VIP sign ups...
There is another Zhang Binbin drama on YouTube that has been falsely named as "Song of the Moon", but it is actually a drama from 2019 called "I will never let you go" with Lin Yi Chen. There are only 2 episodes of "Song of the Moon" available for free on the YouTube iQiyi channel, the rest is VIP only.
So IQiyi episodes are all for VIP as it is on YouTube. I have a Viki AND WeTV subscription, but the drama isn't available in my region on either platforms. ARGH. I got to episode 11 and can't get further!
(No illegal site suggestions please, I'm aware of them, but I have paid good money for my VIP memberships and it annoys the hell out of me when my region doesn't get the same releases as others.)
This is the first demonstration I've seen of Chen Yuqi's acting ability. She gave a great performance in this drama. Comedy, emotion, range, subtlety, she gave it her all. Actually, overall, this is a very good drama but a few points bring it down. The first few episodes had some highlights, but failed to get me hooked. What did it for me was the great chemistry that develops between the two leads. Plot wise I think they could have gone to more depth especially when the FL is married in the palace. The ending was non- existent and left me in confusion... "Was that the end? Was that it?" After a great drama and the build up to the end, it just fizzled out. However, I recommend this drama despite the ending. With a bit more polishing and refinement, this drama could have elevated itself from good to great.
How do you define good acting? Just by the amount of kiss scenes one has in a drama and if the kiss scenes are…
Agree with your comments. I am not judging this drama too harshly because I knew from the start it wasn't going to be some cinematic masterpiece. Honestly, I have seen both leads give better performances, but I think most of all they just don't have that great chemistry together. I think she has better chemistry with Riley Wang.
The FL kept saying aunt to the stepmother, but I realized it wasn't actual aunt but stepmom until now when i watched…
I'm a Chinese speaker. I noticed this early on and thought it might lead to some confusion. She calls the concubine "Yi Niang", which doesn't translate to English. It is the address for your father's concubine. In other dramas, you may also hear "Xiao Niang" (e,g. Story of Minglan). Yi Niang in some modern Chinese dialects can also mean "Aunt", but in this historical drama, it is father's concubine. So, either the subbers were unsure of how to translate it because there isn't an English equivalent, or they wrongly translated it as "aunt" like the modern term. Hope that clears things up! :-)
Left off at EP 12 & from what I have heard, it only gets worse?? Should I do myself a favor & drop?
If you didn't enjoy it up till episode 12 then drop it... I'm at 17, but I am enjoying this drama. I do think the FL has better chemistry with the 2ML though.
why do they have to crowbar romance inbto everything? this could have been a cool moster/action drama and then…
Interesting, because I think the romance was the best twist of the drama, I think they could have developed it more. This character who he thought was his mortal enemy was actually quite the reverse.

There isn't a drama like this one, but if you're after comedy, I second the recommendation of Mr. Queen .
I hope we see more dramas like this one that breaks the mould! I love romance but I found this drama so refreshing and wholesome. A strong FL who is an older woman, mother and Queen.
