I think you've misunderstood. I really liked the premise of Dream of Splendor and enjoyed watching it. The first half was pretty good. However, the second half got weak and the last few episodes were especially weak imo. Dream of Splendor is a good drama, it's just not exceptionally good. This drama is in a league above in my opinion.

She is right about LY but she has treated NiaoNiao like crap since she came home, so even if she has good advice, she hasn't earned the respect and devotion from her daughter. Remember, the mother was convinced NiaoNiao was bad like that evil aunt. Thankfully LBY got that edict to praise NiaoNiao for her virtue, that gave the mother some perspective.

And how about how she treats her cousin? Very warmly. Hugs her, teaches her, praises her. I'm glad Niaoniao went away and got that edict so her mother could see that Niaoniao isn't bad like her aunt, which she was so convinced of

If you like really high quality dramas, watch it. In fact, save yourself the torture and wait until it finishes airing. Did you like Story of Minglan? There are some real similarities. If you prefer light hearted, quick moving plots then this may not be your thing. Also, the first couple of episodes are a bit slow, it gets better and better with every episode.

Dream of Splendour is nowhere near as good as this one, but... this one has only just started airing, so let's wait and see...

I would. She hasn't given her a reason to trust her. CSS has been consistently schemed against and harmed by malicious family members after being abandoned by her mother at birth. In fact, CSS doesn't trust her at all, not yet. That's on the mother. She did everything wrong when she came back and made no attempts to get to know her daughter and then just showed her how much she disliked her and how much she liked her cousin. Why should she listen to someone who has treated her so badly?

And if she had built a healthy relationship with her much neglected daughter before this, then CSS would have been receptive to the advice... She is extremely receptive to advice from people who treat her well like her aunt. I think it was good for the mother to see how well behaved she was with her aunt because the aunt is kind to her. The mother should feel guilty because it will make her get off her high horse and change how she treats her daughter! Then and only then will CSS give weight to her words.

He finally decided to up his game and try to win the girl. I think the story about Shunhua inspired him. Just because you're engaged doesn't mean that you'll end up together.

Her mother has done nothing to earn her love and respect. CSS is a very down to earth person, if someone treats her kindly and respectfully, she will offer the same in return and if they treat her cruelly, she will return the favour. I understand why she doesn't respect her mum at this stage. Her mum abandoned her from birth and then she finally comes back and immediately starts treating her badly rather than giving her the love and care she didn't give her all those years. The mum uses the cousin to shame Niao Niao, giving her the affection she doesn't give to NN. She doesn't even know or particularly like her daughter, all she can see is bad behaviour, not her exceptional righteousness and talents. NN is right to give her the cold shoulder until the mum can figure some shit out and earn NN's love and devotion. Filial piety doesn't come out of nowhere, it first must be given by the parent to be received in return from the child.

I think this is a drama you have to be patient with, no instant gratification here... It's 56 episodes. It's a long journey, take your time to smell the roses and enjoy watching the characters grow. I love it, reminds me so much of Story of Minglan.
