I agree with every word! You said it so well, for the reasons of the characters being BORING as hell, No chemistry and bad writing where ML made his whole personality about FL - I unfortunately had to give this drama only a 2/10 and drop at after ep4. Despite liking both lead actors.
I actually like imperfect characters, but I didn't like them here, because they were also boring. All the supporting cast were more interesting than the leads.
This was too similar, with the added downside of being longer. At least WCAL was Short. And the leads had actually Chemistry there, very good chemistry.
It should be lower. I gave it a 2/10 and dropped it now after finishing ep4.
In a Romance drama it's VITAL that you actually ship the leads together.
But 2ML is everything ML is not: Fun, Compelling, Cool.
Instead I only cared about FLs career, which has now been built up nicely following her becoming one of the owners of the design company. The End. Happy ending for me, No need to continue watching.
This ML is too much a Doormat, No backbone, and mostly just NOT an interesting personality. It's a good thing he lost the weight and become handsome, because his personality is snooze, so there was no great personality to compensate for his lack of looks....But even with his loook he's still snooze..
FL wasn't particuarly likable either.
It's not realistic either how they STILL just like each other after YEARS with NO buildup when they meet again.
THE OTHER DRAMAS with this Back to Hometown & Reunite with childhood love (Will Love In Sping, Welcome to Samdarli, Love Next Door) HAD BUILDUP 1ST: Meet again, don't instantly crush, built up a New adult connection....

Also this FL seems highly likable! I haven't watched her in anything, except apparantly in Extraordinary Attorney Woo (Forgot. Went to look at clips of her there). I like her vibes! She's like a nice mix between the chinese actress Zhou YuTong and Shin Se Kyung. It's the Down-to-earth Smart girl vibes yet also Pretty (vs just pretty but dumb bimbo) makes her very likable.
Looking foward to this drama!
My only complaint is the title, please change This Sucky Love to something much better! Last drama with something "Sucks" in title tuned out to SUCK majorly indeed! (Love Is For Suckers) No JINXING please just change this dumb title!
If we go by the PD's previous work Mask Girl, this one will dive deep into the darkness of K ent (suicides, saesang fans, expectations to remain single, crazy knetz, greedy inhumane agency CEOs), she might be hesitating to accept because the drama might get controversial/TOO HONEST/offend knetz easily because of how truthfully this PD likes to depict things. Some people (or many) do not like the truth and become hostile.....
Mask Girl was great in its honest deciption of darkness, only sensitive MDListers hated on it because they prefer more cliche tropey fluffy works....
