The FL in Narratage is watching the 1955 movie Floating Clouds at one point.
In Phone of the Wind, a character that the lead meets in her journey tells her about how as a child, he saw the shooting of Keisatsu Nikki in his hometown in Fukushima.
A lot of dramas are mentioned in Futekisetsu ni mo Hodo ga Aru!, among them are Sukeban Deka, Keishichou Sousa Ikkachou, and Kasouken no Onna.
In the drama The Long Season, one of the main characters ripped the poster of Green Fish (a 1997 South Korean movie) off the window.
In Chicken Nugget, a character is watching Be Melodramatic (the two share the same director-screenwriter).
The cram school director in The Midnight Romance in Hagwon has a poster of The Contact in his office.
God, your theory! I actually felt pretty okay about them breaking up, because clearly they had a lot on their plates in that stage of their life. He's still so young and inexperienced, she had a lot of emotional baggage and she needed to heal. To just be together and touch each other's life even for a short while were good enough, I think. But I love, love, love your take on the ending. It's my headcanon now. Thank you for sharing.

I don't know if you're still accepting "submission", but a supporting character in Kashimashi Meshi (played by Watabe Atsuro) is canon ace. The character said himself--I think in ep. 6 or 7--that he doesn't feel sexually attracted to anyone.
If you're still wondering, the romance is very slight, and it's not between Hasegawa Hiroki's and Ayase Haruka's characters. I found it very sweet, though :)
I was surprised when I read Kim Min Jae decided to join. I was under the assumption that he was already big enough…
Based on some BTS from both seasons, I was always under the impression that he really loved working with veteran actors like Han Suk-kyu and Jin Kyung. That might be part of the reason why.
Thank you so much for writing this article and sharing it with us. I really like how it doesn't just list a bunch of popular, influential dramas but provide context to them. I hope people who haven't given Jdramas a chance will be interested in checking them out after reading this :)
