The Real Zombies Are the Korean-Drama Fans

The movie that was supposed to “shake Hollywood”… but only made it sleepy.
It starts as a zombie apocalypse and ends as My Pet Learns to Say ‘Dad.’

The tone swings awkwardly between cheesy comedy and family drama. Zombies make random “aghh aghh” noises, the makeup looks straight out of a kids’ party, and the only thing the movie takes seriously is its moral: the adoptive father who literally trains his zombie daughter with a whistle so she won’t bite.

The story has zero tension, no real humor, and no idea what it wants to be. In the end, everything is solved by the classic Korean miracle: the girl has an antigen, becomes human again, and her father, bitten and dying, magically survives—because love.

Korea has made powerful films about adoptive parenthood —Broker, Miracle in Cell No.7, Hope— but this one is just emotional caricature.
Because in the end, the real zombies aren’t on screen… they’re the Korean-drama fans.

Adulting as a tween looks like:

Yes to Work politics.
Yes to Low-wage + exploitative part-time job.
Yes to Irresponsible and unable to pay bills on time.

Life is hard, but you don’t have to be miserable, periodt. The girls are back, and just like us, they just want to survive adulting.

The words “relatable” and “assassin” shouldn’t exist in the same sentence, but here we are. The duo’s chemistry is chaotic, genuine, and effortlessly funny. They’re vibing like besties with murder licenses.

In a nutshell, it’s giving Gen Z adulting arc.
They are so unserious. Japanese comedy hits different: dry, absurd, and oddly wholesome all at once.

Action scenes are quirky. The girls don’t rely on brute strength. They use their environment, weapons, and quick movements to take down opponents, almost like Jackie Chan. Clever, grounded, and fun to watch.

I appreciated this movie more than the first. The screenplay is smoother and the pacing just clicks.

"Pearls have hidden powers"

With a title like Ninja vs Shark, there was no way I was not going to watch this bloody camp fest. It was more creepy ninjas and horrid townspeople than malevolent sharks, but there were a few key scenes with some really bad CGI sharks and a shark ninja (sorta).

After female pearl divers have repeatedly been found chewed up and handsome male villagers have disappeared, the villagers blame beautiful “cursed” Sayo. Only Shinsuke who loves her stands up for her. In reality, the village chief knows that their problems are caused by the Crimson Devil Clan. He goes to a sword for hire, Kotaro, to have the lone swordsman protect the village for a price. Kotaro saves Sayo from a shark, and she in return saves him from a vengeful female ninja. Lurking in a nearby cave lives the Crimson Devil Clan whose leader has special, gruesome powers given to him by magic and pearls.

This is one of those movies that’s so bad it’s almost good. Almost. Introducing the village savior or at least Sayo’s in the aftermath of him having raped a woman was not a great start. Then brutally murdering the woman’s husband was the rotting cherry on top. After that Kotaro was a ninja pussycat. The villager, Shinsuke, adored Sayo in a second lead clingy sort of manner. Poor “cursed” Sayo is what happens when someone breaks society’s rigid norms and is used as a scapegoat for everything that goes wrong and loses all protection. She was nearly gang raped twice and close to being murdered at least twice more.

The crazy elements of this film made it interesting. The jealous, unhinged female ninja, Kikuma, had magical powers and the ability to command corpses. The leader of the Crimson Devil Clan could change form and had a shark mouth when he needed it. He also had a special chant that called in a shark to sic on the villagers when they ventured into the water. And in the last 15 minutes he summoned the big daddy megalodon that had supernatural abilities. The CGI was abysmal for the shark and the nearly continual spraying of blood. Heads and body parts flew everywhere with people living long enough afterwards to talk. Lol

I would have rated Ninja vs Shark slightly higher if they had refrained from the sexual assaults. No matter how good-looking Kotaro was and how much he sacrificed for Sayo, he was forever tainted by his actions in the opening minutes. Too bad, because this was a ridiculous ride that got sillier by the minute without trying to be funny. There were just too many ick factors that they could have avoided.

6 October 2025
Trigger warnings: Numerous spewing beheadings, arms, legs flying about, chewed up body parts, spewing blood, vomiting, and one post sexual assault and at least two other attempted sexual assaults.

Devils: Inside the Mind of a Killer... and a Detective

Detectives hunting down serial killers can sometimes be seen as an overused premise. However, Devils sets itself a part by adding a body-switching angle to the story. In this case, not only are the viewers rooting for the protagonist to catch the killer, but also concerned about the protagonist being caught "as" the killer. This added tension and a sense or urgency which propel the plot forward at an exhilarating pace.

The film creatively uses eerie trance music and vivid, colorful lighting during the killing scenes which contributes to the already unsettling atmosphere created by the narrative. The two lead actors demonstrate range through their convincing portrayals of two polar opposite characters.

For those who enjoy a solid thriller or crime story with a twist, this film is certainly an entertaining and satisfying option.

Not the best zombie movie

If you are looking for a movie to give background noises that sometimes makes you interested this is a choice. But if you're trying to watch it for real then its not that good, I mean it has a part where it was good but towards the end it gets a little boring. Me personally I wouldn't rewatch this due to the fact that its just not my cup of tea and i also feel like it should have had more parts of intrestingness iykwim.

Incredibly Fun

This was an incredibly fun action/revenge story with realistic and combat.

The FL is on a mission, and it's fun to watch. The overall narrative is pretty simple, and dialogue remains succinct throughout. The movie clearly knows what it is, and it is all the better for it.

One of the highlights of this project was how it remained grounded. There are certainly some spectacular feats performed, but it all feels authentic rather than intentionally over-the-top.

Just a really fun film.

The Assassin and the Mother: Two Worlds of Boksoon

It was refreshing to see a female protagonist in an action film portrayed as a ruthless and nonchalant killer, in a way that usually reserved for male lead characters in this genre.

By juxtaposing the two distinct worlds in Boksoon's life, the viewers are shown a powerful look at her divided life; from seeing her confidence and comfort in life threatening scenarios organized by a cut-throat assassin organization, to her struggles to truly understand and connect with her teenage daughter.

This journey to discover one's true identity added level of complexity to the narrative which elevated the action-packed story and made the overall viewing experience more engaging. This is a great watch for any fans of this genre.

Awesome FL

Azumi is a story that has all the action that you could want while also providing an intriguing political backdrop.

The fight choreography is all really well done. There are some cheesy effects that I'm not sure if they were intended to be stylistic choices or done this way for budget purposes, but they never really diminish the experience.

The titular character is presented to be very strong and talented, and the story stays consistent to this characterization throughout which is something that I appreciated.

Underneath the story's main plot is a story of friendship and comradery. All of the characters were likable in different ways, and it was easy to cheer for them.

The weakest part of the story was the dialogue. Some of the writing was a bit cheesy, but fortunately it never crossed over any lines.

A thoroughly enjoyable film about a strong FL with good action, pacing, and story elements.

i wanted a season 2

first i want to mention that its gore indeed like not light at all ,or at least thats how i felt, this felt more gore than shows like alice in borderland or squid game to me, maybe because of the amount of blood everywhere i had to cover my eyes few times (and because disturbing deaths)
i liked watching the games too they looked fun, but the ending hints at another part and thats why i wanted more
whats nice is that i started this one with light expectations, maybe because it was made in 2014 (as its old) but i ended up surprised i find it good
so:
-interesting and entertaining plot
-liked the survival games
-good looking characters
-unpredictable events
- fast paced, suspence story , it doesnt feel like they are wasting time on not important things
if you can handle and watch gore then i highly recommend

Nice and sweet

Heartwarming movie with a lot of cute moment's.

Main characters are great, even though they had some funny moments that made them look childish at times, they are still mature and resolved their problems without any unnecessary drama.
I loved the coworker, she was such a great friend and the number one supporter at all times.

Overall, it's a really cute movie that definitely deserves more recognition.

A great and novel story

This movie started off as fast paced face smaking action comedy musical, and never let the tempo nor the rhythm drop below 10. After a very long time I felt like a child rewatching the classic disney, yet it was new, it was unique, it was Korean!! Arden Cho, Ejae, Audrey Nuna, May Hong, Ji-Young Yoo, Rei Ami, Anh Hyo Seop, Andrew Choi and Finally the director Maggie Kim. I was so so stunned watching this quality on-screen. This should have been released in theatres world wide!! Its a generational Film.

Gary Sue Popcorn Fantasy

The movie is a diverting enough time for some action fun. It does have a message of team work makes the dream work otherwise you are a monster dooming humanity alongside the bloodthirsty capitalistic oligarchs using your bodies and soul for sport. It's on the nose but sadly much needed in today's world where people have ceded critical thinking to hallucinating chat bots.

Pretty cool

This was actually quite enjoyable, from the world-building to the set design to the dynamic of their little group., but it does become a bit cheesy at certain times both in the plot and in the acting — especially when it comes to the international side actors who are clearly not as skilled as the main cast.

Highly recommend it!

I'm writing this as someone who hasn't read the novel or manhwa. Besides that, I also didn't have high expectations because many people said this wasn't recommended. But honestly, when I watched this movie, I was swept away by the plot and the amazing CG. My friend who had read and knew the storyline was also fascinated by the CG. So overall, I'm satisfied with everything and don't regret watching this. Maybe after this, I'll read the manhwa or novel to delve deeper into the story of this manhwa.

"The crazy one is here!"

Evil Cat was one of those bonkers Hong Kong horror flicks from the 1980s. It never took itself too seriously while also taking the horror elements completely seriously, even when a cat demon was involved.

Master Cheung is dying of liver cancer and residing in an assisted living home. When an excavation crew digs too deeply and ignores the blue glowing light and lightning bolts spewing from a heavy coffin sealed with a talisman, all hell is about to break out. Knowing what has been set loose, Cheung sets out to destroy a cat demon for the final time. His family of Taoists have fought the demon for 8 generations. Now it is his turn. The only problem is that his clock is ticking down and he has no male heir to pass the Mao Shan magic onto. Into his life stumbles Long who is a chauffeur for the rich Fan. When Fan becomes possessed by the cat demon and targets Long, Cheung takes the driver as a disciple to carry on the family tradition.

Lau Kar Leung, one of my favorite old school martial arts directors played the dying Master Cheung. He was also the MAD for this film. Mark Cheng was the erratic Long who waffled back and forth over whether to take on the job of being responsible for killing the demon if Cheung died. Joann Tang played Cheung’s reporter daughter Siu Chuen who thought her dad’s magic was an eccentric hobby. And Wong Jing rounded out the main cast as the lecherous and annoying Inspector "Handsome" Wu.

The movie was actually better than I thought it would be. I feared it would devolve into slapstick comedy. While there were humorous moments, the cat demon ripped its way through human bodies, tearing off arms, heads, and just about anything else it could get its claws or fangs on. Director Dennis Yu must have ordered vats of red KY jelly from Buckets O’ Blood, as the crimson liquid flowed freely and often. The stakes ended up being all too real, even when the special effects made the experience rather campy. The cat demon possessed humans giving them super strength and durability, so if you are looking for a real feline it would be a disappointment.

What I learned from Evil Cat: If you dig up a coffin with blue glowing lights and a talisman attached---DON’T OPEN IT! If you see blue lights in a dark office building---run the other way! If you have the shot to kill a creature that is about to become invincible and immortal, you take it even if the demon is inhabiting a beautiful woman. Do not let the doubting daughter tag along when she doesn’t understand what is at stake. Finally, never a tie a woman, even an annoying prostitute to a pole and leave her out in the middle of nowhere.

If you watch a lot of old kung fu films, this one would be about average. I rate these films on a curve per usual. This was a 7.25 but got bumped down due to the writer (Wong Jing) not following the rules set out and ending the film on the tropiest trope from the 80s and 90s.

5 October 2025

Trigger warnings: Numerous decapitations and dismemberments, hands through chests, lots and lots of blood, sexual scenes though no bits and pieces were showing. Gratuitous underwear shot. A really bad cat outfit.
