An awesome story with an awesome cast!

I felt the two leads had great chemistry and felt very natural. The female lead, Zhang Miao Yi , definitely carried the show and the role suited her very well. I can't imagine a more fitting actress for the role of Xiao Tu. Her comedic timing was just perfect. As for the male lead, Jun, I wish we were able to see more expression from him. I still liked his portrayal though and his expression when he's awkward is hilarious. I really would like to see Zhang Miao Yi and Jun in another drama.

Xiao Tu and Ling Chao aren’t related, but they grew up together. Both of their parents are each other’s godparents. Ling Chao has always been very smart and studious, while Xiao Tu is carefree and overly dramatic. I loved how oblivious and dense Xiao Tu is. She often sees things at face value, while Ling Chao is more observant and constantly protects her from the shadows. No matter what, Xiao Tu always somehow finds a way to drag Ling Chao into one of her shenanigans. For example, there’s a scene where they try to take Xiao Tu’s friend’s cellphone back from a teacher, only to get caught. Ling Chao manages to get away, while Xiao Tu gets into trouble. Xiao Tu accuses him of being disloyal. Later in the episode, we find out that Ling Chao went back to retrieve the phone anyway. Although he succeeds, he gets into trouble for lying to the teacher and saying the phone was his, which results in him having to write a two page essay. We see a lot more of Ling Chao’s inner feelings in the exclusive epilogue.

I actually enjoyed the drama more when they were in high school, perhaps because of the buildup of Ling Chao’s feelings. We see that Ling Chao develops feelings for Xiao Tu quite early on, and I liked how he never openly expresses them, instead showing his affection through subtle actions. Ling Chao’s mother bought them matching rabbit themed clothing. Xiao Tu received an undergarment, while Ling Chao had a shirt with a pom pom on the back. Xiao Tu wanted them to wear the matching items together, but Ling Chao refused, which upset her. The next day at school, Xiao Tu gets hit on the head by a basketball, and the boy who threw it laughs. To defend her, Ling Chao agrees to play basketball, which reveals that he is wearing the rabbit shirt. Ling Chao often does things like this, and I found it very endearing. Another sweet detail is that Xiao Tu dislikes carrots, so whenever there are dishes with carrots, she picks them out and gives them to Ling Chao, and he eats them without complaint. The second half of the drama is when they're in college and basically is them navigating their relationship, it was also enjoyable as well.

The reason why Ling Chao fell in love with Xiao Tu is because he does not need to perform or protect an image. He can exist quietly, even invisibly, and still feel seen by Xiao Tu. Ling Chao is surrounded by admiration. At school, his intelligence, looks, and reputation as a model student place him on a pedestal. Xiao Tu, however, has known him long before any of that mattered. To her, he is just Ling Chao, the person who gets dragged into her schemes, eats the carrots she does not like, and silently cleans up after her messes. When she is upset, happy, or frustrated, she expresses it openly and without pretense. This transparency is what makes her heart feel pure. Her obliviousness also plays an important role. Xiao Tu does not overanalyze Ling Chao’s actions or search for deeper meanings behind his words. She accepts what is in front of her.

Xu Ling Long is someone who has had a crush on Ling Chao since they were kids and is very upfront about her feelings for him. She often finds reasons to get close to him, only to get shot down by Ling Chao. Despite being a love rival, I couldn’t hate her. She was adorable and funny, and she was never malicious, although she would be passive aggressive toward Xiao Tu, it was never as negative as you would think. She is one of the very few love rivals you actually end up liking. Although she was mainly there for comedic purposes, she was lovely.

Yin Xin Lan is Ling Chao’s classmate and also has a crush on him. Although she appears soft spoken and nice, she isn’t, as she makes offhanded remarks about Xiao Tu and has no issue using others to get close to Ling Chao. I think Ling Chao saw right through Yin Xin Lan from the start, which is why he was very blunt with her. In contrast, he was much softer when turning down Xu Ling Long’s advances.

One unfortunate thing is that if you don't understand or speak Chinese, you miss out on some funny moments. Several times, Xiao Tu speaks to Ling Chao using old fashioned terms, which sounds much funnier in Chinese and subtitles doesn't do it justice

I have watched this drama a few times already, starting a few years ago. This is one of those lighthearted dramas you can always rewatch, and it gives you the same feelings as the first time. There are no unnecessary third parties, as the leads’ relationship is solid, and there is no miscommunication that lasts longer than an episode. The entire cast was extremely perfect. Both leads had awesome friends as well. I really liked the friends Ling Chao made in college. They were hilarious and often got into all kinds of shenanigans. I think one of the highlights for me would Xiao Tu's relationship with her dad. Their chemistry together was amazing and I knew if I saw them together on screen, I would get a great laugh. Xiao Tu's dad was extremely funny as well, but I loved both their families dynamic with one another. It was very nice to see two kids being raised in a happy and loving home.

Difficult to Assess

I watch this because of Wen Moyan.

FL isn't weak; she's very strong and always saves herself without any idiotic behavior except when its related to her mother.
FL keeps saying she wants to rebel against her mother, but all she gets done with is being choked, beaten, and slapped by her mother. She seems very rebellious, but she's constantly giving in, which is incredibly frustrating to watch. ML is good to the FL but not a burden to her; there's no exaggerated power; it's a very normal drama with many kissing scenes (even there is no chemistry between Wang Hao Xiang and Wen Moyan).

The cons is FL mother yeah she is manipulative and treat her children differently. SML is quite inconsistent he didn't like FL and cheated and suddenly want to marry FL out of blue. The romance between the leads are not too useful in here.

Recommended if you have masochist tendencies.

Nothing Life-Changing, Still a Decent Watch !

First of all, let me make this **easy** and clear: this is **not** the kind of drama that will change your life, heal your soul, or make you rethink existence. Easy. Calm down.
But at the same time—it’s **not bad either**. Easy watch, easy vibe, easy entertainment.

Now about the story… the writer definitely chose the **easy route**. I mean, how the hell do you fall in love by drinking a **glass of water**? 😭 Easy love? Instant romance? One sip and BOOM—feelings unlocked? Okay, I get it, it’s fantasy, but still… that was *too easy* to digest, even for fantasy standards.

The acting had some **easy flaws** here and there. Their chemistry could’ve been **a little more spicy**, not this *easy-going simmer*. It felt like a slow burn, but not the delicious slow burn—more like the **easy microwave kind**.

BUT—and here comes the easy plot twist—I still **enjoyed it**. Despite the gaps, despite the “easy explanation for everything,” the drama somehow kept giving me **interesting vibes**. The cast was **easy on the eyes**, the rituals were **easy to appreciate**, and some plots were actually **addictive enough** to keep me watching till the end without skipping.

So overall?
It was **easy fun**, easy entertainment, easy watch.
Not groundbreaking. Not unforgettable.
But if you want something **easy, chill, and mildly addictive**, then yeah—**you can easily give it a try** 😉 A Tiny Poem for This Drama

One glass of water, love so easy,
Fantasy logic feeling cheesy.
Not life-changing, not too deep,
But somehow fun enough to keep.
Flawed, slow, odd—but vibes were nice,
An easy watch, I won’t think twice.

Surprisingly sweet drama without angst

I watch this because of Peng Yao. Surprisingly the chemistry between Peng Yao and Cao Tian Kai are good to see even better than few of Cao Tian Kai previous FL.

This is the fastest record of Cao Tian Kai showing his abs less than 3 minutes in beginning of the drama and he just using blazer to flaunt his body (I am not complaining).

I forgot the other version (perhaps Yuyin-Yao Guanyu one but i don't really fond of that drama). The plot is rich, the pacing is tight and smooth, the logic and details are reasonable, and it's pure sweetness throughout.

ML is a cunning wolf, endlessly doting and flirting, while the FL is a cunning little rabbit, weak but intelligent, and always tries to find ways to save herself instead of waiting for the ML. There are almost no misunderstandings between them throughout the series; they're both talkative, and later, when they're manipulated by the villain, things might drag but not too long unlike other dramas.

The only drawback might be that the ML's uncontrollable emotions are quite obvious, while the FL's emotional moments lack subtlety. However, its still worth to watch.

Decent drama with less torture.

The overall storyline is relatively smooth and well-rounded. The acting of the ML and FL, plus the supporting cast, is quite good; I finally got to watch Bai Fang Wen drama without being annoyed and he is not using his finger to kiss. (most of his earliest drama are being dropped for my watchlist). I am not fond of Yu Yin acting but she is slowly make a progression in this drama and its better than her in Good Girl. This version is not torturous compared to Cheng Cheng-Huang Yunyung.

Bai Fang Wen's portrayal of ML in this drama is so captivating; he's the kind of actor who deserves applause even for his affected mannerisms.

I don't like the styling in this drama Yu Yin looks old on her dress and her make up didn't elevated her beauty.

Worth to watch.

Reverse Drama that you want to root for Male Lead

I watch this because of Chai Hui Xin and I have watch few of Wen Yuan minidrama and i am not against nor enjoy it. Zhu Zhe Ren is my favorite SML for his acting. For romantic scene, it was few scene and i feel they trimmed the intimate part in this drama.

Plot is about FL was abandoned by her family for many years. To save her ill mother, she agreed to her father's request and held a business marriage with the second young master of the Tan family. However, on the wedding day, her fiancé suddenly died in an accident, forcing their marriage to be abruptly ended before it even began. She seeks help from ML who was her fiancé elder brother.

Personally i don't like FL attitude in this drama she is the one who needs help but she is the one who was ingrateful. ML was too lenient and stupid. He didn't tell anything and just silent when he knows the actual truth. SML was the smartest among the leads even he got his deserve ending but it feels unjustified for FL.

Hope they can collaborate with elevated plot, it was waste for Chai Hui Xin, Wen Yu, and Zhu Zhe Ren acting skill.

Only for fans.

Kim Ji Woong blowing his back out in Braille

How did they even get freaky if he can’t see? Genuine question. Uh, anyway, this show was okay, and the ending was mid but more of a lesson learned kind of thing. Yeah, I would give it a 7.5 (8.06) out of 10. Now I am going to say what I liked, what I didn’t, and then an episode overview.

Kim Ji Woong might be one of the SEXIEST MEN TO EVER WALK THE PLANET. He is such a joy to look at and such an acquired beauty. Both of them are good actors, and they have decent chemistry for what this is. The show is OKAY, I will give them that. Like, it's not bad, but it's also not the best thing I have ever seen. I think the plot is interesting, but it did fall short in some parts. Uh, yeah, I don't know, something about this show was addicting. I liked the brother, and I don't know why. The guy that Kim Ji Woong killed first, I liked that point line, that was fun. I think the setup was good. Uh, yeah, that is it.

What the fuck does dispiate mean? Like we just turn to fucking ash, like what the hell? That whole plot was bullshit. Also, WE DO NOT KNOW HOW TO WRITE ROMANCE PLOTS AND ROMANCE BUILDING. Like we were doing well for a bit, and then it went all the way downhill. Irrelevant ass side character, every last one of them, besides the brother, shut your dumb ass up, you guys are making me mad. The mom, or whatever the lady was, suck up everything, just made the plot go further backwards. INTRODUCED THAT GUY AND THEN JUST CHOKED HIM OUT AND KILLED HIM. BITCH WHO EVEN WAS THAT? SHUT UPPPPP. Yeah, also the plot kind fell off at the end, and I don't hate the ending, I think it is kind of mid, but mid leaning more towards bad. I am fine with him dying at the end, but I wish they had done that a little better. Like, oh no, he went up to the rooftop and then just fucking disintegrated. I feel like we could have written that out better. AND FINALLY, the whole thing with him going blind. He was blind the entire show, but the writers lowkey forgot about that because he was doing way too much considering he can't see lmao. Only at the end was it relevant, and even then, he still got to the top of the roof unscathed, but he can't pick up a stupid fucking ring. Uh, that's it.

My overview time and the reviews are terrible because I was watching this in class. "I AM HERE FOR Kim Ji Woong. YOU ARE HERE FOR Kim Ji Woong. WE ARE ALL HERE FOR Kim Ji Woong. I CAN EXCUSE THE BAD PLOT FOR Kim Ji Woong. Yeah, good setup." "THE BLUE EYES ARE SO FUNNY. If it came out that vampires are real, Kim Ji Woong and Ricky would be at the top of my list. Slow romance building with mal intent, good, good. I am sobbing, the eyes are cock blocking my shit." "Actual lore, but I need more context. They both have sexy eyes. He likes the idea of what he will become by liking him, but actually him." "He obviously regrets what he did, so why is he doing it again?" "Human boy jumping the gun and the fact that he knows he is a vampire and still falling for him is human stupidity." "Who even is this random ass guy? I am lowkey confused, and the romance building is now out of the window. Uh okay. We have a plot, though, which is nice." "The show is low-key, really interesting, and I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because the love of my life is in here and everything is interesting when he’s on screen." "Also, we need a little bit more romance building. In this case, there’s no way we just kiss." "I have genuinely no feelings about this episode, like what is this like a lesson of life that everything is temporary, or if you lose Kim Ji Woong, you just start fucking crying and hallucinating, like what is the moral here? I’m so lost. Also, how did they get freaked out if he’s blind? Did he look fucking blew his back out in braile? I’m so confused."

Uh, a skippable show, but if you want to see THE SEXY KIM JI WOONG, DEFINITELY WATCH IT. Okay bye!

When concubines unite, no emperor can stand.

A great drama!

All the characters are well-developed, with multiple motivations and not stuck in fixed hero or villain roles.

The story has a good flow and a great ending (rare in this type of drama). The only part that slowed down was when FL was exiled from the Forbidden City, but apart from that, 10/10.

K-Drama was so good I felt compelled to write a review

For the sake of my own mental health, I'm never re-watching this show. It's got taboo written all over it, just like moon lovers. The story starts with a beautiful young woman who seduces the men in the village, who's prideful, spoiled, and yet it felt great to see her develop into such a resilient levelheaded woman right before our eyes. It stuck with me, and I enjoyed every aspect of her character.
Now, I've noticed on the internet many people were blaming her for not leaving with Jang Hyeon at the end. Have we watched the same show? She undoubtedly had feelings for him but she didn't feel the stability and security she had longed for in a man which was addressed early on in the drama.
Jang Hyeon is flamboyant, has a bad reputation of being a misogamist, and is bouncing everywhere and nowhere all at once. Only us, the audience, are aware of the intensity of his feelings for Gil Chae thus we can't fault her for no trusting in him and choosing to stay with her family instead. She had a steady income and was rebuilding her family from the verge of bankruptcy while shouldering the responsibility of caring for her mentally unwell father. Choosing to stay with them not only shows how far she had come as a character, but also that Jang Hyeon doesn't understand her as much as he had claimed to.
Now, now, don't get me wrong. That man had me giggling and running laps around the house but his love for her was all consuming and at the end, it was borderline selfish. For Gil Chae, he was the only variable in her life while everything else was a constant. It's the reason why she held onto Yeon Jun for so long despite not loving him romantically.
I don't remember the last time I yapped a lot about a K-drama but it's phenomenal. I'm excited to see where their story would head next. (and clutching my pearls in fear.)
P.S the show isn't for the faint hearted, I was subjected to it as a sacrificial lamb by mother dearest to test the angst level. It left me with crippling dread and depression, don't say you weren't warned.

Outstanding Chinese crime-suspense drama

The Truth Within is its intelligent storytelling and intricate mystery structure. A smart, gripping mystery series that blends emotional nuance with sharp crime storytelling. Each case is crafted with care, and the series consistently balances suspense with logical deduction, rewarding viewers who enjoy piecing together clues alongside the characters rather than being spoon-fed dramatic twists. Highly recommended for fans of suspense and procedural dramas.

gmmtv's best show of all time and its not even close

okay so i just want to say that it usually takes me 2-3 weeks to finish thai shows bc i have the attention span of a five year old, and i also have lectures + i am an athlete. im telling you this so that you will understand just how hooked i had to be on this show because i finished it in less than two days. TWO FUCKING DAYS. no skips, no 2x speed, nothing. i was so addicted to this show that i genuinely could not stop watching it. this show has 3 (or maybe 4 i can't really tell if pertar were like official) main couples and i had a great time with ALL of them. while all the plots definitely relate, they aren't fully intertwined the whole time, so i'll break this up into paragraphs for each couple.

1. kim + mon (chokunaston) my babies
GUYS KIM AND MON WERE SO CUTE LIKE I WANTED TO CRY THE WHOLE TIME THEY WERE ON SCREEN THEY WERE SO SWEET IT MADE MY STOMACH HURT ADFJLAKLSDFSDKFJ ADF I LOVE THEM SO MUCH MY BABEIS. okay but seriously, kim and mon were by FAR my absolute favorite couple in the show, and honestly, they're probably my favorite bl couple of all time. this is chokunaston's first show together and they killed it SO hard like WOAH. these two have so much potential you already know im hype as hell for their upcoming show. kim is so freaking cute. greenest of green flags he is so obsessed with mon its hilarious. mon is probably my fav bl character ever he is so me. together, kim and mon are so sweet. they had such a cute confession with the giraffe doll like i squealed like a 12 year old girl at that scene and im not even ashamed because that is the only appropriate response to that. kim also delivered one of my favorite lines ever that i quote daily "he reads shakespeare, i read doremon" that is SO funny to me. i really appreciated that kim and mon got together within like three episodes instead of dragging it on for ten episodes. sometimes i lose interest in characters once they get together but it was the exact opposite with these two they were just so cute together i never got bored of them. i need a bf as obsessed with me as kim is with mon. that one scene where mon is trying to study and kim is just staring at his face for an hour genuinely makes me laugh every single time i rewatch it, and you already KNOW that i have rewatched this show at least ten times. i also really did enjoy the dynamic between kim and mon's mom. usually parents in bls kinda piss me off, but the actress who played mon's mom was really good, and she made the character make a lot of sense. i think it was really cute watching kim do literally anything to win over mon's mom because he was just SO in love. i hate red/black flags in bls and kim + mon were SO far from that. they were so soft and so fluffy. the rest of the show was soft and fluffy too, but these two REALLY delivered the fluff. this show made me fall in love with chokunaston, and i am SO excited to see their futures. gmmtv please please PLEASE give them a character i would spend thousands like i need a chokunaston doll to be friends with my permpoon!!!

2. kit + shane (lukemick)
kit and shane started off good but ended AMAZING. i'll be honest, i was REALLY suspicious about how these two would work together. i've known about mick for a while and i didn't think that he was really made for bl. while i didn't know a lot about luke before watching this, i knew enough to the point where i was a bit nervous. in my opinion, these two started off a little rocky. i mean, its blatantly obvious that these two are like super mega straight, which isn't like an ISSUE, but it was kinda glaring. however, as the show went on, you could tell they were getting more used to playing their roles. i think that kit and shane got cute after shane stopped being all uptight so like around episode 5-6. honestly, i just loved kit as a person, so i didn't really care about shane until they got together. i will say i was genuinely shocked when they kissed in episode TWO. like woah. but honestly, these two were so sweet. i would say that even though mdl lists kim and mon as main characters as well as kit and shane, kit and shane were the MAIN main characters. i will say i felt for shane's struggles in trying to figure out what he wanted to do in college because trust me buddy, we've all been there. towards the end when all the stress about college was happening, i really loved the connection between kit and shane. it really did feel real, they were really sweet together, and the way they comforted each other was so AWWWW. also, shane and his cat were so cute like ugh so freaking adorable. i loved that cat (sorry im blanking on its name idk why) but that cat was literally kit and shane's child i swear. all in all, lukemick did a very good job with this show. while i was a little nervous about how they woud do with their parts in the beginning, they really got it together and delivered phenomenal performances towards the middle/end. while kit and shane aren't quite as perfect as kim and mon were, they were still so fun to watch.

3. tan + nat (podpapang) aka the teachers
okay so they were cute! honestly, i dont think i have that much to say about these two. they were cute! i enjoyed their scenes. were they my least favorite couple in the show? like yeah, but i still love them. i thought their connection seemed really genuine and sweet. they were so wholesome, but then again, the whole show was. the actors did a great job and thats all that really matters.

4. per + tar (kenpaul)
so like im gonna be honest when i say i was so confused as to what these two were while watching the show, but i THINK they were something. like they kissed yes but they never officially got together (at least from what i remember) so like.. i know kenpaul are paired together but idk yall.. per and tar were SO CUTE tho, i really loved tar paul is such a cutie pie. unironically paul is my favorite person like ever he is so cute and so sweet off camera and on camera he fit the role of tar so well UGH hes so cute it makes me mad. everytime tar came on screen i felt violent because i just wanted to give him the biggest hug ever cuteness aggression is real and my proof is the existence of paul and his portrayal of tar. i wish these two got more screentime because they were so cute and funny, especially at the beach when they got lost like BRUH i love them so much. honestly, these two need their own show because i would eat that shit UP i love kenpaul i love paul my baby like how is he so cute my baby my baby you're my baby say it to me.

conclusion time!!! so to wrap this up, i think i should talk about the overarching plot and all that. i guess i just HAVE to. so lets be real here, this show's plot is very simple. nothing crazy is happening, its just a cute fluffy high school love story between the two main couples that are students and also one about teachers (and a mini one thats also students). there wasn't a lot of unnecessary drama which i really appreciated. like, all disagreements made a lot of sense and nothing felt forced. yes, kim could be a little dramatic sometimes which would cause issues with mon for like 20 minutes, but he's so cute that he can get away with it like yall i do NOT play about kim and mon. honestly, one thing i really loved about this show was just how colorful and vibrant it was. i really liked how the characters didn't have uniforms at their school, and how nothing ever looked dull. all the color is a welcome change from other high school set gmmtv shows (my school president comes to mind). overall, this show is PHENOMENAL. it is up there for my favorite bls of all time, and it is most definitely my favorite thai bl. this is my comfort show, i rewatch it whenever im sad because kim and mon bring me so much serotonin its unhealthy. i wish my high school experience was like this bruh WHY DIDNT I HAVE A KIM UGH. anyways, to officially conclude: WATCH THE SHOW IF YOU HAVENT. it is such a good time, i was smiling and giggling the ENTIRE TIME and i rewatch it at least once a week. boys in love altered my brain chemistry, and i am so excited to see these actor pairings moving forward because these boys have SO MUCH potential!!!

Flashy catchy bombastic story but mostly without meaning

I watched ep 1-7, 14 of Judge from hell and it was mostly a waste of time, I had to fast forward through most of it, it is not a masterpiece drama in my opinion. It is a little too ... cheesy and gory. It lacks good dialogues. It is flashy catchy stuff but not so ... meaningful. It raises some good questions but the way is too bombastic and sensationalistic. Yeah, FL and ML nailed their roles, but still, ML role does not show him off as well. The drama is made for FL to have fun acting LOL

When I watch something, I ask myself: what am I learning?
and for this drama, I cannot say that I learned anything

It is "fun story" drama without much if any meaning

When Clichés Take Over a Good Drama

I was actually hesitant to watch this drama at first, but since I kept seeing it on my newsfeed and even got recommendations from my family—mainly because of the chemistry between the leads—I eventually decided to give it a try. Jang Ki-yong and Ahn Eun-jin are both incredibly talented actors, and knowing how well they can act, I expected the drama to be good.

The first few episodes were promising and made me want to keep watching, almost like I could finish it in one sitting. However, after around episode 7 or 8, the story started to go downhill for me. The plot became filled with clichés, especially the repetitive push-and-pull dynamic between the leads—where one pursues the other, then stops, and suddenly the roles reverse. This cycle took up about 85% of the series, which made it feel predictable and honestly a bit mid. While the acting was undeniably good, the writing wasn’t. The storyline felt poorly developed, and it became one of those dramas where you could already guess what would happen next. The actors deserved a much better script.

One of my biggest disappointments was the unnecessary “plot twist” involving Jang Ki-yong’s character losing his memory after an accident. It felt forced and overused, like something straight out of a generic drama trope list. The series honestly could’ve ended at 12 episodes instead of stretching it out with two more just to prolong the story. Because of this, I found myself skipping a lot of scenes just to get through it. That said, there were still moments that gave me butterflies—mostly because of how handsome Jang Ki-yong is, his heart-melting smile, and how well he pulled off the chaebol vibe. Still, I couldn’t fully enjoy it because the comedic aspects of his character didn’t feel like the best fit for him, despite his solid performance.

As for Ahn Eun-jin, we all know how talented she is, but this drama didn’t give her the chance to show her full potential. Her character felt dull and underwritten, which wasn’t her fault at all—it was clearly an issue with the storyline.

Overall, the drama had a good concept and a lot of potential, including possible stronger endings. Unfortunately, it felt like the writers lost direction and chose the most unnecessary and disappointing route with the script and conclusion.

How long someone can delay a “yes” that already exists within them?

Countdown to Yes begins like many great friends-to-lovers stories: with a lingering glance, a silence heavy with meaning, and that almost tangible feeling that something is already there, even if no one dares to name it. From the very first episode, the series leans less on big events and more on atmosphere. Its clean cinematography, delicate use of lighting, and restrained direction create an intimate space that invites the viewer to simply watch, almost like flipping through a photo album. It’s a promising start, hinting at a careful and emotionally grounded journey.

The show’s greatest strength lies in this sense of intimacy. Minato and Wataru work well as a pair because they embody opposite sides of the same feeling. On one side, there is the clarity and courage of someone who loves openly; on the other, the paralyzing fear of someone who understands their emotions but chooses denial to avoid risking everything. This dynamic carries much of the narrative, creating a steady tension that, at its best, feels deeply human. There is something very recognizable in this emotional push and pull, in a love that already exists but hasn’t yet found the space to fully emerge.

However, what begins as delicacy soon starts to drift into repetition. The contemplative pacing, often effective in JBLs, becomes a drawback here. The story keeps revisiting the same conflicts, frequently through flashbacks that add little to what has already been established. Instead of deepening the narrative, these moments dilute its emotional impact, making it feel as though the story is moving in circles. The promised slow burn loses momentum when progress becomes almost imperceptible across entire stretches of the series.

This issue becomes even more apparent in Wataru’s character arc. His hesitation is understandable and even well grounded, since the fear of losing such an important friendship is a strong dramatic foundation, but the constant repetition of “we’re just friends” grows tiring. At a certain point, the conflict stops feeling complex and starts feeling frustrating. Still, there is value in how the series tries to humanize this indecision, showing that emotional growth is rarely linear or quick. The discomfort the audience feels is, in part, a reflection of that realism.

Minato, in turn, carries the story with a patience that borders on painful. His persistence isn’t idealized; it comes with exhaustion, doubt, and moments where he is clearly hurt. This helps the narrative avoid falling into easy clichés. At the same time, some of the criticism toward the series centers on the character’s more restrained, sometimes stiff portrayal, which can make it harder to connect in scenes that call for stronger emotional expression. The couple’s chemistry, while present in quieter moments, doesn’t always fully support the emotional weight the story aims for.

Even so, it would be unfair to overlook what Countdown to Yes does right: the small moments. The series shines when it lets go of the need to “move forward” and simply observes its characters being together, through absent-minded hand-holding, casual conversations about the future, and quiet gestures that say more than any confession. There is a genuine beauty in this focus on the everyday, reinforced by the recurring use of photography as a metaphor. Here, loving someone means learning to truly see them, with attention and care.

The final episode, in particular, ties everything together with a quiet kind of grace. It doesn’t rely on dramatic twists, but on emotional payoff. After so much hesitation and back-and-forth, the long-awaited “yes” lands with a softness that feels earned. It’s a gentle, beautiful conclusion that reframes the entire journey, making the wait feel, at least in part, worthwhile. Still, it’s hard not to wonder how much stronger the series could have been with a tighter structure. With eight episodes instead of eleven, much of the repetition could have been trimmed, allowing the story to maintain its emotional impact without losing momentum.

In the end, Countdown to Yes is a divisive experience. For some, it will feel slow, overly repetitive, and too emotionally restrained. For others, that same softness, almost stubborn in its quietness, is exactly what makes it special. Rather than telling the story of how love begins, the series is more interested in something subtler: how long someone can delay a “yes” that already exists within them. And even if that journey feels too drawn out at times, there is something sincere, and even beautiful, in the waiting.

A two speed drama that is . . Ok

Oh woe is me. This is my third attempt at writing this review. I normally have a good idea about what to write before I start. In this case, I just can't seem to nail this down. To be fair, this show is not bad. It has its moments. I just sense this disturbance in the Force.

As a whole, the show is watchable and relatively angst lite. The romance took forever to develop though. It also has a lot of business and chaebol style shenanigans which are repetitive, but lack depth.

If I'm honest, the chemistry of our leads is only lukewarm for the longest time. It can test your patience. It finally picks up in the last few eps. A classic case of From Zero to Hero. ;)

I do find it odd that the writer seems to swim against the tide. At one stage, the FL was frantically searching for the ML because she thought he was in an accident. The show cuts to her running towards him in slow-mo as soon as she spots him. In most romance dramas, this would be the cue for a heartfelt embrace and maybe even a kiss to seal the deal. In this case, she drops anchor, pulled up sharply a few feet away. Once she ascertains he is ok, she turns and marches away. What?

This happened several times. The setup is there, yet the payoff is not. Sure, our leads are novice in love, but the whole point is to give in to your feelings. C'est l'amour! This feels stilted and drags out their romantic journey.

As a result, the show pads out the runtime with fillers of all kind. Mostly about developments in the photovoltaics industry and scheming rich families.

While business subplots are nothing new in c-dramas, this feels a little pedestrian. Solar energy generation is already a mass consumer product by the early 2010's. China is a major player. They tried to dress it up, but it is a tough ask.

Then we have the Chinese "chaebols". There are excessive displays of wealth and people behaving badly just because they can. I really don't know how comfortable this sits with the recent Common Prosperity drive. Maybe they are going for historical accuracy . .

On the flip side, our leads do look good together. Their young lovers act is quite cute. Their immediate family are supportive and nice. Shame about their extended family. Most of them are spoil brats or relatives fighting dirty in the name of money and power.

Another annoyance for me is the focus on the SML. The FL has a crush on him in college, but he rejected her at first. He has been conflicted ever since. Just when the FL decide to let go and find true love with the ML, he made his move.

Such trope is a reliable source of angst if handled well. Our writers decided to drag this out. The SML keeps popping up and interrupt the show's qi. I can accept this if the acting is good. Unfortunately, the young actor leaves me cold. He is a walking wet blanket. He looks glum and depressed most of the time. He sucks the life out of most scenes. There is no growth in his character. We don't share his pain. Yet we still suffer.

Speaking of acting abilities, the FL is in her element. It is hardly a breakout role though. On the other hand, the ML is handsome, but lacks depth in his acting. They tried to paint him as a tortured soul. What we got is more like a textbook good guy. He tries.

Maybe it is the whole "sunshine" theme, but many scenes appear to be over exposed and has an yellow/orange cast. Our lead literally glows, night and day. It is a questionable aesthetic choice in my book.

One final thought, the flag waving is a bit egregious. The whole PV industry's growth and Brain-to-Computer interface are jingoistic. Sometimes it felt like I'm watching a tourism promo or being sold shares in some private/government enterprise. I'm sure it will appeal to mainland audience. Maybe less so for international viewers.

The writers delivered the goods in the end. If anything, it was sugar overload. You could bottle the last 6 eps and call it a day. If I ever rewatch this series, it would be those 6 eps.

In the end, this drama is decent. I'm sure they will do well by the normal matrix. It just doesn't quite scratch the itch for me. We are presented with a draggy A-plot with extra fillers. The fan service is sweet, but took forever to materialise. It is a box of chocolates . . just not quite a top shelve one. Peace.
