I was trying to work out why I dropped it years back and you've JUST reminded me. It was terrible. Like it was…
Yes, it was disgusting. Mocking the dreads, the flies special effect, in fact that whole rasta thing was problematic. But the fact that they portrayed him as this sleazy erotica illustrator and how he's peeping at people, also going into the shop without his shoes on and the ML insinuating he is primitive and unlike "normal people". Or the dirty looks from other characters... Honestly, it made me sick.
The first episode really impressed me but after a while the drama gets draggy and slow and the things that made the drama unique and interesting disappear in favour of a slow plot and cliches. The way this drama normalises domestic abuse is kind of gross. However the worst aspect of this has to be the atrocious racism. The Dal Shik character made me so angry that I skipped all of his scenes. I've seen racism in Asian dramas before but never as bad or blatant as this. It was really sickening.
Yes very much, even Edward Zang (Helian) is also in it... also waiting for Night Wanderer
By the way, I also loved the other dramas you mentioned. Oh and Ashes of Love is also great. Same kind of thing, starts super light and innocent... The first part of Ashes of Love is silly and sweet, but THEN.... Before you know it, you're on an emotional rollercoaster that will take you to all the highs and lows...

Hmm... 10MOPB and Rise of the Phoenixes are the first C dramas I ever watched and made me fall in love with C dramas... Xianxias often start very light and then get more and more intense. I'm not sure what you heard about 10MOPB that put you off but I think it's kind of essential watching to get into the Xianxia genre in my opinion! 😄
I recommend: 10MOPB Love&Destiny Ancient Love Poetry Eternal Love of Dream
Personally I don't mind the ending, since the show as a whole was great. It's the first one I watched that depicts…
I liked this drama but I can't agree with you regarding the "realistic portrait" of women's circumstances in historical China because there is nothing realistic about this FL... This drama is definitely more "modernised history" imo (I call it Pop History lol), the FL is the ultimate C drama modern-style, cutesy baby voiced "proto-Feminist" heroine to whom none of the supposed rules apply...
For more a more authentic historical drama with heroines who break the mould but within more realistic bounds for their times and circumstances: "Marvelous Women" "The Story of Minglan"
Even these two dramas overfavour their FLs at times for the sake of a good drama, but nothing compared to pop-historical dramas like this one...! Nevertheless I enjoyed it, although I stopped at episode 28 because I felt the last few episodes would ruin my impression of an overall enjoyable drama.
Totally agree... It's fantastic, almost flawless. I can only think of one criticism and that is the look of the…
Married? No, not in this season... There is slight romance in the first 3 parts of Arthdal, but romance isn't the main focus, although there is a degree of romantic drive in the main characters.
As you can see from the first few episodes, Eunseom and Tanya have a childhood sweetheart thing going on, but then things get complicated when they are separated. You could say this first season (part 1, 2 and 3) feels a bit like an origin story. The plot splits them up and makes things complicated so they can grow as characters, but they are longing for each other. Season 2 will be very interesting as it brings them back together.

Have you watched Eternal Love? (I.e. 10 Miles of Peach Blossom NOT "The Eternal Love" which is a different drama altogether.... Not confusing at all!) I think many people started their love affair with the Xianxia genre with that drama....
I agree with your entire comment chain here. I was enjoying it through the first 8-10 episodes, but it's like…
I've never dropped a drama so near the end, I got to around episode 14 and thought, Nooo mooorrreee....! I had already been so patient for several episodes and getting more and more frustrated by the repetitive storyline.
They should have done some kind of third story arc like you said, a new villain. Imugi got boring.

I see...! Yes, in the last few years international interest in Asian dramas has increased significantly and the subbing is much better and quicker! A few years ago, the subs were often unintelligible and many dramas didn't have subs or just partial ones.
I'll have to give it a watch and see if it's any good. Is it on YouTube or somewhere like that?
